For decades immigration has been a long-standing and often controversial economic issue surrounding governments. However more recently it has become the central theme engulfing debate on public policy. As a direct consequence, many academics, believe immigration to be the primary fuel for the rising support of populist movements, which have disrupted the fiscal landscape in many of the world's western economies (Betz, 1994).
