suspicious of a group of people leaving together. On August 4, 1944 Anne Frank and her family along with her family's friend, hid away in a secret Annex. Anne's dad thought it would be easy that everyone lived together but it wasn’t. The tension in the attic rose quickly because there were so many different opinions of so many different people. They were always fighting about food because their never seem to be enough of it. They would eat soup with potatoes and butter and they always had to ration what they ate. Anne was upset that she could not go outside as well as being found and getting killed because of it. A …show more content…
Anne stated that “it was damp and dark in the hiding place.” ( Anne's Diary, 1944) No one had there own room. Everyone had to share with someone. Anne shared a room with Fritz Pfeffer, another refugee, although they both had their own bed. There was one bathroom that everyone in the house had to share. On Anne's thirteenth birthday she received a diary from her dad. She was so excited that when she got it she started writing in it immediately. She would not let it out of her sight a second. She wrote in it everyday because she felt that was the only way she could express all of her feelings and emotions. The diary contained information not only of her life but also any updates on the war. It had information about Hitler and the Concentration Camps as well as what was going on In her city with the soldiers' and how it was affecting the community. She writes “whoever is happy will make others happy to. I don't think of all the misery, but all the beauty that still remains. No one has ever became poor
You can tell that Anne was very unhappy living in the rundown office building. She was crowded with all of the people living there, and they considered her “annoying”. Anne did not try to be annoying, but she was also one of the youngest in the building. She took lessons on reading and writing, and got better with writing in her diary. She named the Diary “Kitty” and kept it hidden from the rest of the people in the “Secret Annex”. She could only stand by while other Jews were taken and killed in concentration camps. She lived a very sad life in hiding before they were tipped off. (“Diary of”)
The first part of the diary starts with her being a regular girl having fun and turns into a girl going into hiding with seven other people. In addition, she has to deal with relation problems with her mom, sister, and the people she is in hiding with. The problems begin when eight people are confined in a small area and everybody begins to irritate and annoy one another. Anne was especially concerned with herself and with her attitude towards the others in the group. She's mainly concerned with her mother who always treats her like baby. Mr. Frank tires to ease the quarrels between them by telling Anne to help out more around the house, but Anne stubbornly declines preferring to concentrate more on her studies. She especially gets plenty of confrontations with Mrs. Van Daan who thinks she is a spoiled little girl. Mrs. Van Daan constantly tells Anne’s father, “ If Anne were my daughter.” Anne’s respond to this in her diary was, “Thank heavens I’m not!” Of course
In the first chapter of the Diary of Anne Frank, from dates June 14, 1942, to July 9, 1942, she starts to first talk about naming her diary “kitty”(page 3). She then goes on to talk about how she enjoyed her last weeks of freedom and why her father decided to go into hiding. This was all started when the family received a letter requesting the presence of her “sister in a concentration camp” (page 16). Her father realizes it 's a trick to put her into a concentration camp and forces them into the secret rooms behind the bookcase where Anne family and friends would begin hiding. These first few entries are staring to describe the family 's struggles and how joyful and willing Anne really is.
While in hiding, Anne Frank was closed off from the world as she was not allowed to leave the “Secret Annex”. To pass time Anne would read books and wrote in an autograph book she received for her 13th birthday, the book in which she used as a diary described her life in hiding, her various thoughts, and relationships with the members of the Secret Annex in which Anne was hiding in. Before going into hiding, Otto Frank had notified a few of his most trusted workers where they would be hiding. The workers would shortly visit the annex to tend the Franks with necessities such as food and gave news of the war. Although life was hard, their survival from Hitler’s regime seemed promising until in a sudden sad turn of events, one of Otto’s workers
Over the two-year period she was living in hiding, Anne Frank’s thoughts, feelings, and experiences about the other occupants of the Secret Annex changed drastically. A total of eight people hid in the Secret Annex and the close proximities annoyed Anne to no end. Even though she was often irritated with everyone, having to go into hiding enabled her to learn more about some of the other occupants. Through her diary entries, we can understand her thoughts, feelings, and experiences regarding the van Daans and Albert Dussel.
Throughout her time in the “Secret Annexe,” (what she called their hiding space) Anne grew from a hot-headed child into a smart young woman. In the beginning of the book, only 2 months after going into hiding, she writes that feels grateful that her and her family have been spared the fate of some of her friends, however this also makes her feel guilty, because she can’t save those who didn’t get the chance to go into hiding. In her diary, on November 19, 1942, she wrote,“We’re so fortunate here, away from the turmoil. We wouldn’t have to give a moment’s thought to all this suffering if it weren’t for the fact that we’re so worried about those we hold dear, whom we can no longer help. I feel wicked sleeping in a warm bed, while somewhere out there my dearest friends are dropping from exhaustion or being knocked to the ground.” (paragraph 5 pg 55)
Mr. and Mrs. van Daan and their son Peter (who is a few years older than Anne) are also in hiding with the Franks. Anne’s adolescence is spent hidden from the outside world. She’s cooped up in tiny rooms, tiptoeing around during the day. After almost 2 years in hiding they are discovered and deported to concentration camps. Anne’s father, Otto Frank, is the only one of the eight people to survive. After her death Anne becomes world famous because of the diary she wrote while in hiding. Miep Gies is a Dutch woman who assists the annex residents with food, clothing, books, and companionship. She cheerfully assists them with the things they need and pitches in to give them holidays. Along with Elli, she retrieves and saves Anne's diary from the floor after the annex residents are arrested (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miep_Gies). Miep Gies and her husband took action and helped their Jewish friends. This situation affected their daily lives in many different ways. The fact that Miep and her husband helped the Jews, knowing that they
In conclusion, Adolf Hitler and the Nazis brought a lot of damage to the Jewish and others. People were forced to hide in order to keep their lives. While they were hiding they could not do a single thing that would put them at risk of being found. “The Diary of Anne Frank” puts all of this into perspective. Anne kept a diary with her while experiencing the struggles of this war. Her diary helped people to feel what she was feeling during that time.
Anne Frank’s diary tells us she had to grow up and learn about puberty and independence in a small set of rooms while hiding from the Nazi’s. Sadly, she and her family are found by the enemy and then she dies inside a death camp.
Anne Frank was only fifteen when she went into hiding with her family. There was a diary she had to write everything down. The frank family lived with two other pairs and there was no space for all of them, but they all had to hide together. There were three different families who stayed there. The Franks, The Van Pels, and Mr. Pfeffer(Occupants 3). They all stayed in the same place and were always quiet because there were always people downstairs in the shop. The attic, they stayed in was a business building where customers came in and they would buy things. One time a customer heard something from the attic. Miep was one of the helpers who would get all of them food. “It is hard to go get food for 8 people. She would go to the store and get as much food as she could and lie to the people who asked her what the food was for. She wasn’t the only helper, there were about 5 others who would get money for them and bring water and food. The manager of the building and business Was Johan Voskuijl He knew about the people hiding, and keeps an eye on things. He builds the famous ‘bookcase’ that hid the door to the secret annex. There were two managers one was Johan and the other was Wilhelm. Wilhelm Van Maaren took over the business when Johan felt
Once Anne Frank went into hiding she saw her mother always in her unguarded rawness. She didn’t see her mother as a human, but she was. When Anne’s mother tried to have a private discussion she couldn’t because Anne was like a door that wasn’t there.
The Diary of a Young Girl, a book by Anne Frank, is about a girl who is living through a harsh time in history which was called World War II. This war lasted from 1939 to 1945. It was fought in Europe, in Russia, North Africa and in Asia. 60 million people died in World War 2. About 40 million were civilians.
When they went into hiding she could only bring a few things with her, the article Anne the Writer says that the first thing that Anne packed was her diary. To pass time in the Secret Annexe, Anne wrote in her diary every day about everything that was happening. She decided to give the diary a named, Kitty. Anne thought of Kitty as her best friend, she wrote everything to her like her feelings and stories she made up. The article Anne Frank says that Anne wrote pages and pages in Kitty and then decided that after the war was over she would want to publish her diary.
Life in the Secret Annex for the Frank and Van Daan Families was difficult for everyone. In fact, they stayed there for over two years with barely anything to eat and very little space. With this in mind, Anne was only 13 years old and had to leave all her things behind to go into hiding. Not only did Anne have to leave all her things, she also she also had to deal with another family, whom she never met before. A total of seven people had to share such a little space and a limited amount of food.
Can you imagine living in a tiny, cramped attic for over two years? That is exactly what Anne Frank and her family had to do during the Holocaust. This small attic, called the secret Annex, housed the Frank family, the Van Daan family, and a man named Mr. Dussel. These eight Jewish people used the Annex as a hiding place from the arbitrary Nazis that were attempting to send them to Jewish concentration camps. Forcibly, they relied on friends named Miep and Mr. Kraler, who had great magnanimity, to bring supplies, were deprived of many comfortable living conditions, and were always in danger of being caught. All in all, you can infer how torturous those two years of living in the secret Annex were for Anne Frank and her loved ones.
