The secular model to describe the way the universe is created and built is called the Big Bang.

This paper looks at the Big Bang Theory. It examines the history of the theory and the scientific ideas on which it is based. It also examines some of the evidence proving the Big Bang and addresses some of the more common arguments against it.

The origin of the universe started out billions of years ago. To clarify, “estimated ages for the universe within the range of 10 billion to 15 billion years” (Steering Committee on Science &. Creatio). Additionally, I do follow this theory because I think the universe started out small and humongous compared to earth. Basically, I think the earth slowly evolved and formed to what it is today. We are not quite sure exactly how it happened or even how long it took to happen. According to www. Space.com it underwent an incredible growth spurt and doubled in size at least 90 times. This marks the beginning of an extraordinary set of circumstances that created a perfect storm. It was a chaotic set of circumstances the temperature cooled than heated then combined and light appeared and was eventually followed by complete darkness. This light is detectable today and can be researched which will hopefully lead to answers that we have been wanting to answer for many years. The birth of our Solar System happened approximately after our universe turned 4.6 billion years old. It is believed to have been formed out of a “giant, rotating cloud of gas and dust known as the nebula.” In 1960 dark matter was discovered and remain one of the biggest unanswered questions today. The Big Bang started off as energy, deep into the darkness because light didn’t even exist neither did gravity and the universe was never even created. The energy expanded and the temperature got intense and then started to expand. This is what cause the universe, millions of galaxies, stars, and solar systems. Scientists discovered that the space in the Universe was expanding and what cause this was the Big Bang. The evidence can be proven wrong but because of this, what had caused the red shift that was heard in the sky? Scientists believed that the red shift was caused by the Big Bang that was 14 billion years ago.

One of the topics I most agree with Collins is that of the big bang theory; there is too much evidence to ignore the big bang theory, but it does seem to require divine explanation. The big bang theory states that 15 to 20 billion years ago the universe singularity appeared, regardless of the cause. There are a total of ten stages in the creation of the universe based upon the big bang theory. Scientifically the big bang theory has the most evidence to support that it was the cause of the universe. There is a diverse amount of evidence that exists within the natural world to support the big bang theory: galactic expansion, the expansive blanket of background radiation, and hydrogen and helium proportions (5).

What were the key ideas and observations that led to the development of the Big Bang Theory? First, scientists found that the universe is expanding. The observation that led them to conclude that everything used to be extremely close together before some kind of explosion occurred. Second, the big bang perfectly explains the abundance of helium, hydrogen and other elements in the universe. According to the Big Bang Theory, a very hot soup of elementary particles flew apart at an astonishing rate and filled the universe. These particles in abundance are what we observe today. There have been many theories concerning what the universe looks like, how it became this way, and where it is going. The most popular theory that people hold today is that the universe began when all the matter ever present in the universe was contained in a tiny speck and that spec exploded. This is known as the Big Bang. This theory has developed a great deal since it was first conceptualized and continues to evolve today. Many different scientists have had a hand in this.

According the big bang theory, after the big bang an explosion happened and over time the earth slowly evolved over the course of millions of years into what we now know as the Earth. LaRocco and Rothstein (2001) state what happened after the explosion from the big bang, which is speculative “In the minuscule fractions of the first second after creation what was once a complete vacuum began to evolve into what we now know as the universe. In the very beginning there was nothing except for a plasma soup. As the universe expanded further, and thus cooled, common particles began to form. These particles are called baryons and include photons, neutrinos, electrons and quarks would become the building blocks of matter and life as we know it. During the baryon genesis period there were no recognizable heavy particles such as protons or neutrons because of the still intense heat. At this moment, there was only a quark soup.” (LaRocco, Rothstein 2001) According to the Big Bang Theory over the course of millions and billions of years the Earth evolved into what we know it as now.

A popular television show called The Big Bang Theory airs every Thursday night on the CBS television network and is also in syndication. The show 's introduction compresses the history of the world and scientific advances into a nineteen second video. Listen closely to the beginning and hear according to Robertson (2007), the “whole universe was in a hot dense state and 14 billion years ago the expansion started.” The song and images seem to flash at light speed. One of my sons asked, “What did the TV show mean by the big bang theory?” This one television show, while not explaining the theory, launched the phrase, “big bang theory” into our generation 's collective conscious.

When space and the universe began, the existence of time also began. This theory is well-known as the Big Bang Theory. Astronomers believed the Universe was created about 14 billion years ago. During that time, the entire Universe was inside a bubble that was thousands of times smaller than a pinhead, and it was insanely hot and dense. Out of nowhere this little bubble started expanding. This expansion created what we know as the Universe. In such little time the Universe went from the size of an atom to the ginormous galaxy we have that is continuously growing.

These scientists recognized flaws in the classical Newtonian view of the universe. The recognition of these flaws led to the development of the Quantum Theory of Matter as well as Einstein's Relativity Theory. These theories, as well as the discoveries that they led to, incorporated the entire universe as being comprised of energy, and that particles, time, and space, are just different representations of this energy.
