Frank has a wife and Willy Russell makes the audience notice that
Frank has an alcohol problem because of the way he is talking to his wife. Julia phones Frank and starts talking about the food, which she cooked for him and which she accidentally burnt and then Julia talks about what she will do with the burnt food. On the phone they were talking about where he will go after he finishes and he said that he would go to the pub later. It shows clearly in their dialogue when he says, "I don't need determination to get me into a pub…" he said this because he does not need a purpose to get himself into a pub and that he will go to the pub after he finishes. Linda and Willy’s relationship in the play is characterized by deep love and affection, but Willy does not frequently show the physical manifestations of such feelings. After thirty-five years of marriage, both characters have come to know each other’s subtle quirks and dreams, but Linda’s thorough understanding of Willy cannot be reciprocated. The Effect of Summer School on Rita in Educating Rita by Willy Russell 'Of course; you don't do Blake without doing innocence and experience, do y?' When Frank explains to Rita that after summer school they will study William Blake, Rita says that she has already studied Blake and implies in such a way that she almost disgraces Frank. Before summer school Rita has only been taught Frank and has only learnt his ideas, when she gains her own confidence she then challenges Frank on his views to do with poetry by telling him about William Blake. This confidence reflects the effect which summer school ultimately had upon Rita. Willy Russell was born in Whiston, near Liverpool, England, in 1947.
