The two novels are based in the past when women were not considered as equal to men. The characters, Tess and Jane are both the main characters of the novels Tess of the D'Urbervilles' and Jane Eyre'. Tess of the D'Urbervilles' is based on the experiences of Tess. Whereas, Jane Eyre' is an autobiographical book about Jane. The value of money plays a major role in both characters' life. The characters Jane and Tess are both women and so they are subject to discrimination. They both have a lot in common, for example both Tess and Jane are caring, brave, forgiving and very determined. Both characters faced challenges, difficulties and hardships, but they were able to tackle them with their best abilities. One of the main themes of both …show more content…
She struggles and faces a lot of hardships, which proves Tess's bravery at the end of the novel. Furthermore, Tess and Jane are light hearted, they are forgiving. For example: Jane forgives her cousins and aunt for the unfairness they committed against her and Tess forgives Alec for the serious crime he committed against her.
They are both very determined to do what they decide to do. This is proven in Jane's case when she stays away from Mr. Rochester even though he leaves her alone. In Tess' case, she is determined to stay away from Alec D'Urbervilles. Similarly, both Jane and Tess faced crisis situations and they tackled them with their best abilities. Jane proves her ability when she saves Mr. Rochester's life during the fire and Tess proves it when she takes care of her family.
One of the main themes of both novels is the way men dominate women and the women's inferiority. Both characters got what was needed for women, at that time. For example Jane had many talents which were the main ones at that time (art, music, singing, teaching etc.). Tess knew farming which was needed to help support her family. This shows their wish to help out. But even with these advantages, they had an inferiority complex which was due to "the men dominating society".

Janes view on life is very laid back very similar to Helen 's except. Helen doesn 't fight back because she doesn 't want to be burden
Firstly, Elisa and Mrs. Mallard related in the fact that they both faced the sad reality that women in their time periods were unbearably unequal to men. For example, in "The Chrysanthemums," it was clear that women had no say in the business aspects of things such as running a ranch. This is

In the novel Legend, by Marie Lu, Tess has always been an optimistic and caring friend to Day. When Day was about two years into his life as a street boy, he found Tess, an orphan. After breaking into the hospital, Tess tends his wounds. “She’d needed my help so much in the early years that sometimes I forget how much I rely on her,” pg 55. This shows just how much Tess cares for Day, sending taking the time to care for his wounds. Furthermore, Tess, being like a younger sister to Day, doesn’t desire to become another burden for him to carry. “I’ve dropped it off... along with our gift bundle,” pg 52. In this situation, even though Day was out cold for two days, she managed to find shelter, drop off the stolen pain suppressants, and manage to care for for his injuries as well. Lastly, another example of Tess expressing her kindness and optimism, was after a ‘government official’ otherwise known as June, told him he would never be able to buy a plague cure with the limited amount of Republic notes he had. “You still have time...we’ll find the plague medicine before then, I’m sure of it,”pg 82. This shows another side of her optimistic personality, despite their situation. Overall Tess’s friendship is priceless.
To point out another difference in status between the two characters, Jane Eyre rarely displayed a longing to be part of the higher class, whereas, Lily Bart is intrigued and attracted by it.
The novel Jane Eyre is predominantly a bildungsroman, Jane’s development throughout the novel is one of the most important aspects of the narrative. During Jane’s time at Thornfield she makes huge emotional progress through her relationship with Rochester and the discovery of Bertha Mason, eventually resulting in her departure from Thornfield.
The women in both novels were able to express power by rebelling against social expectations of women back then
Jane's character reflects Holden in that she embodies the same flaws as Holden. Like Holden, Jane's desire is to stay in childhood and not grow up. When Holden is telling
The novel Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald can be compared by what is valued by each character in the novel. Prestige, wealth, and education are some of the few things deemed important in each novel. In Jane Eyre, there is the notion that social status is analogous to wealth. During the novel, Jane is a poor girl who never holds any distinguished positions. As she is planning her wedding, Jane is worried because she can't offer Rochester beauty, money, or connections, but when she discovers her cousins and receives an inheritance, she slowly moves into a position of equality with her true love, Edward Rochester. However, in The Great Gatsby, there is a separation
The women in both novels endure a loss of personal freedom, both mental, and physical. Jane Eyre, in her blind infatuation with Mr. Rochester, allows her emotions to enslave her. She realizes her obsession when she states, "My future husband was becoming to me my whole world; and
Throughout history, Rome’s military was admired and respected by all other adversaries. But during the downfall, the structure of the legions was altered. Emperors began hiring foreign mercenaries to add more men to their armies due to the fact that no Roman citizens were willing to fight. The taxes became high and Romans no longer cared to be legionnaires. The legions were eventually made up of many barbarians so that Rome’s army didn’t decrease in quantity. These soldiers may have proven to be rough warriors, but they had no loyalty to Rome. Many of the officers would turn against the Empire in search of power. In turn, many of the barbarians who fought to attack the borders of Rome and bring down the Empire had been part of the Roman legions.
The major criticisms of the novel in question to be the melodrama used by the author and the wickedness of character shown in Jane and Mr. Rochester. While most critics admired the style of writing and truth of character portrayal, they did not admire the improbability of circumstances or the characters portrayed.

Basing my around the Unit 2 video engager, my advise towards my companions situation would be to take the job that pays more. This advise is based upon tax breaks specifically. If you are able to take advantage if government tax incentives then you become eligible for a tax break. During the video engager, it states that “We [the United States] include tax breaks for charitable donations or retirement savings to encourage people to donate or save. We offer an earned income tax credit for those who work but don 't make very much money to encourage them to keep working rather than relying on assistance”(Unit 2 Video Engager). Tax breaks, which is a marginal reduction of your taxes, makes the higher income more advantageous. The improved income looks better after a tax break, because you are likely to take away more cash than you were prior to the promotion even if you 're participating in the same tax break system. This only works if the friend is willing and able to take advantage of the government issued incentives, failing to do so would cause him to receive less of a salary after the taxes from the new bracket are applied to his paycheck. Marginal Tax rates are an efficient way to allow people to pay different amounts of taxes based upon their income, but do not force the tax payer to receive less currency based upon their tax bracket. The first X dollars is taxed at one percentage and the amount over it is taxed at another percent and is added
Authors, Jean Rhys and Charlotte Bronte constructed their novels in completely different time periods and came from different influences in writing. Jean Rhys’s fiction book, Wide Sargasso Sea is an interesting relation to Jane Eyre. The female character of Jane Eyre forms into a furiously, passionate, independent young woman. The female character of Jean Rhys’s illustration is a character that Jane will know further on as Rochester’s crazy wife who is bolted in an attic. Jean Rhys further studies this character, where as Charlotte Bronte approved that it was left explained (Thorpe 175). Antoinette, considerably like Jane, evolves in a world with minimal amount of love to offer. Both these women are taken cared of as children by
