In order to persuade the audience, this editorial examines the issue of vandalism, and the impact it is having on the community, thus employs a critical and accusing tone in conjunction with various persuasive techniques. Appealing to a sense of family values, this editorial advocates that the Berger couple are young entrepreneurs who are struggling to maintain their café, due to the tireless efforts of the 'thugs' who are vandalising their property. Through the use of emotive language, the editorial supports the couple and their attempts to restore the wall. The editorial represents Patrick and Lisa Berger, as the ‘good’ as they have ‘appealed months ago for the council’ to share the cost of restoration of the wall, however the council did not reply, thus presenting the council as ‘bad’. This positions the audience to be persuaded to the editorial’s point of view, as the council ‘refused to comment’ on this matter. Additionally, the editorial attacks the council accusing them of 'dragging their heels for months' to resolving this community issue of cultural vandalism. This attack makes the council appear to be ignorant of the community
