My feelings about the occasion starts with an outward positive aspect of the event as it brought a sense of harmony creating an opportunity to bond. Encouraging involvement in the preparation of family meals creating a sense of tradition while assisting in bridging the gap between generations. Stories that were told gave children a sense of family values with a deeper acceptance. Although it was never mentioned, this was an occasion that stimulated healthy communication coupled with healing. One can even look at this event as being a casual commitment to make time for one another offering support and a sense of identity. Truly, this time meant having a thankful attitude about life which is more inward than outward. Its means to be content giving God praise for everything in my life. Joy and sincerity was also a reality reassuring us as we devoted ourselves to food and fellowship putting stress and conflict behind us. Likewise, it meant a time of preparation, participation, and an opportunity to reconnect with our beliefs and values. It also meant having a feast with turkey, pumpkin pie, and more.
These feelings were derived from spiritual

This event goes beyond me extending itself towards the community receiving its influence by the educational teachings of the Thanksgiving feast between the Pilgrims and the Indians, though misinterpreted it served as a pretext for this great celebration recounting the feast shared between the two surrounding the harvest. Children wore Indian hats and designed turkey feathers by tracing their hand out of construction paper to showcase this holiday. Furthermore, it was set aside as a National Holiday by President Lincoln to be observed by the American people because of the North finding favor during the time of war. Nevertheless, the message communicated suggested giving thanks for all that was given, and what we have in our lives, our strength, and the world in which we
For this week’s discussion, I decided to continue focusing on family relationships. Thanksgiving is two days away; it will also be my dad’s 50th birthday tomorrow so we are throwing a huge surprise party for him. The holidays are a time we spend with family enjoying each other’s companies. The reason I chose this topic is due to the difference my family compared to my husband’s side of the family. After reading Chapter ten I could learn more about the concepts to have a better understanding of why that is and of the concepts involved.
William Bradford’s “Of Plymouth Plantation” opened my eyes about Plymouth and Thanksgiving. First of all, there was a part in Bradford’s background that caught my eye: Thanksgiving. I am sure that many of us at some point visualized Thanksgiving as a large feast. However, I found it shocking that his narrative does not emphasize a feast, but rather a document of what it was like in Plymouth and the interactions with the Native Americans. Either way, I still found it interesting how Thanksgiving came to be. It would be nice to read another person’s viewpoint of Thanksgiving and to see if there really was a feast or not.
In “Uncle Sam’s Thanksgiving Dinner” and “America The Land of Opportunity”, both cartoons show different aspects of immigration. America was founded by immigrants. Our brave and heroic founding fathers set out to create a new nation. The founding fathers wanted to get away from the burdens in England and establish a new colony unlike any around. This nation would be free of unjust rule and any tyranny. They wanted citizens of the country to have rights that would never be taken away. We all came from Immigrants at some point in time. People left where they lived due to hardships and wanted best for their families. If Immigration didn't exist, America wouldn't exist.
When I imagine “The First Thanksgiving”, I think of peace and harmony. Then my History complex comes in, I remember all of the rape, cannibalism, and disease spreading that happened in the years before “The First Thanksgiving” ruin my picture perfect scene. The Pilgrims did not have a farming aspect when they came to The New Colony but with the help of the Native Americans they learned how to survive. When I was younger we always were taught that this time, in history, everyone got along and they were happy. The Pilgrims came to have religious freedom and not to be treated as second class citizens. This is a notable act but they had various pathogens that they were immuned to but the Natives were not. Historians say that the pathogens that
Thanksgiving Holiday means so much to me. I love to celebrate that extended weekend with my family. On the eve of the big day, my cousins and I meet at an elder’s house and then the festivities began. This shared feast started in 1621 with the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians sharing a harvest feast ("Thanksgiving," 2016). A portion of the food can be prepared the day before. We decide who would handle what task and when it time clean up the second generation, always try to make the third generation do it. We then continue to cook and clean and reminisce of our past year. Sometimes we would bring up our childhood pranks and stories of family members that passed and present. On the day of Thanksgiving we finish cooking,
As long as I can remember my family has always had food on the table and a family gathering on the fourth November in our home. We have all heard elementary stories of wood cabins and the Pilgrims and Indians celebrating thanksgiving. Though, I never knew the reason they were celebrating. Today as Thanksgiving is closely approaching, I am going to talk to you about the history of Thanksgiving, its traditions, and how our era and personal preferences influence the traditions in our celebrations.
A day before Thanksgiving in 1971 a guy that called himself Dan Cooper boarded the NorthWest Airlines on flight 305. He was in a wearing a dark suit with a black business-like tie. While Dan was in the airplane he opened a brief case and showed the flight attendant a bomb. When the plane landed in Seattle, Dan demanded $200,000 in cash, four parachutes, and food for the crew. He let the passengers off the plane but left three pilots and a flight attendant on board. The crew in the airplane headed South of Seattle while it was dark and drizzling. 45 minutes after takeoff Dan sent the flight attendant to the cockpit while he was putting on the parachute. Dan also tied the money to himself and lowered the back stairs and somewhere in Portland
I’m going to give you an example of my most memorable Thanksgiving. This goes back to four years ago. I believe I was in the seventh grade around this time. Thanksgiving was at my grandmother's house that year. So everyone definitely came for the food. The problem was that my two aunties weren’t getting along at that time. One came up from Florida and the other came up from Jamaica. My aunty Darrett was from Jamaica and my auntie Reds is from Florida. They were my grandma’s sisters. Now imagine being in a house on a holiday with two of your family members not speaking. Once it was time for us to eat we all was
Thank you for your service! I admire your commitment to work full time and take college classes. I am a military brat and spent many years living on post. I have experienced not having a vehicle and walking to the exchange for both lunch and dinner. I also ate at the DFAC for many Thanksgiving Day dinners. Good luck this semester!
The story of the first Thanksgiving, as most Americans have been taught in school, is not exactly accurate. Blame the school textbooks with details so abridged, softened or out of context that they are rendered false; children's books that distill the story to its most pleasant version.
Many U.S. holidays are celebrated in similar fashions among several different families nationwide. Dressing our children up in funny themed costumes to receive candy from people we don’t know or celebrating America’s freedom with fireworks shows and barbecued meats are just a few ways some holidays are celebrated in the U.S. Thanksgiving is one of those many American holidays celebrated in traditional fashion; though not as old as one might imagine, but through the course of the late eighteen to the early nineteen hundreds, change to the popular Holiday may not be as recognizable to the common
How different are our Thanksgivings really? How many people do you know that do things differently than you for Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving is a time where you get your whole family together and spend time with each other. During your time together, you reminisce about hilariously weird memories and laugh at all of the amazingly fun times you guys have had together. Also, you feast and make more memories that you will have with you forever! When your with whoever’s house you go to, you get to be you and not worry about what anyone thinks because you know your family loves you the way you are.
One of the conflicts in my book is that Seth’s died 3 years earlier to him getting tossed overboard the Erin Elizabeth, the boat his dad named after her after he got into a wreck that killed her. He solved the conflict in a very ugly way. He used to play outside every day, now he sits in his room playing video games. He used to eat everything his mother cooked, but when he had a meal of boiled red potatoes, green beans, and salmon, he chose to eat a PB and J. The only food he likes now are microwave pizzas, hamburgers, and hotdogs. He also blamed his father for the death. When they got into an argument, he would blame him for his mother's death, and the dad would say that he was fat or even call him obese, and tell him he was soft, a wimp,
With the rush of people coming in the door ready to eat. Starting to make the silence die. The wind starts to pick up with the refreshing november air blowing through. Some people pitch in to help set the plates and put the final touches on the food. While the turkey is being cut everyone knows the feast is about to begin. As everyone floods into the dining room with chairs and the dogs following preparing to have thanksgiving as well. Once everyone is there and all the food is set in the middle of the table we say our prayers and begin to eat.
