Turkle describes that the technology influence relationship and communications with others. Even though the technology always can let people contact with friends and family more convenient and quick, at the same time Turkle also realize that negative effect influences people’s lives. In addition, as known to all, the role of parents for children is extremely crucial, and the communication with parents and the harmony of family generally influence children’s growth. “The Sanctuary of School” is written by Lynda Barry. Barry states that when she was a child, she experienced her parents fighting all night and felt panic. She just went to the school in order to see her teachers and employees in school, because Barry thinks that she has the feeling of security when she communicates with them.

It is no question that technology is changing people and the way we live. Almost every person depends on technology in some way to get through the day. Weather its smartphones, washing machines, toasters, or refrigerators, all of these common technologies were invented to increase our productivity and make life easier. The underlining question in this essay is to highlight the concerns of technology and prove that people are being blurred in their connections to digital reality and physical reality, work life and family, and our dependency on technology.

In The Circle by David Eggers, all personal secrets are considered deception. Withholding the most insignificant opinion or experience is tantamount to a blatant lie. Therefore, the central character Mae deceives her viewers when she partakes in private conversations with her friend Annie. Eggers uses Mae’s internal conflict over privacy and her eventual confession to express how idealism can delude an individual’s morality.

Every individual is in constant exposure to all sorts of different types of technology. This continuous display then creates a major decline in all social interaction. People are content with their lives and remain unaware of what’s really going on in the world around them. In modern day society this can also be seen. With technology becoming more and more part of people’s daily lives, it has become more evident that we are drifting apart from each other. Faulkner achieves this by revealing details about her, not about what happens to her in life, towards the end of the story. Emily went through many tragic events throughout her life, but why she acts a certain remains a secret. An example of when the narrator wants to make the readers feel sympathy towards Emily is when her father’s death comes up. The narrator reveals this at the beginning, so her following actions do not seem bizarre. Once her father dies, she insists that he is not dead and does not want them to take his body away from her. The narrator says, “We did not say she was crazy then. We believed she had to do that” (Faulkner 153). The readers interpret that the narrator experiences affection for Emily and admires her, as her behaviours never come off as peculiar. Faulkner uses the narrator to provide outside observations to the readers. If the story had a different point of view, for example, Emily’s point of view, the readers would not be receiving the information in a way that would help understand her situation. The narrator provides foreshadowing, “We did not say she was crazy then” (Faulkner 153). The word then indicates that the citizens did not see her as crazy before; but once they discover more information they realize that something is definitely not right. There is no doubt that technology has affected the path of communication, interaction and human relationships. A large number of communication devices like phone have been invented in order to help communication between people. Thus, by giving easier chance to be connected, this development has been encouraging society’s sense of togetherness. Advances in technology have brought people closer with the use of different communication gadgets or websites. On the other hand, it has reduced the real-world or physical interaction. The advancement of technology has given us two realities, our digital self and our real self. We have come to rely on technology, to such an extent in our daily functions, that we get anxiety when we are not using it for a period of time. The usage of technology is not inherently bad, but the neglect of the people we around, is bad. We feel the need to constantly stay connected to our virtual reality, that we may forget that we are living in the present day.

When she believes she is going to be terminated, her thoughts “[remember] Annie.
