John and Elizabeth proctor were a happily married couple living in salem or so you think. That was until john decides to cheat on his wife for abigail williams, a servant who his wife had just fired. Soon after the affair John's wife Elizabeth found out and she wasn't happy. John continually got the cold shoulder from her for seven months after and she still doesn't trust him. She is now being arrested for witchcraft and will either confess or be hung. Abigail was the one who accuses Elizabeth of witchcraft because she wants john all to herself. This is probably one of those times john is wishing Elizabeth would have forgave him for the wrong thing he did and known he shouldn't have done that.
“I will not judge you John,” says Elizabeth Proctor from The Crucible as she forgives John and gives him the decision whether he lives or dies. One of the main flaws of Abigail Williams was that she had lust. She was in love with a man who already had a wife and waited for him all the time. The man she loved was John Proctor. Their romance began and John did not try to stop it. . He hid it from his wife but she got suspicious and threw Abigail out on the street. She quotes, “John- I am waiting for you every night.” which shows that she wanted to be with him every night and wanted him to continue to be away from his wife. She also quotes, “I know how you clutched my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever I come near.” This shows that John also felt for her.

In the Crucible, John Proctor has two lovers, Elizabeth Proctor and Abigail Williams who fight for his love indirectly. Unfortunately for Abigail, Elizabeth is married to John, so the only way she could gain John's love is for Elizabeth to be out of the picture. Both women had different personalities, which is what may have caused John to cheat on his wife due to their stale relationship. Throughout the play, Elizabeth appears to be a character foil of Abigail representing good and evil.
