Over population is an issue that plagues people all over the world. American’s specifically are headed towards a population of over 400 people by 2050. High population numbers like these can lead to an abundance of environmental issues. One of these issues specifically is air pollution. Air pollution is primarily the cause of industrialization and releasing toxic fumes into the atmosphere. This causes the ozone levels to rise to unhealthy conditions. If countries like the U.S don’t become active in preventing these environmental issues, overpopulation would just continue to increase them. This would affect American citizens because environmental issues, like air pollution, caused by over population will have a negative effect on the quality of life and the ability to breathe clean air. …show more content…
Air pollution is specifically dangerous because of the effects in can have on a person’s health. There is an unknown when referring to the health effects because the toxins released from various substances can be different. The most common form of air pollutants is carbon monoxide (CO) which is typically produced from vehicles and factories. Huge cities in the United Sates, such as New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco are some of the primary contributors to these toxic releases. The American Lung association claims that “about 47 percent of Americans live in counties with frequently unhealthy levels of either ozone or particulate pollution” (Roppolo). This suggest that the daily activities of the average American, causes them to live in polluted areas. If you compare this to the rate of population growth, it can be said that this number would
The United States already had an overpopulation problem. Now that the population is growing even more we have more cities and states being overpopulated. According to Support U.S. Population Stabilization (SUSPS), if our population trend continues, we will be able to add enough population to create another New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore, San Francisco, Indianapolis, San Jose, Memphis, Washington D.C., Jacksonville, Milwaukee, Boston, Columbus, New Orleans, Cleveland, Denver, Seattle, and El Paso - plus the next 75 largest cities in the U.S. - by 2020. According to Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), low-ranking countries have high population growth and high ranking countries have lower population
Throughout the last few hundred years, humans have built a foundation. Compared to all of the other animal species on Earth, humans are the most intelligent. We have built houses everywhere, developed a system to sustain ourselves, and now inhabit almost every piece of land on earth. Humans are smart, strong, and know how to fend for themselves. But, humans have a tendency to take it too far, and we have already done so. There have been numerous advancements over the past few hundred years which could ultimately lead to the downfall of the human race. The main issue is overpopulation due to the advancements in technology and general knowledge. The statistics from an article by Kenneth Smail show that “In the year 1900, there were almost 2 billion humans living on Earth. Throughout the 1960’s, the baby boom, there were 3 billion humans on Earth. Today in 2016, there are just over 7 billion humans living on Earth.” Currently, we have taken up just over half of all available land on this planet, and with increased amounts of people having kids, our population will only increase. Overpopulation is becoming a serious problem all around the world, especially in countries such as China and India. There are many global problems associated with overpopulation that are becoming more and more prevalent, which will all have dangerous effects on the foundation that humans have
Air pollution is when there is a presence in the air of a substance that has harmful or poisonous effects. There is air pollution almost everywhere in the world. This is due to industrialization. The world today depends on things that emit hazardous fumes and other hazardous pollutants in the air. Air pollution that is hazardous or toxic can have health risks. Some of these risks range from skin rash, cough and headache to cancer, nervous system damage and birth defects. There are no positive effects of air pollution. Air pollution is also in the form of acid rain. Acid rain pours wherever it’s ready. Acid rain destroys plants, harms animals, fish and other wildlife. Humans aren’t the only ones affected by air pollution everything is affected.
There is no questioned that the United States is overpopulated. We are consuming resources at an unsanctionable rate, with the population increasing, you start to see many difficulties our nation faces surfaces on a day-to-day basis. Whether its contamination, over-consumption, transportation congestion, full institutes, clinics (sickness), exploited social amenities, unemployment (jobs), collapsing structure, inner-cities undeveloped (poverty), and not enough resources. When you have war, corruption, and poverty in many other countries in the West people look for better occupation for themselves and their families. The US is the best country on this earth hands down. Immigrants come here illegally because the process takes too long with good
Air pollution are impacting the environment, and it is imperative that laws are enforced to help build and sustain a better air quality. Air pollutants can be in the form of particulate matter which can be very harmful to our health. Stimulation to our eyes, nose, throat, and breathing infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia are all short-term effects. You’re head might hurt, you might want to puke, and you might have allergic reactions. Short-term air pollution can put people with asthma and emphysema in a worse condition. Long lasting breathing disease, lung cancer, heart disease, and even damage to your brains, nerves, livers, or kidneys are all long-term effects. If you’re exposed to air pollution continuously, it would affect children’s lungs and may complicate medical conditions for the elders. Some people argue and deny the bad air problem. They claim that pollution may actually be good for the Earth. The hazy weather caused by pollution has made plants far more productive when it comes to scrubbing greenhouse gasses out of the air. Pollution has turned plants into better carbon dioxide processing machines. But this is bad for our own health. Pollution is causing global warming which leads to massive ice land melting. Polar bears and other animals that live there are losing there habitats and even dying. Melting ice could also lead to more sea water which would bury some cities or land near the coastal areas. There is already a tremendous amount of people on this planet. If our land decreases, and our population continues to increase, some people would have to start living on another planet; therefore, making it a priority to address the areas
Population in the world is growing rapidly and civilians don’t realize the consequences of having too many people in this world. Just a few of the consequences are, homeless people, food shortages, and unemployment. With an increase of people, resources are quickly being used up. Should America try to mimic China’s population control law that couples are only allowed up to two children? Population control will help the world because it will eliminate food shortages, reduce the amount of trash, and stabilize the economy.
Our world has grown and evolved for millions of years. In the past, there was a time when offspring was needed to continue our legacy, but with many factors involved that changed. The chaos caused by the government: poverty, injustice, death, illness, a decrease of necessary resources, and a reduced mortality rate, which came with the improvement of medical facilities are only some of the factors that created change from the past to the present. The factor that had the most impact on today's society is immigration. People from many different countries came to one single country, this being our home, America. We are in the youngest country of all, and our image as a country portrays a place where opportunities are given to every family and individual
Another thing that countries could try in order to decrease the overpopulation is increase the focus they put on their women. Developing countries tend to have higher rates in childbirth the ration to parents to kids are higher. The more children that people have the more children that can go to work , bring in money or cook and clean around the household. Women and girls in these countries have little to no education. They have to stay at home and raise their children or help out with brothers and sisters.Women that live in countries like the United States and Canada have low birth rates and tend to wait until they are older to have children if they have any. These women are bought up to go to school and then further their education. After
growth rate in the United States is approximately 2.2%. This means by 2050 the population could reach 438 million people (“World Bank Group”) Many citizens do not see any danger of the population rise in the United States. Unawareness might be the biggest factor in why they believe this; however, overpopulation can destroy the environment, including food and water sources, while also raising unemployment rates and the risk of disease.
By the year 2020, elderly over the age of 65 are going to overpopulate those who are 14-24 years old. Sadly, The United States is not prepared for such an impact. In a way, this nation is dealing with depopulation and overpopulation. Today, the elderly are living longer due to the improvements in healthcare services and continuous financial investments in medical research, but the birthrates are declining among young adults. Most importantly, the rate of dementia, Alzheimer’s and other illnesses are growing among elders. This is a result of unhealthy eating habits, a lack of exercise, smoking/alcohol consumption and the large distribution of different kinds of drugs. There are a number of reasons as to why this occurs such as social learning,
Air pollution is a big problem in our world today because it affects our lives on earth as well as animals and plants. Breathing polluted air can make you very sick it can cause your eyes and nose to burn. It can irritate your throat and even make your breathing difficult. Air pollution is a big environmental problem because it is affecting our crops, trees, wildlife, and lakes/oceans. Pollution is harming fish and other aquatic life in those bodies of water.
The problem that we are having here is rapid human population growth and without a doubt there is a problem with this in today’s society. This type of problem is a very complex issue. You see a lot of rapid population growth more so, in other countries and your are seeing it more and more in the U.S. it is linked to many problems, including poverty, hunger, high infant mortality, and inadequacies in social services, health services, and infrastructure. It would be a gross oversimplification to say that population growth causes these problems. Population growth could just as easily have been the effect of economic insecurity and poor health care. However, rapid population growth may defeat efforts to combat poverty and hunger and to improve
In the United States roughly 22 percent of our population is under the age of 15.
In the first part of the book, the author talks about how we are changing our relationship with the world, and these changes that the author discusses potentially widened our ingenuity gap. The ingenuity gap, is between our supply and requirement for ingenuity. Population increasing, meso scale, and emergent properties, they are the changes that people made to this world. However, how these changes widen our ingenuity gap? Population increasing has a big effect on society, environment and natural resources. Through them, population can make a huge influence on ingenuity gap; meso scale makes us unable to see the outside world and we cannot come up with the new ideal; emergent properties make the problem more complex, so it is becoming more
Air pollution can cause many health issues when exposed to it. In ten European cities, a study showed that around 15% of those children who have asthma, were caused by pollution specifically in road traffic, which occurs mainly urban areas (Guarnieri and Balmes). Air pollution, once it reaches a higher level than an AQI of 101, it is dangerous for those who have asthma (Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America). Especially in those days where the ozone level is at a higher level than most days. It can vary from how you maintain your household, to the environment in which people choose to live in. Air pollution is not only dangerous outdoors; it is dangerous in your own household. Having certain items in your house can contribute to adding on more air pollution inside your home. There is ways to help minimize the exposure of air pollution to prevent from encountering certain health issues that air pollution can potentially cause. Having asthma can be due to air pollution.
