Have you ever wondered what makes a hero? What makes other people think of this person as a hero? A hero isn't born overnight, a hero doesn't only do one small thing and he becomes known as one. Hero’s are made up of many characteristics. They are made up of many events in time that they did something that influenced people or the world. There are some things you can do to become more of a hero, to become known as someone who helps people in their lives or helps the community.

Hero’s come in many different perspectives. Some might view a hero as the fictional super heroes. Other’s consider hero’s to be modern day people. Some qualities of a hero are someone who is courageous, brave, and kind. A hero is a person who is admired for their courageous acts and achievements. They never give up even when times get hard. It’s more about the hero taking a stand for what they believe is right. Taking a stand counts more than winning.

Many heroes exists in todays world. Some are just fictional but the real ones are the ones worth mentioning. A true hero is a person who is willing to sacrifice everything for the well being of others. they're giving personalities cause them to give everything they can to help others. They are constantly in a race to fight for something beneficial to all.

In Canadian history there are many famous people. In my mind Terry Fox is a real Canadian hero. He is a role model to everyone because he didn’t give up.

To Start off, what is a hero? Well a hero to me is someone who is admired or idealized for courage and outstanding achievements. To be a hero you have to have concern for others. intelligence is the most important reason of being a hero.

Dedication originated from the Latin word dedicare in the 14th century, meaning to devote, or to commit one’s time and resources towards a task (Oxford Dictionary). Modern day usage of dedication is still applicable to the original definition, so little change has befallen the word. Despite also being associated with the Catholic church (to declare a church to be sacred), Oxford Dictionary defines the word as, “The quality of being committed to a task or purpose” (Oxford Dictionary). However, dedication’s definition in the modern world has expanded to include not only commitment, but also trivial amounts of focus onto a task, too little to be considered a true commitment. A quality a hero must have is bravery. Bravery is being courageous, fearless. Bravery is needed to be heroic. You have to be strong to help people or yourself. You have to do things that are scary but you have to be strong.

What does it take to be a hero? When someone mentions a hero I think of a strong, good leader that knows how to keep a team together. He/She must be skillful and brave in order to follow through with their ‘quest’, they must be willing to put their lives at risk in order to do the good thing they are trying to accomplish. In the movie The Odyssey, our hero Odysseus is faced with many challenges, he is described as a man skillful in all ways, on his journey he does not lose courage and keeps his men under control. In the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? Everett Ulysses McGill he is our hero, he is the leader of 3 fugitives and goes through many challenges also to carry out his quest.

Everyone has the potential to be a real life hero. You might ask yourself, What is a hero? And how does a hero act? Well, to be a hero you need to be selfless and be willing to sacrifice what you have for the greater good and never give up even though success or trials seem to hard.

Throughout the history of epic literature, heroes have been an integral part of many different cultures. Some of these heroes are fierce and powerful, renowned for their skill in battle, while some others and clever and cunning, able to talk their way out of any difficult situation. These traits usually emphasize the values of the cultural from which the hero came, and depending on the culture,traits viewed as heroic may drastically differ. Although there exists a plethora of traits any one hero may have, there are three core characteristic that, in my opinion, a hero must have to be considered a hero: the courage to face hardships, the willingness to make major self-sacrifices for the benefit of others, and most importantly, the dedication to do what it takes to reach their goal.

“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself” (Campbell 1). When we think of heroes most of us think of movie stars or professional athletes, but it’s not always about your popularity or talent it can also be about how you help society. What I think make a great hero is someone who is able to overcome his or her obstacles in life, is highly motivated, and has plenty of bravery.

Everyone holds their own idea of what a hero should be. One person might think heroes should have supernatural powers; another might argue that heroes should have exciting armor or weaponry. However, there are a few essential qualities that every hero harbors. I believe that to be a true hero, one must be stubborn, confident, and driven.

“A hero is someone who, in spite of weakness, doubt or not always knowing the answers, goes ahead and overcomes anyway.” - Christopher Reeve. Average everyday people face many challenges and overcome them most of the time, but there are certain challenges they just give up on. They start getting into a certain mindset where they claim they can’t overcome the challenge. A hero, however, sticks to the right mindset and keeps trying and getting better, despite the obstacles facing them. Even though they aren’t always able to save everything all the time, heroes risk and strive to reach their goals and do their best while exhibiting determination and modesty.

What does make a hero a hero? Is it there looks? Alternatively, maybe is it their personality? However, the question is what are those essential qualities that make one a hero? Different people require different heroes to look up to or try to emulate. However, whoever it may be, they all possess certain qualities. My hero is my mother, for the reason that she is selfless, compassion, and courage. That kind of selflessness can often be premeditated, since concentrating on others' needs often winds up helping one accomplish one’s own goals. However, a heroic leader does so without any anticipation of a return. The display and concern show the care one has for others. This can often apparent itself in strong but gentle actions planned to increase the lives of others. Courage and bravery come to mind first when we think of heroism. However, it is difficult to achieve anything truly heroic unless one is up against overwhelming chances. As Nelson Mandela put it, "Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it." These minor acts of heroism rarely attract any notice. A true hero is always sympathetic, benevolent and shows a great deal of compassion and sympathy to those poorly or in agony. He or she keeps away judgements; that are oriented to the self and embraces an attitude that serves others.
