They had hoped he would choose MIT, the other architecture program to which he had been accepted. In his book, Lévi-Strauss discusses the social patterns of kinships. For Lévi-Strauss, the incestuous relationship and the incest prohibition are a central issue of discussion when investigating the structures of kinships. In particular, Lévi-Strauss’ book focuses on the exchange structures of marriage, and a great part of it deals with the issue of the incest prohibition. According to Lévi-Strauss, those who are involved in an incestuous relationship suffer a clash between psychobiological and psychosocial stimuli. That is to say, there is a biological stimulus that pushes human beings to sexual relationships, and which prompts a conflict with social rules when that biological stimulus deals with incestuous desires. Anderson’s observations are very apparent in any industry where there are choices and a bestseller’s list. For retailers, the number one goal is to make a profit and because sales are driven by preferences and tastes, it is paramount to accommodate for the general public. As a result, the choices for movies or the recommended songs are pigeon holed for the general person. That is not to say that what is popular is not worth buying, but it seems that every radio station still wants to play the same songs as the next station. I think some people like the repetition of certain popular, feel-good songs but after a while, it becomes nauseating to flip through stations.
