September 11. 2001 was a major turning point in American History, and its political and social impact can still be felt today. The tragic event shook the entire country on the civilian and federal level. Before 9/11 many did not think that a plan of terrorism such as that of Osama Bin Laden's would be able to come to fruition because they had great trust in American security. The destruction came as a wakeup call to the federal government and American citizens themselves. National Security became the first thing people thought of when they traveled, and civilians looked to the government for reassurance that they were safe. The federal government's plan of action was to pass a series of acts that would go on to create the Department of Homeland Security and Transportation Security Association. Along with the creation of more strict security measures came the question of "who is a terrorist?" within the country. The formation of the DHS, TSA, and increase of Islamophobia are some examples of the lasting effects that 9/11 had on the country.

The 9/11 terror attacks is one of the historical and fatal events that changed the United States of America forever, especially in relation to terrorists and terrorism. While these concepts were on the minds of very few people in America's population before the attacks, the 9/11 incident made terrorism to become one of the major concerns for the whole nation. This is despite of the fact that they were carried out in New York City, Washington, and parts of Pennsylvania. Since it was a major concern, the terror attacks dominated all kinds of media and contributed to increased security measures for average Americans. Moreover, terrorism currently provides a major threat to global security that any time in American and global history (Dyson, 2001, p.3). As a result, it has become a fundamental aspect for law enforcement agencies and their initiatives, particularly with the rapid technological advancements.

What is Terrorism? The FBI definition of Terrorism is the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives. The goals and objectives of terrorism can vary. They can used terrorism to gain money and power, or control over a government, or it can be used as a form of hate crime. There goal depends on what there objects is? For example if a small group is unhappy with there government they can use terrorism to try and change the government or take control of it. On the morning of September 11, 2001 life as we know it in America changed forever. 19 men from a Muslim extremist organization known as al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes with the intent of killing thousands of Americans. Three of the four airplanes hit their targets, the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, the last plane was crashed into a field in rural Pennsylvania after the passengers tried to regain control. These attacks killed almost 3,000 people, injured over 6,000 others, and caused at least $10 billion in infrastructure and property damage. The man behind these attacks was a Saudi Arabian man named Osama bin Laden. These attacks caused mass panic throughout the world, but it also increased patriotism throughout the United States. It also is what got us into the Global War on Terror.

When the citizens of the United States went to bed on September 10th, 2001 they had no idea that the events the next day would change their lives in one way or another for the rest of their lives. September 11th began just like any other day but by the end of the day, almost 3,000 people died in four separate deliberate terrorist attacks against the United States. The events on September 11th had shocked the world, caused billions of dollars in damages and made Americans question their sense of security. The attacks on September 11th, conducted by the Islamic extremist group, al-Qaeda, was an important event in United States history because it was the deadliest and biggest terrorist attack on American soil and caused extensive death and destruction

The 9/11 terrorist attack is known as the worst in American History. A normal day on September 11th, 2001, nineteen terrorist from the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda prepared to hijack four planes. Two planes were flown into New York City hitting the towers of the World Trade Center. A third plane flew just right outside of Washington, D.C hitting the Pentagon. The last plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. All attackers got on to the planes safely and were prepared to take their own lives and the lives of others (a suicide attack).

Which in turn, changed the way my generation will live their life.

The 9/11 attacks caused the U.S. to heighten security at airport to prevent terrorists from using planes as missiles in the future. This effect can still be seen today with the TSA and the extensive security scan/search that everyone has to go through. This adds a significant amount of time that you have travel as the TSA recommends that you show up two hours before your flight depart for its destination(tsa.gov).

The purpose of attacks was to target symbolic U.S. landmarks. While these attacks will be in our hearts forever, the effects are felt in other ways as well. The 9/11 attacks have left a very negative impact on our society.

Was terrorism a major threat to air travelers September 10th, 2001? No, terrorism was not a major threat to air travelers. But on September 11th, 2001 it was. It was just a normal Tuesday morning, people were getting settled into thier day. Then, news station broke into every channel to bring the horrifying news: A plane crashed into the World Trade Center. After the attacks terrorism was a major threat to air travelers, and everybody knew that. Air compaines knew they had to upgrade their security so that an attack like this would never happen again.

The criprits, Al-Qaeda, is a group that practice in muslim religion and desire to create a muslim state independent from other countries. The attack resulted in over two thousand deaths and six thousand injuries. 15 years ago, America was not officially engaged in any wars and the United States deported half the amount of people that they do today. This attack impacted America’s views on safety and vigilance notably. After being hijacked, four commercial planes deliberately crashed into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The fourth plane, although intentionally going to the U.S. Capitol, crashed into a grass field in Pennsylvania due to the passengers fighting back. This occurred because of the easy access to planes in 2001. 9/11 not only changed the security for America but is now resulting in an increase of terrorism in the United States. Not even a month after, troops invaded Afghanistan in an attempt to dismantle al-Qaeda, the terrorist group who committed the 9/11 crimes. The military involvement in Afghanistan now turned into the longest-running war in U.S. history. From the significant amount of fatalities to the involvement in the war against terrorists, 9/11 has a major effect on our society and changed history.
