Cigarettes are the leading cause of death in canada, and the most preventable. The topic of the ban of cigarettes has a deep history to consider, and there will always be both supporters and critics who continue to debate this topic.
The history and background cigarettes have a controversial past. There are tons of different brands of cigarettes, and they are responsible for many deaths and diseases. Worldwide, tobacco use causes nearly 6 million deaths per year, and current trends show that tobacco use will cause more than 8 million deaths annually by 2030. For every person who dies because of smoking, at least 30 people have a serious smoking related illness. “Smoking is the number one preventable death in the U.S. Killing over 480,000 people every year” (CDC 1). “41,000 People are killed from second hand smoke per year” (CDC 1). This is just one of the bad things about cigarettes. There are hundreds of different kinds of cigarettes out there ready to harm people. Some being more popular than others. As bad as cigarettes are, They are somewhat helpful in some cases.
