Marijuana is an addictive and abused illegal drug in major cities around the world. Legalizing the drug will make it readily available to drug users or non drug users who want to engage in its use. In my opinion, Marijuana should not be legalized because doing so will lead to increased addiction and effect families. If Marijuana is legalized, it will increase the drug use, which leads to negative effects on health. It can causes respiratory illness, lung infections and cancer in the mouth, throat, esophagus and lungs. According to Van Deventer, a news reporter, “The more barriers there are the less likely you are to get addicted”. There is a greater concern that if younger children get a hold of this drug there will be long term damage to
The question of whether or not marijuana should be legalized for recreational and medicinal use has been a three decade long conversation. There are many pros and cons to legalizing marijuana. There are many different ideas about the effects of marijuana, but as with any drug answers are going to vary depending on the person you survey. Age, health, and mental stability are all factors to consider how a drug can positively or negatively affect you, and marijuana is no different. To be legal or not to be legal is the million dollar question up for debate.
Marijuana is a naturally grown plant that has beneficial properties and the ability to create textiles, paper products, and other goods. Marijuana is currently illegal in many states in the United States. The legalization of Marijuana will produce enormous tax revenue, reduce crime, give us a renewable resource, and give sick and suffering patients a new effective medicine. The legalization of Marijuana in the United States would both benefit the well-being of its citizens as well the economy.
In this paper, I will demonstrate some of the benefits and costs associated with the legalization of marijuana. This paper helps clarify some of the disagreements surrounded the issue today by focusing on the costs and benefits encountered by the consumer, alongside with, the producer and government if marijuana were to be legalized. In previous years, many states have contemplated the notion to legalize the use of cannabis. After the 2016 U.S election to current time, approximately 29 states have legalized medical marijuana, along with nine states and Washington. DC, have legalized marijuana for recreational use, for adults over the age of 21. The legal cannabis industry is accountable for
The legalization of marijuana is a very debatable subject, some people think it is bad and should be illegal, and some people think it is good in some ways if used properly. It should be legal because it has few negative effects, it serves other purposes than getting people stoned, and it is better than other drugs.
Should marijuana be legalized for medical use and treatment? There are a lot of people who believe that it should not be legalized due to various reasons. At the same time, it would be a good idea to legalize it due to the multiple benefits of using marijuana. The benefits outweigh the bad aspects of legalizing marijuana. There are a lot of benefits for the use of marijuana in the medical field.
I ask that you please take into consideration the arguments I will state in this letter, regarding the costs and benefits of legalizing marijuana in America. Currently, nine states have legalized the recreational and medical use of marijuana. The majority of the remaining states has only allowed marijuana to be used for medical purposes. However, even when used medically, marijuana is unreliable and has very little scientific data to support its health benefits. Advocates of the legalization argue that it has a large impact on relieving chronic pains and other symptoms associated with an array of illnesses. But critics of the legalization, state that other better known medications produce the same result as marijuana, and with less risk.
In the societies narcotics constituting taboo and users are isolated by societies. In our days narcotics are a tremendous problem with a lot of effects on the societies. I want to give the definition of Marijuana that is important for my research. “Marijuana is a mixture of leaves, stems and flowering tops of the hemp plant.”(Marijuana, 317). Today in most countries soft narcotics and especially narcotics like marijuana are illegal. Marijuana is a misunderstood drug that is thought of as dangerous but it isn’t. Because of people’s ignorance and gullibility marijuana has become illegal for all the wrong reasons and should be re-examined for legalization. Society today cannot understand that there has been a culture behind marijuana for many
In addition, legalization would reduce the burden on law enforcement, our legal system and overall prohibition enforcement. Currently, from a federal standpoint, marijuana sales for use both medicinally and recreationally are considered illegal. Although some states have passed laws that allow for legalized marijuana sales and use for medicinal purposes, most of these states do not allow recreational use of the drug. Marijuana continues to be sold on the street for regardless of legalization at either the state levels or federal levels. Decriminalization of marijuana sale and use, could result in a windfall of monies back to law enforcement agencies and the criminal justice system. A benefit could be seen from both the taxes collected at the
Smoking marijuana was known as having benefits for the terminally ill, and made sure there was a safe benefit for those who needed it. There was an eleven year study that states that the drug can stimulate appetite, help control pain, and help nausea. It can help control anxiety, which results in an therapeutic benefit. Marijuana use can also help people with insomnia and sleep apnea. This is because the THC found in marijuana relaxes the body and makes the body tired. It eventually leads to a deeper sleep. The National Cancer Institute announced in a study that people who used an extract spray of cannabis before they went to bed, had a more restful sleep. Outside of Washington, there was a push to legalize the drug, and so far six states have
Trying to find concrete evidence and finding solid information on the effects of marijuana is difficult. Questions US citizens want answers to is, “does marijuana have any repercussions to health effects?” If legalized what laws will be created concerning the drug. Trying to decide if this drug is safe is quit challenging, since mass media, celebrities, and pop culture try and explain it’s safe. Pop icons with social media hurt young Americans in deciding wither to follow the law or disobey the law by smoking marijuana.
The new administration promises the creation of jobs, but refuses to consider the extraordinary growth already generated by the legalization of a natural plant. Aside from the obvious positions in agriculture and retail, cannabis can expand career choices in many other industries: legal, medical, educational, hospitality and culinary, to name a few. While opponents of cannabis legalization maintain that only “bad people” associate with cannabis, over 120,000 people are obtaining gainful employment with companies who truly value them.
The topic of discussion is whether marijuana should be legalized or not. Marijuana should be legalized. Marijuana has tons of health benefits. It is most connected with chronic pain, and chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting.(Interlandi, Jeneen) Marijuana has been tested and shown that it safer than many different opulates. People are not able to overdose with marijuana unlike other types of medicine, and far less addictive.(Grinspoon, Peter) Currently 29 states have condoned it legal on the state level. But, it is still currently illegal from the government's perspective. When Obama was president, his administration did not even make prosecuting medical marijuana a minor priority. Donald Trump currently states that he will not interfere
I believe that Marijuana should be legalized. There are many positive things about the drug including several health benefits. Plenty of people need cannabis for medical reasons and are denied because the laws say that it’s harmful. Things are finally speeding up in it’s legalization; on March 9th a bill was passed in Richmond Virginia making cannabis oil legal for child consumption. It’s very controversial but even children need the drug, sometimes more than adults. Senator Dave Marsden said "Marijuana is a plant and there is a process by which you can derive these oils from that plant that can help people, and help our young children." This is just one step towards a brighter future.
In 2010 police made a marijuana related arrest every 37 seconds. Since 2001 over 8 million people have been arrested for Marijuana, yet there have been more deaths from vending machines falling on people. Marijuana should be legalized in the United States not only for medical use but recreational use aswell as it has many medical benefits, waste of tax payer money trying to fight it and a safer alternative to commonly used substances.
Does the state you currently live in allow the use of medical marijuana? As of right now 29 out of 50 states have legalized medical marijuana and 9 out of 50 states have made recreational marijuana legal. People assume just because it is illegal that it can have no health benefits and it’s only good at making people lazy bums that drug deal, but those people who do believe that marijuana should be illegal are wrong. Alcohol is actually more dangerous and in the past 10 years has killed 88,000 people in just America, and this drug is still legal. Marijuana should be legalized in all 50 states because it helps diseases, is less toxic than other legal substances, and it could also potentially help our economy.
