Final Essay The criminal justice system is a topic where everyone disagrees with everyone else. There are people who are for harsher sentencing and there are others who are for lighter punishments, and the fact that it reproduces inequality affects every American both economically and socially. It can be argued that all judges and juries are biased in some ways or not at all and this has to do with the races, skin color, gender, and sometimes the ages of the criminals who are put on trial. A phenomenon called “disproportionate minority contact” is a name for the overrepresentation of racial minorities in the criminal justice system relative to their population percentage in society. The justice system affects African Americans more than Europeans Americans by six fold and five times more African American males spend time in jail than European American males (Fix 2015). This is one of many evidences that support the argument that the criminal justice system is reproducing social and racial inequality.
Juvenile Sexual Offender Registration and Notification
Juveniles who have registered as sex offenders is also over-representing one racial population, with African Americans in the lead (Fix 2015).
