The Australian Counselling Association Inc. – Code of Ethics and Practice, is the largest Counsellor registration body within Australia. Some of the aims and functions of this association is to maintain a national register of practicing counsellors and to provide a consistent Code of Ethics and set of Practitioner Standards for counsellors. These standards were last revised in 2015 and are current.
The Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia is another association that sets high standards of ethical conduct for the counselling and psychotherapy profession in Australia which aids the ethical practice of its members and assists to protect the public from harm. Within our States/Territories there are associations such as The Queensland Counsellors Association Inc., Counsellors Victoria Inc., Professional Counselling Association of ACT and NSW, representing counsellors & or counsellors/psychotherapists within the state that is worked in. They subscribe to the objects of the Code of Ethics of their respective body of the state that their organisation or individual practice is registered together with the association that they choose to become of member of. They must be current members of the ACA prior to being eligible for State/Territory membership
