The Auschwitz Concentration Camp

Every concentration camp was different in the way they decided to deal with Jews. During the course of the Holocaust, many Jews from all over were forced into labor and worked until they no longer could. They moved frequently and had to decide whether they should fight to survive or give in to death. (Webb) Auschwitz was known as the Final Solution for prisoners. They were sent there to be killed. Auschwitz was separated into many sections that were always worse than the last. Prisoners were given the very minimum amount of food and were forced to suffer at the SS guards hands. They were worked at least 12 hours of the day, given horrible living conditions and were treated as animals, not humans. (“Auschwitz: The Camp of Death”). Mauthausen was the only category three camp which meant that prisoners were sent there to be tortured and exterminated. They would either be worked to death or be killed for the guard's enjoyment. Auschwitz Birkenau located in Oswiecim Poland, The holocaust began in May 26, 1940. Over 1.1 million people had died at birkenau many people had died because of hunger, disease, horrible conditions, and the gas chambers. The holocaust began shortly after world war 2 began, hitler and the nazi party rose to power due to political power circumstances. Germans could not believe the defeat that had happened at world war 1, the government in germany so bad with money they needed somebody that could help them out and fix germany.

Eleven million people died during the Holocaust of these eleven million people 2.4 million died from medical experiments conducted by German forces. These experiments were conducted mainly for three reasons. The first of which was to help the Germans gain knowledge that would help them better understand things that would have been viewed as threats or weaknesses to their military (Holocaust Museum). For example the Germans knew little of hypothermia and the weather located on the eastern front, so freezing experiments were conducted at Auschwitz concentration camp where most of their medical experiments occurred (Remember ). The second reason the Germans did medical experiments was to further their knowledge on how to pharmaceutically

The Dachau concentration camp was established March 22 1933,at an old WWI gunpowder factory.Dachau was one of the first camps to use SS soldiers.At first,Dachau was intended to befor only men.During the first year of Dachau,it was able to hold 4,800 prisoners.After being liberated,Dachau had 31,951 certified deaths.The total of prisoners to arrive at Dachau is 206,206.It was not a death camp for th genocide of the Jews,although there was Jewish prisoners there.

Imagine a life without talking to your friends, and having to wake up early in the morning from a hard, scratchy, straw filled mattress and eating nothing but bread and soup everyday! Well that is what many innocent people had to go through in the concentration camps during World War II but that wasn’t all!

The living conditions in the concentration camps were harsh and led people to their physical brink. They were ran by the Schutzstaffel (oftenly referred to as SS officers). These death camps are where a majority of the killings of Jewish people happened. The perimeter of the camps were lined by barbed wires and watch towers. People who died were put into mass graves after the bodies were looted for gold and other valuables. Prisoners worked for 12 hours daily, and those who were unfit to work these excruciatingly long shifts were taken and used for horrific pseudo-scientific experimentation (Aladin Project). The mass graves were normally set to fire and burned every body. The experiments were gruesome and inhumane in almost every regard. These are many reasons how people died at these death camps.

Auschwitz was a concentration/death camp made by the Nazi's. It was the largest of the Nazi camps and was the most mass killing center that was ever created. 1.1 million People were sent and murdered at Auschwitz, mostly Jews, and has become a symbol of death, The Holocaust, and the destruction of European Jewry.

Thesis: Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland not only was one of the biggest Nazi concentration camps, but was where many Jews experienced brutal living conditions, many faced execution, and were used for experiments.

There were 3 people over the years that commanded the death camp . Rudolf Hoss 1940-1943 , Artur Liebehenschel 1943-1944, and Richard Baer 1944 till the end of Auschwitz. Auschwitz II commanders were Fritz Hartjenstein from 22 November 1943 to 8 May 1944. Josef Kramer from 8 May 1944 to 25 November 1944. Auschwitz III Heinrich Schwarz from 22 November 1943 to the liquidation of the camp in 1945.
