Over time, scientists and computer engineers looked for ways that computers could do tasks that would normally be done by pen and paper. Over time, the world wide web (internet access) and wireless communication took charge in the technological age. Devices such as cell phones, laptops, tablets, and smart phones were invented over the course of time to not only help, but take over some of these tasks that were once done by humans.

We have the convenience of all different types data input and output devices and the means to store and make available at lightning fast speeds. Computers are everywhere today. It would be impossible to go your entire life without using a computer. Cars, ATMs, and TVs we use everyday, and all contain computers. It is for this reason that computers and their software have to become more intelligent to make our lives easier and computers more accessible. It just is.” She goes on to say, “I’m unhappy when it doesn’t work … when my cellphone battery’s dead and when the Internet is not working,”(staff, par. 7-9). Many adolescents are heavily impacted by the availability and advancements of technology. How is technology impacting the happiness levels of youth? To understand the concept of technology affecting human emotions we must first clarify the meaning of happiness.

In the last 30 years, we have seen a major transformation in the world of technology. The vast globalization prompted by the ever-changing technology industry has allowed our society to progress in ways previous generations could have never dreamed of. Three ways technology has improved conditions of our society is with the increasing employment of dashboard cameras/body cameras, data encryptions/fingerprints, and social media. Today, with our modern technology, people use computers called laptops and even other handheld devices such as IPads and even a cell phone. Remember the days of the Old West? The women walked around with their parasols or rode in a horse drawn carriage and the men rode fast and furious on their horses. Everything you needed was right there in town: the saloon, the general store, and the barber. When one needed to get somewhere, they would walk. If they needed to travel far, there were steam-powered locomotives. As towns and cities grew larger, it was not so convenient to walk everywhere. There was a need for a machine that could get us around to where we had to go. Technology was becoming a bigger part of the times and the machine we now know today as the automobile was invented.
