In a time fraught with hot button issues, one that polarizes perhaps more than any other is that of abortion. Unfortunately, it is also an issue that is difficult to write about while remaining unbiased. Paul Stark’s “How Abortion Hurts Women” and Sarah Barnes’ “The Long Term Effects of Abortion on Women” both set out to prove that abortion has serious side effects on the affected party. Both Stark and Barnes cite several studies done in both America and abroad to support their claims, as well as, in Barnes case, offering their own insights on the matter. It seems that both authors purpose is to enlighten their audiences on the under-reported effects of abortion on women in order to spark a new conversation that doesn’t center around the unborn
The only terms used by the scientific community to refer to psychological pain of abortion are those associated with anxiety, depression or some corollaries of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Indeed, testing protocols and treatment of PTSD can be used only if the symptoms provide clear manifestations in a period close to the event. However, the manifestation of suffering of abortion is often part time, or even cannot come to the surface at the approach of its own death. Encysted psychological suffering will then wait for an event occur and strong for the person to make the connection between past events and the suffering of abortion. Some testimonials even mention the period immediately following

Abortion, for the vast majority of people is not a subject that is easy to talk about. According to the World Health Organization, out of the 211 million pregnancies, 46 million end up in abortion and 18 million of those abortions are done in what WHO considers unsafe conditions (World Health Report, 2007). Unsafe conditions are defined by WHO as, “ abortions performed by people lacking the necessary skills or in an environment lacking the minimal medical standards, or both” (World Health Report, 2007). The maternal death rate for women who have unsafe abortions is 350 out of 100,000, and there are other complications that are not fatal but can lead to disease or disability (World Health Report, 2007).
Over the years women have struggled with wanted and unwanted pregnancies. Planned parenthood and not ?planned parenthood? has become a choice for some women. Variables will come into affect for each of theses women and certain circumstances will effect their decision to have an abortion or not to have an abortion. The populations in the research are women from sixteen to twenty-nine with information including ethical dilemmas, society influence, religious backgrounds, health issues, sexual activity, substance abuse, rape, financial issues, family /relationship dynamics, long term implications with physical and mental affects and legal ramifications and acts will be covered in this paper. The research will have statistics, evidenced based facts and legal documented court decisions, physical and mental health issues with interventions. Plan for change will be a consideration to help with this topic of abortion.
Abortion is one of the most talked about topics in teenage pregnancies. When researching abortion, you find many different view points and ideas to the situation. Some of the more obvious view points are those that are well known such as pro-life and Pro-Choice. Although people have abortions they don’t understand the side affects that come along with them.
Seeing how high the number of abortion is, it is the job of a public health official to provide both women and men with the education and necessary resources to make decisions about their sexual behavior. In 2010, 18% of majority of pregnancies in our nation sadly ended in an abortion. Even though this study was on such a wide age range, the 20s have been found to consistently majority of the abortions. It is key to keep observing the adolescent pregnancies and abortion rate. In hopes that with the education and the resources help the influence of abortions to decrease. From Abortion Surveillance, public health officials are able to observe changes, evaluate pregnancy rates, analyze the effectives of local programs throughout the U.S. and be able to recognize the types of common characteristics in women who are getting
Abortion is a common debated topic in the United States. It is becoming commonplace in our society. Terminating an unwanted pregnancy is a difficult choice that many women have faced throughout the years. Through out this paper, reasons for abortion, women, underage girls, parental laws, emotions, and the procedures of terminating a pregnancy will be discussed. While there is still more research being done, it is said that abortion can have both negative and positive effects.

When a woman comes in for termination and is early, she is told to return at a later date. One woman reported that she sought out services early in her first trimester, but was told to come back later. She returned later at an aforementioned date for a sonogram but was passed around between multiple facilities before ending right back at where she started. There she was told that she could no longer have an abortion because she was too far along (Hajri, Raifman, Gerdts and Green Foster 2015, 7). Women were also denied terminations for health conditions such as diabetes, asthma and blood clot medication (Hajri, Raifman, Gerdts and Green Foster 2015, 8).The other woman who did not receive care because of potential blood clotting explained that

The risk of abortion can be very serious, and even deadly. Emotional and physical effects can occur. Some physical effects are; heavy bleeding, damage to the cervix, damage to other organs, and death. Emotional effects could result in depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and insomnia. With these side effects, mothers should evaluate and think long and hard before engaging in abortions. It is necessary to consider other options besides abortion for pregnant women who need help before making a decision. Abortion can hinder future reproductive success. It substantially increases the risk of subsequent preterm birth, which seriously threatens the lives and health of newborn children. The risk of premature delivery increases with each additional abortion. Abortion is also associated with an increased risk of infertility, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and placenta previa. Other long-term risks of abortion include breast, cervical and ovarian cancers. The connection between abortion and breast cancer is especially controversial. But it is clear that abortion can deprive a woman of the risk-reducing effect of a first full-term pregnancy. And physiological and epidemiological evidence indicate that abortion leaves a woman with more cancer-vulnerable breast tissue than if she had not become pregnant in the first
In this website they discuss the percentage of abortions that happen daily and monthly in the United States and the different methods that women use in order to get this procedure done. The purpose of the website is to create awareness and to stop the movement. The website was made by students that were concerned about the risks that abortion causes in short term as well as long term. They include a list of medical complications as well as emotional complications along the way. After the abortion is done, people are more likely to have higher risk of breast, ovarian and cervical cancer. The website is really useful since it provides statistical knowledge and common facts that many people are

There are religious and emotional objections to abortion as well as the possibility of negative medical and mental consequences. Many are in favor of making abortion illegal because, they feel it is immoral. Others believe that government should not have a say so in such a personal matter. Are there any other factors that could possibly change the way people view abortion? The matter of abortions negatively affecting the women who have the procedure done is one that the world has been dealing with for some time now. Researchers have decided to explore the idea that women who have had an abortion could possibly be at a higher risk for developing and even intensifying mental health issues. Researchers use various measures to determine if or how having an abortion effects woman. Measures include factors such as women who request an abortion but have not yet gone through with it, women who have gone through with the procedure, and women who have lost a child due to abortions or other ways. The following literature explains these
