In the story, The Book Thief, Markus Zusak based the theme on the “Power of Words”. The book demonstrates that words and language have immense power in both positive and negative ways, meaning that the words in the book has strong effects to one another in a positive and negative way. The power of words often brought relationships between the characters closer together because it was the use of the words, the words were often used to establish a connection with others and to build a relationship. Not only did the words bring comfort, but it also brought hatred, especially towards Hitler. Some characters in the story hated Hitler because of his dictation. He used the power of words to take over Germany. Max wrote Liesel a book, The Word Shaker, and it is overall based on how Hitler rules all of Germany, but even his commands can’t destroy a friendship between a man and a girl who share the same hopes and dreams. …show more content…

The man plants a tree with words, later those words became symbols, and finally those symbols became hate. People could climb the tree, they were called “word shakers”, but the “skinny girl” was the best word shaker known.
