Before terrorism can be discussed in this paper, it must first be explained. Terrorism is the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims. In other words, terrorism is the reason for such events like 9/11. You may think to yourself, why would the events of 9/11 happen in the first place? Well the answer may be a little tricky. First, the 9/11 attacks were a series of four coordinated attacks by the Islamic group Al-Qaeda on the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The attacks involved suicide attacks used to target symbolic United States landmarks. Four airplanes, were hijacked by 19 Al-Qaeda members to be flown into buildings. Two of the planes were crashed into the North and South towers of the World Trade Center in New York City.
Within 1 hour and 42 minutes, both towers collapsed, with debris and the resulting fires causing partial or complete damage to all other buildings in the World Trade Center complex, including the World Trade Center tower, as well as significant damage to 10 other large structures. A third plane was crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia. This led to a partial collapse in the Pentagon 's western side. The fourth plane initially was steered towards Washington, D.C., but crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, because its passengers tried to overcome the hijackers. In total, the 9/11 attacks took the lives of 2,996 people and caused at least $10 billion in property damage
Terrorism was traditionally viewed as a term ascribed to others. Prior to the events of 9/11, it was applied to foreign conflicts that were read about and briefly covered by media outlets, thus viewed as an abstract concept and someone else’s problem. Some would argue that the events of 9/11 was the fourth act of terroristic activities on American soil. The first was perpetrated on Native Americans, second would be the horrors and hells of the North American slave trade and third is lynching.
On September 11, 2001, 19 terrorists attacked the United State. The terrorists hijacked 4 airplanes in the middle of the flight. They fly 2 of the planes into 2 skyscrapers at the World Trade Center in New York City. These caused the buildings to catch fire and collapsed. Another plane destroyed a part of the Pentagon, which is the U.S. military headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Investigation officials think that the terrorists on the plane intended to destroy either the White House or the U.S. Capitol. However, passengers on the plane fight with the terrorists and prevented them from reaching their goal. Overall, 2996 people were being killed in the September 11 attacks and caused at least $10 billion in property and infrastructure damaged.
The invaders sent two of the airliners into the towers of the World Trade Center, located in the southern part of Manhattan in New York. American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the tower of the world Trade Center. As a result, the two towers collapsed, causing severe destruction of surrounding structures. A third plane was sent to the Pentagon, near Washington. Passengers and crew of the fourth airliner (Flight 93 United Airlines) have tried to take control plane from terrorists, and the plane crashed in a field near the town of Shanksville in Pennsylvania. This day
ET. Seventeen minutes later, the south tower of the WTC is crashed into by United Airlines Flight 175 at 9:03 a.m. In Washington D.C., the Pentagon is flown into by American Airlines Flight 77 at 9:37 a.m.Fifty-six minutes after being hit, the south WTC tower falls in about ten seconds. In Shanksville, Pennsylvania, United Airlines Flight 93 crashes and 40 people are killed at 10:03 a.m. Almost two hours after impact, 102 minutes, the North tower of the WTC falls. 2,753 people died in the crash and collapse of the World Trade Center towers. 184 people died in the crashing of the third plane at the Pentagon. From the four plane crashes and the fall of the WTC towers, 2,977 in total are killed. 1,640 out of 2,753 victims at the WTC have been identified, leaving 40% unidentified, as of August
At this moment, everybody there and around the world knew this was a terrorist attack. With both towers stuck by jets and both on fire, the FAA better known as the Federal Aviation Administration shut down all New York City area airports to prevent anything else from happening. The city also shut off all of its bridges and tunnels so that nobody would be able to get in or leave. At 9:43 a.m., American Airlines Flight 77 crashes into the Pentagon, creating a huge cloud of smoke and immediate evacuation from the building. At this moment in time people of the United States began to question exactly how many of these plans are coming and what they are going to hit. At 10:05 a.m., the south tower of the World Trade Center begins to collapse, falling straight down into the streets of New York City. A huge mass of dust and debris from the tower slowly drifts away from the building. Minutes after that, a portion of the Pentagon collapses, then around 10:10 a.m., United Airlines Flight 93, another hijacked passenger jet, crashes in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, close to Pittsburg. Around 18 minutes later, the north tower of the World Trade Center also falls to the ground, creating another big cloud of smoke and debris. The aftermath of this terrible attack affected people and their communities nationwide. It took many years to rebuild the destroyed parts of New York City.
instance during the first 10 days after the September 11, they were about 600 incidents on
By examining the September 11 attacks event itself, the people who cause this event and the result of the September 11 attacks, this paper argues that the September 11 attacks are a serious terrorism
Terrorism is a significant and recurring situation that has changed the lives of people around the world, overwhelming them with fear and uncertainty of their future. It has become part of our daily lives today as we are still fighting wars to resolve many of the issues that began with the 9/11 attacks on the United States. Terrorism does not have a definitive definition but must meet certain conditions for it to be considered terrorism. There has to be a reason for an act that is deemed political, and it must affect the lives of innocent people, putting a sense of fear into them (Combs, Slann, “Terrorism”). Not only may the reason behind an act be political, but it could also be seen as religious as well (Sterba). Since the 9/11 attacks, terrorism
Terrorism is the use of violence deliberately to achieve a religious and political, ideological objective. This vice poses a significant danger to the American citizens as well as the American government. The American foreign policy has contributed heavily to most of the terrorist acts witnessed in the recent past; it is what they have done such as the overthrowing of governments like in the case of Libya, bombings in Syria and Iraq, assassinations and the promotion of torture (Kaplan, 2006). This evil acts informed by their foreign policies has contributed to what the terrorists view as social, political and religious injustice and hypocrisy, hence proving a foundation for their retaliation against the United states.
The Central Intelligence Agency defines terrorism as “premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents” (CIA). This term was specifically created to differentiate terrorism between other acts of violence. These doings of terrorism are not just any act but are specific acts of violence. A dominant reason behind terrorism tends to fall upon religious beliefs and culture ties.
Terrorism is the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, especially for political purposes. Recently on September 11, 2001 a terrorist group calling themselves Al-Qadea, planned a coordinated attack. Thus high jacking four planes which were targeted at what some people call the heart of the United States, (Twin Towers, Pentagon, and another landed in PA). With this said we call these people terrorists.
Terrorism is referred by a criminal act which influences someone beyond the immediate victim, and commits an act of violence that draws the attention of the population, government, and the world (Terrorism research). Goodman explains that Terrorists explode the values they claim to fight. Their victims’ blood blurs and blots whatever ends were meant to justify the carnage (Goodman, 2010, p. 89) We all remember September 11, 2001 and how many innocent lives and people where effected, and that that is what they aim for. The more devastating the damage, the more inhumane, the more avidly is it sought by the strategist, ideologues, and theologians of terror (Goodman, 2010, p. 90).
Two of the planes hit two skyscrapers called the twin towers at a complex in New York. These buildings collapsed killing thousands of people. The third plan was flown into the Pentagon killing 189 people. The fourth plane which is thought to have been heading for Washington, crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers fought the terrorists. Everyone on that plane was killed (44)
Terrorism has emerged an issue that has major impacts upon society. It threatens our very way of life. Much of the world knew little of terrorism, and how devastating it could be; until 9/11/2001. This day now marks the coordinated terrorist attacks by Al-Qaeda, that occurred in the USA. All attacks involved the hijacking of commercial airliners. Two attacks targeted the World Trade Centre 1 & 2 in lower Manhattan, New York. With the crashing of American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower at 8.46am (between floors 93-99) and of United Airlines Flight 175 into the South Tower at 9:03am (between floors 77-85). These deliberate collisions lead to the eventual collapse of both towers, bring down surrounding building and creating a pile of debris (dubbed ground zero) that took almost a year to clear. While the others involved the crashing of American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. A fourth plane was hijacked (United Airlines 93) but later crashed in a field of Southwest Pennsylvania. The coordinated attacks killing 2,977 people and directly affecting thousands more. Many pressing questions still remain today. like , Why didn 't the US Air Force follow up on radar alerts; how did the US Government respond to the attacks, and what are the lasting effects of 9/11 upon the US and the world?. Many have also debated whether the 9/11 attacks were a conspiracy by the US government. Extensive research
From the lips of the FBI, “Terrorism is the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objective.” On September 11, 2001 the United States of America experienced such actions, it was the largest terror attack experienced by any country. The affect this had on America was tremendous,
