Do you know someone who lives in a different place? In my classroom we have recently read about a young girl living under the Taliban's rules. This book is called The Breadwinner By Deborah Ellis. Deborah Ellis is the author of many books for children and adults. Deborah Ellis wrote about a girl named Parvana, Parvana and her family live in Afghanistan by the Talibans law. Parvana is a girl and some of her siblings are also girls. Parvana and her sibling are not allowed to go outside without a male escort. When something terrible happens to her father Parvana and her family have to find a way to provide. This story has shown me that Parvana and I are similar and different. Parvana cares deeply about her family as said in the story. Parvana grabbed her father to get him out of the Taliban soldiers grasp when one hit her across the face with the rifle. As shown in this chapter Parvana would rather get injured than live without family.
Parvana and I alike because we both have a annoying and mean older sister. Nooria was mean and unkind to Parvana but she was also nice to her at other times. Parvana and I both are similar because we both have a big family and many friends. Parvana has many family members Parvana has 6 family members as myself i have 5 family members. Parvana and I are also

Parvana lived in a four walled apartment with her family. Another way Parvana and are different because she is a middle child and I am the youngest child in my family. Parvana is in the middle child out of Mariam, Ali, Hossain, and Nooria. The third way Parvana and I are different because Parvana has to live with men and the Taliban tell her what to do. The last way Parvana and I are different is because Parvana lives in a place where most of the buildings are bombed and have holes in them. My home is surrounded by other homes that are not bombed
In the novel, Parvana the first major change is father getting arrested by the Taliban, which mother and Parvana react in similar ways. The Taliban soldiers came to arrest father for having a Western education. Parvana and mother both react drastically to this because they love him and he is the only one who can support them in light of the Taliban rules. Mother is the first one to physically act,’ [springing] at the soldiers pounding them with her fists’ (pg.33). Seeing this, Parvana also reacts in that as’ the
Parvana is a novel written by Deborah Ellis that was published in 2002. Throughout the detailed book, Parvana and her companions encounter certain responsibilities which relate to the quote; ‘Some responsibilities are taken by choice, others are forced upon us.’ This especially relates to a certain character in the book, Mrs Weera who is one of Parvana’s old school teachers. Throughout the book, she has to make many decisions on whether she will stand up and take responsibility. This includes taking control of Parvana’s household, taking care of the children and caring for Homa.
The author states, ”I will never be well enough,” Father said, “but we should go anyway.” This portrays how Parvana and her father both overcome the obstacles of fathers sickness and the taliban. The taliban stand in the way of parvana and her father from finding their family by their oppressive rules and father’s sickness makes them go slower and it is harder to travel. parvana and her father move past these and find their family.-Jade
Parvana and I have some things in common. One thing that we have is common is we both have siblings. Parvana has three siblings and I have three siblings. Pravana did have four siblings but her brother got killed by a landmine. Another thing Parvana and I have in common is Parvana is not shy. An example of this is when Parvana

In David K. Shipler’s book, The Working Poor Invisible in America the reader is provided a peek into the personal stories of the inner lives of eight families struggling inside the vicious cycle of poverty. Shipler’s method of interviews, narratives of personal stories and observation represents an innovative study investigating the working poor in an attempt to understand “how people in real communities devise collective responses to their problems (Segal, 2010).”

In the second book, Parvana is remembering things about her father after his death. “...her father had been in prison, arrested by the Taliban for being educated in England,” (Ellis, 17). This evidence shows how culture can be dictated by the government/ military, because he was thrown in jail simply for having a foreign education. Being thrown in jail is an example of a strict norm. In the first book, Parvana and Shauzia go into a soccer stadium expecting a soccer game, but aren’t aware just how bad the country has gotten in the past few years since the Taliban took control. “A heavy-looking table was carried out by two of the soldiers. ‘I think those men are prisoners,’ Shauzia
How does one earn the title of wealthy? Authors Dr. Thomas J. Stanley and Dr. William D. Danko have studied how people become wealthy for over twenty years. They have conducted research, written books, conducted seminars, and advised major corporations on whom the wealthy are and what are the characteristics of the affluent in America. The research for The Millionaire Next Door was comprised of personal, as well as focus group interviews, with more than 500 millionaires. A survey of 1,115 high net worth and/ or high income respondents was also compiled. The authors define the threshold for being wealthy as having a net worth of $1 million or more. This is one distinction that the authors make in comparison
The Working Poor: Invisible in America is a story that takes personal stories and accounts of people lives to describe the injustices that people face every day. Poverty is damaging to both the economy and the people who face it. Many times social policies are created to assist the people who are working but still struggle to get basic needs like food, utilities, gas, and medical. Poverty is a perpetuating cycle that is intended to keep the poor oppressed and discriminated against. Respectfully, this critique will address the social problems that are identified in the book, the major social welfare policy issues, the social values and beliefs that are critical and the implications for future social welfare policy and social work practice.
Economics is a study of how society manages its scarce resources. The literal translation for economy is “one who manages a household.” “In an increasingly complex world connected by social and economic interaction and interdependence, news of stock market fluctuations, consumer confidence scores, and various economic indicators fill the media” (Broome & Preston-Grimes, 2011). This means that economics is everywhere, even in a home. Every household makes decisions that follow the economic principles. There are tradeoffs, and incentives. Supply and demand regularly show up in a household setting, as do decisions regarding limits on price and time. I
The belief that work is morally good is the definition of work ethic provided by The American Heritage Dictionary. Work can mean different things to different people. Usually, when we first think of a word and its meaning, we look at its definition. When defining what is morally good, one must remain open to past societal meanings of what was considered moral. Work ethic has developed and changed through different cultures over centuries. Historians and philosophers have developed great insights and theories pertaining specifically to the meaning of work ethic and its meaningfulness in today's modern employment, while some have praised it and some have cursed it. Which leads us to the question, do workers today have a calling or
