Texting and driving is dangerous in general, but one major issue with texting and driving is that it takes the driver’s hands off of the wheel. In order to drive the car safely, both of the driver’s hands must be on the wheel and if the driver is texting chances are at least one, if not both of their hands are on a cellphone. “In just the 5 seconds it takes to send or read a short text message, you’ve already zoomed past the length of a football field”(Texting & Driving). So while the driver is not driving the car the way they should because they are holding their phone instead of the wheel, there could be cars pulling out in front of them, stop signs, stop lights, or pedestrians crossing in front of the car. This puts not only the driver at risk, but it also puts other drivers on the road and pedestrians at risk.
