The United States Constitution establish a national government and fundamental laws for its citizens. Before the Constitution, however, there was the Articles of Confederation, it was the country’s first governing document. The Articles were ratified in 1781, two years before the end of American Revolution to get independence from Great Britain. At the time of the American Revolution, the nation was a loose confederation of states that operated like independent countries. The national government only had a single legislature, there also was no president or judicial branch.
