Acts 1: 5, this research paper is the product of careful research into the inspired Scriptures of God, and especially the New Testament. May the Lord, who sent the Holy Spirit to those who believed in his name and who ask him with fervor and faith, grants each of them and those who read these articles, the grace not only to gain a better knowledge on this subject, but especially to enter and grow in the experience of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and his gifts. Gromacki’s book is comprised of fifteen chapters. The book focuses on the personality, deity, and symbols of the Holy Spirit. Six chapters are dedicated to the various aspects of the Holy Spirit’s ministry. There is a chapter that focuses on the baptism of the Holy Spirit as well as one that discusses what it means to be indwelled and filled by the Holy Spirit. The gifts of the Holy Spirit as well as speaking in tongues are covered in the book. Each chapter is divided by headings and these headings are separated into sub-headings. Theses headings and sub-headings keep the reader focused on what the chapter is about. The book ends with a discussion of the future of the Holy Spirit.
In The Charismatic Theology of St. Luke, Robert Stronstad adduces a succinct interpretation of the significance of Holy Spirit according to Lukan theology. He examines both the Spirit’s activity in Luke-Acts and the implications of the Gift of the Spirit in empowering, equipping, and commissioning of God’s people for service. The text is separated into six sections covering “the Holy Spirit in Luke-Acts”, “the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament”, “the Holy Spirit in the Gospel of Luke”, “The Holy Spirit at Pentecost”, “The Holy Spirit in the Acts of the Apostles” and the Charismatic Theology of St. Luke.
The Book of Acts in the Holy Bible was a documentation of the actions of Jesus’ disciples in the continuation of the salvation ministry began by Jesus. The Book of Acts was written by Luke whose work goes a long way in bringing out the presence of the Holy Spirit manifesting through the Apostles; Luke was both a theologian and a historian as per his writings documented in the holy bible. Through the book of Acts Luke emphasizes about baptism through the Holy Spirit, it is through the Holy Spirit that God fills the people. According to Luke’s documentation of the work of Christ’s apostles in the Roman Empire, the Holy Spirit
Often held as a rite of passage and entrance into the Christian church, baptism is much more than just symbolic ritual. Baptism was commanded by Jesus Christ in the Great Commission recounted in the book of Matthew. Even though we are simplistically called to be obedient by being baptized the Christian church has long debated the aspects of this ordinance. Denominations are divided on the basic meaning, types and modes of baptism even two thousand years after the founding of the Christian church. Just as the other ordinance, the Lord’s Supper, congregations find themselves at odd with tradition, biblical interpretation and even individual understanding. However, the simple message of this awe inspiring act can be explained out of the
The fact that those who are connected to Christ are indwelt by the Trinity and empowered by the Spirit of God remains true for Christians today. In Acts 1:8 Jesus had promised the disciples power when the Holy Spirit came upon them and in Acts 2:38 Peter, having preached Christ crucified and raised from the dead, made it clear that those who, by faith, were baptized into Christ would receive the gift of the
However, in Acts 2:3 God used the prophecy of tongues to signify the torrential out of the Holy Spirit. It demonstrated that the Holy Spirit is about the washing of all tongues. Moreover, the tongue represents the organ of language, and the fire embodies the cleansing supremacy of the Holy Spirit to these additional languages.
Many Pentecostals believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is an event that occurs after salvation and is always accompanied by the gift of tongues. This belief leads to a separation of the Body of Christ into spirit-filled and non sprit-filled believers.
Brengle identifies baptism by the Holy Spirit with the blessing of a clean heart only attained when one gets rid of all evil from his heart. According to
Pope Francis says the words about baptism, “Baptism is the Sacrament on which our very faith is founded and which grafts us as a living member onto Christ and his Church. Together with the Eucharist and Confirmation it forms what is known as ‘Christian initiation’, like one great sacramental event that configures us to the Lord and turns us into a living sign of his presence and of his love.”
This paper will explore the fourth gospel as it pertains to the third person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit. A review of several scriptures in John’s Gospel will clarify the understanding of the presentation of the role of the Holy Spirit. The Gospel reveals the Holy Spirit as an intricate part of the Trinity and how it works within the life of the believer, revealing God and his will for mankind.
The Holy spirit comes to us through the sacrament of Baptism. Without it this sacrament loses a lot of its meaning. But receiving the holy spirit we are "made new", without it, we are unable to surrender to God and serve Him with our whole heart.
Christians have consistently struggled with defining the nature of the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Old Testament clearly spoke of the majesty and sovereignty of the Father. The Son was foretold in the Old Testament and manifested in the incarnation of Jesus, who walked among mankind and gave men direction by His words. Jesus described that He would send the Holy Spirit to help and minister to believers after Jesus went to be with the Father in heaven. The Holy Spirit showed evidence of His coming in the testimony of the writer of Acts. Since that time, theologians have debated the work that the Holy Spirit continues to conduct and certain actions that some believe to have been discontinued. This paper will consider how the author of Acts’ described the “receiving of the Holy Spirit” which the apostles and other believers experienced and how other theologians have interpreted the descriptions provided in the book of Acts.
The book of Acts begins with Jesus' parting words to His apostles before His ascension to the right hand of God the Father. In His opening statement Jesus promises the Holy Spirit, and He does this by distinguishing the coming of the Spirit from the baptism of John. “For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” (Acts 1:5) John had testified the same of his baptism, “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” (Matthew 3:11, also in
But the following two consideration indicate that the unique baptism of the Holy Spirit which accompanied the apostle 's ministry is not normative for the Lord 's church.
With the promise of the Holy Spirit we can become effective witnesses. This paper will explain the promise of the father, the importance of the promise, and how to activate the promise that dwells in you.
