The American Civil War: War Between The States

The Civil War was caused by the economics of slavery and the political control of that system, specifically being states’ rights on the federal powers of the government, the territorial expansion of the united states that led to the division of the two sides, and the election of President Abraham Lincoln which was the final event that sent the nation to war.

Many causes led to the Civil War. This all happened around the mid 1800s. It was a conflict between the Northern and Southern states. Both sides had their own view on slavery, and their separate views caused contentions between the two. Both had different views on whether to expand or stop slavery growth to the West, or have slavery at all.

A Civil War is a battle between the same citizens in a country. The American Civil War was fought from 1861 to 1865 to determine the independence for the Confederacy or the survival of the Union. By the time Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1861, in the mist of 34 states, the constant disagreement caused seven Southern slave states to their independence from the United States and formed the Confederate States of America. The Confederacy, generally known as the South, grew to include eleven states. The states that remained devoted to the US were known as the Union or the North. The number one question that is never completely understood about the Civil War is what caused the war. There were multiple events that led to the groundbreaking, bloody, and political war.

The American Civil War took place from 1861-1865 was an inevitable event in the American history. More than 640,000 people were killed and millions more were injured during this massive war. The civil war was between the northern and the southern states where its most leading cause was slavery. Along with that, economic, political and social ideologies caused the civil war. The northern states, also known as the union, were more successful and antislavery compare to the southern confederates states. The civil war is an important event in the history of the United States. It began on April 12, 1861, when Confederate General opened fire on Fort Sumter, South Carolina, and lasted until May 26,1865, when the last Confederate army surrendered . All aspects of the war have been a topic of concern to the academic community, especially in the United States. In my opinion, the civil war not only important for American, but also important for the world. Here I will show you the main causes of the Civil War.

The Civil War was caused by the idea of States’ rights, the hypocrisy of the United States in its celebration of ‘Independence Day’ while slavery existed, and the election of President Abraham Lincoln.

Before the Civil War started, the North and the South argued on two main topics: slavery and state rights. In my opinion, it was because of slavery that state rights were argued. When Western territories were annexed from Mexico, they were admitted to the Union with the condition that that slavery be banned through the Wilmot Proviso (History.com). Because of this, slave states felt they were unfairly treated and outnumbered. The religious fervor of the Second Great Awakening also gave way to new ideology. Between the Northern and Southern sections of the United States there was a lot of differences and they developed along different lines. The South stayed predominantly agrarian in their economy while the North became more industrialized as time went on. Different social cultures and political beliefs began to develop. It eventually led to disagreements on issues like taxes, tariffs and internal improvements as well as states’ rights versus federal rights.

The Civil War began in April of 1861 and came to an end in 1865. It was a U.S war fought between the Northern and Southern States. Although there were various controversial differences, there wasn’t only one reason that pushed the outbreak of war. What caused the Civil War? The United States was divided by geographical lines, modernization, and slavery.

Many years ago, America had two distinct regions known as the North and the South. Although these two regions were apart of the same country, they did not share many similarities. In fact, these regions had many significant differences that set boundaries between Northern and Southern states. These differences included their geographies and climates, economies, and societies and transportation.

The United States was, at one point, not united like it is today. People had different views and lifestyles in the 1800's. A person's beliefs differed whether that person lived in the north or south. The north and south developed a few social, economical, and political similarities and differences. To begin, the north and south had some opposing social cultures.

Over 150 years, the Civil War had been the bloodiest war in the American history, also known as “The War Between the States” or “Brother Against Brother”, it was fought between the Union or the United States of America and the Confederate States of America. The war lasted four years from 1861 to 1865. What motivated these men to fight and what is the cause of the Civil War is a subject that many historians tried to find out.

The Civil War, 1861: a battle commenced from small differences. These differences, although they seem insignificant, divided a nation in two. Within this division, detriment broke out, leaving a once perfect nation broken and scarred from war. This piece will illustrate and explain the multiple causes of the Civil War to include the differences of political instability, economical relations, and slavery.

During the eighteenth century, the Northern and the Southern regions of what became the United States, were significantly different in terms of their economics, labor, social structures, and religion. The economics differed because the North had more money and the South relied solely on selling, trading, and bartering. Labor differed because the North had fewer crops that needed around the clock attention compared to the South, which was heavily reliant on agriculture, and where every crop required special attention. The social structure differed because the North had a higher immigrant population than the South. An important difference in religion between the colonies was that African Americans in the North were allowed to pray while African Americans in the South were not. The past choices the North and the South have made has led to what the states are today.
