Conservation is everyone’s responsibility. Even if you don’t spend a lot of time in nature or appreciate her beauty, everyone needs access to food, clothing, medicine, clean air and water, and a variety of other resources you depend upon everyday. It is in everyone’s best interest to try to conserve natural system.
What is Food Conservation?
Food conservation is the process of treating and handling food in such a way as to stop or greatly slow down spoilage or simply we can say food conservation is a way of preventing food from getting rotten. This can be done in a number of ways you can coat a food in a substance that will preserve it such as salt, sugar of vinegar. You can dry food or you can keep it in an environment that makes bacteria that degrades food

(Advantages and Disadvantages of food conservation)
There are disadvantages and many of those disadvantages can be alleviated by using a form of food preservation that can extend the use of our food harvests even longer
Knowing Your Food Preservation Options
As you have seen, no one type of food preservation is best for every situation, however, by knowing the advantages and disadvantages of the various types of food preservation is right for your current situation. Perhaps you'll start by trying to simply grow your own food to eat fresh, and that's fine, but when you find yourself more of a certain food than you and your family can eat at one time, it’s nice to know that it does not have to go to waste.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Canning
A processing and sealing food airtight container is called canning. Canning began after the French military in 1795 offered a cash prize of 12,000 francs for a new food preservation method. By 1806, Nicolas Appert had a proven method of packaging that prevented microorganisms contaminating from the food he canned. Since then, cans and jars have been used both commercially and in homes to can large quantities of all types of foods.
methods, along with recovering the unused food for use in food banks or bioenergy. By 2015
To conclude, our current way of agricultural life is not sustainable. The article “What’s for supper” has made me realize that if I hope for a better future for generations to come I should support a locally sourced lifestyle. This article is an eye opener to me and proved to me the importance of supporting locally grown produce. Locally grown produce supports the environment as well as jobs for people in the community. The current system takes a toll on every species on the planet. Humans are overproducing on a massive scale and are wasting close to half of our supplies and
Food waste is an environmental, economic, and ethical problem that can lead to less calorie intake and unnecessary damage of our assets. Individual behavior can redesign food waste at home and lead to bigger changes in the ecosystem. The problem is Americans throw out more food than glass, paper, and plastic. Also about 25% of food grown, processed, and transported in the US will never be consumed. When food is disposed in a landfill it rots and becomes a significant source of methane— a potent greenhouse gas with 21 times the global warming potential of carbon dioxide.
Leopold expresses, “a system of conservation based solely on economic self-interest is hopelessly lopesided,” (p. 251). The self-interest economists who are only interested in the profit of which they gain from the land cannot spread the importance of the respect for the community. The people who share a knowledge and passion for the environment will educate those who are unaware. As well as being educated on the land, it is essential for humanity to understand that we are not users of what Earth has to offer us, but associates,
As for this reason conservation is seen as a beneficial way to make sure we can accomplish as much of saving the planet as
Looking at the Impacts of Food Waste, In general by wasting food that’s mean we are wasting our money but in different way. . At the same time it is impacting us financially it’s also playing a huge role in the problems we see happening to our environment. The US Environment Protection Agency said, “Generating food waste has significant economic as well as environmental consequences. Whether you’re an individual, family, or business, chances are a considerable portion of your budget goes towards buying food — either for you, your family, or your customers. And since we now throw away more food than anything else, that means we are throwing away a lot of our money.” (“Basics,” par. 2) They went on to say that wasting food does more than impact our economy; it also impacts our environmental severely. We need to look at other countries and see what they’re doing with their food waste mistakes and do them same in our country the
Industrial agriculture is currently the predominant food production system in the United States. It is distinguished by large-scale monoculture, abundant use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and meat production in CAFOs. CAFOs are ‘Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations’, otherwise known as factory farms, which aim to cram as many animals in one space to boost efficiency and profit at the expense of animal suffering and environmental hazards.
From farm to table getting our food and produce to the consumer is a tricky task. Even with all the planning millions of food ends up wasted a year. Many steps are already taken to reduce the amount of food being wasted but are they enough? In America alone 200 to 250 pounds is wasted per person per year! According the world resources institute “32 percent of the world’s food was never consumed in 2009”.
Farmers have to consider the food quality checks. Farmers are aware of that if fruits or vegetables are not in a perfect shape supermarkets are not going to buy them, so farmers just throw away imperfect fruits and vegetables. Royte who is a nature writer, in her article “Eat Ugly!” she explained, “A lot of food sellers think no one will buy freaky-looking food. So they toss it before trying to sell it. Each year, 1.3 billion metric tons of food gets wasted in this way” (Royte). According to Richard Schiffman gave a solution for this problem in his article “What a Waste!” by giving the example of “Andronico's Community Markets in California” who sell imperfect looking fruits and vegetables to a very low price (Schiffman). This will help Famers and they don’t need to throw away the ugly looking products. The other reason food being wasted in fields by farmers is that they have to make sure that they have a steady supply of products for supermarkets (Matt and Peek). They purposed a solution for this problem, “With better food labeling—for example, using a spoils-on date rather than a sell-by date markets could keep their stock longer and ease demand on farmers” (Matt and Peek). The government should bring stricter policies to decrease food waste in fields and supermarkets can play an important role to reduce food waste
In conclusion, the effect of wasting food has drastic consequences. Wasted food is equivalent to wasted water and wasted water upsets our ecosystem. If the thought of the wasted money and water that occur every time food is wasted aren't enough to stop the waste of food, think of the droughts and torrential rains that come with it. Everyone can stop wasting food and in so doing, saving the ecosystem and the world, everyone can be a food and water
This paper will examine the problem of food waste in the United States. Firstly, this paper will describe what food waste is, and why food waste in the American society is an immense issue that needs to be addressed. In addition, it will address the consequences of food waste and the possible problems that this issue may bring in the future. Secondly, the paper will discuss three policy solutions that would help solve the problem of food waste in the United States: provide an enhanced tax deduction for corporations that choose to donate their food to the food banks, performing an extensive study that covers every single aspect of food waste in the current food system, and require every citizen to compost their food waste. Afterwards, it will analyze the pros and cons, and the hypothetical strengths and vulnerabilities of each policy solution. Lastly, this paper will discuss personal opinions on the issue of food waste.
There are many other ways that we can be done, as well to solve the problem of wasted food. Also we take this for granted while we can give our leftovers to some other people in need. Here I will bullet point all of the possible answers you can have.
In this summary I will briefly explain the entirety of my senior project essay which has to do with food waste. I will talk about four major sections in which I divided my senior project into to help me write it. First was how much food is wasted not just here in the U.S. alone, but the world in general, second describes the negative affects food waste has in the world, third explains and gives reasons why some of this food goes to waste, and finally the final section gives the reader information on how we as individuals and as a nation combined can reduce the amount of food waste.
We should promote the conservation of our ecologies by reducing the amount of waste that goes directly into the environment and promoting green thinking and living all across the world. For instance, we could protect our environment by reducing the amount of cattle that feed in a certain area and by prohibiting the introduction of alien-invasive species as they deplete minerals and food in the soil for other plants to consume.
There are countless issues that pose danger to the environmental health of the Earth, but one of the most often overlooked problems is food waste. Food waste contributes to droughts as well as other serious economic and climate ramifications. However, there are many things that can be done to resolve this pressing issue.
