Nowadays, legalizing marijuana is considered a sensitive issue among societies and governments. Marijuana has become one of the most commonly used drugs all over the world. Some people suggest that it should be permissible, while others believe that it is hazardous and it should be prohibited. It is true that marijuana has a few positive effects that contribute in the medical field, but we cannot deny the fact that the majority of its effects are negative. Therefore, marijuana should be prohibited because of its effects on adolescent, the effects on brain health, and its effects on the physical health.
It is true that some studies suggest that cannabis, which is the plant from which marijuana is derived, has some positive impacts on certain illnesses. For instance, a laboratory study shows that THC, which is one of the compounds in the cannabis plant, may be useful for increasing appetite. Also, another study suggests that THC can contribute positively in treating glaucoma by reducing intraocular pressure. Furthermore, a study indicates that THC can be a pain relief to patients who suffer from multiple sclerosis. However, that does not mean that marijuana should be legal and all of these points are not sufficient for legalizing marijuana (Godandscience.org, 2015).
The first reason why marijuana should be prohibited is that it affects adolescents’
Marijuana can help a person in many ways an individual person cannot. There are doctors who recommend marijuana to people with medical disorders. “The National Eating Disorder Association acknowledged marijuana as a viable treatment option.” (Arielle Pardes) One of the many physical effects marijuana has on someone includes a huge increase of appetite. Not only is it a good solution for people with eating disorders, it is also good for people who suffer with insomnia. “Cannabis Sativa L. has been utilized for treatments of pain and sleep disorders since the ancient times.”(Ethan Russo) Therefore, smoking marijuana helps people get the help they need to face the problems that they are suffering with.
The use of medical cannabis seems to be extremely effective in treating a wide variety of neurological disorders Without the use of cannabis, the treatments of these disorders have to be altered to accommodate certain needs. Source C is a survey, statistic, conducted in California found that 92 percent of patients claim that medical marijuana worked for their specific issue. The results also found that a significant portion of people who used medical marijuana were for reasons that do not have effective alternative treatments, such as migraine headaches. Source E brings up that cannabis causes some of the same effects that other drugs have on the body, although there are not nearly as many long term effects that the drug has on the body, supporting Source C. The legalization of cannabis for medical use would allow these treatments to occur, and therefore allow more people around the country to have more functionable lives. The legalization of cannabis is not an extreme risk, but rather a positive influential decision for the better health of many in the American
Marijuana has been proven and tested to give a very positive impact on the American society for many different reasons. Marijuana is used for many different medical reasons. It helps people who have ADHD, crohn's disease, epilepsy, glaucoma, insomnia, arthritis, and even people with a lack of appetite. Marijuana is a harmless drug and needs to be legalized for medical use in all states.
Recently the drug policies and war on drugs has been increasingly seen in the headlines. Policies taken by the United States government against illegal drugs like marijuana are becoming apparent, and are coming into question. This has caused quite a controversy among supporters and opponents about legalization issues. Should marijuana be used as a medicine, as its advocates say? Or is it a dangerous drug of abuse that exposes users to brain damage and lung cancer? The debate over legalizing marijuana in all probability will continue for a long time, and it is a shame that this debate is so polarized. Marijuana produces long-term effects and damage on the brain. Although there have been reports of successful treatment in the use of marijuana as medicine, there appears to be more negative reasons why marijuana should not be used. Marijuana has been used for treatment of many diseases, some of which include cancer, post traumatic stress disorder, arthrosclerosis, digestive diseases, and HIV/AIDS. Despite the success for some medical issues, marijuana continues to be a “dangerous, addictive drug that poses significant health threats to users. Marijuana has no medical value that can't be met more effectively by legal drugs” ("U.S Drug Enforcement Administration"). The government and medical professionals should make it a point to emphasize the increasing problems of marijuana and its harmful effects on the body, as well as providing alternatives to
For years there has been a controversy over the legalization of marijuana. Marijuana is a drug made from the top of hemp plant. In the united state, it it classified as a narcotic drug that has been illegal. Since 1937.Unlike most narcotics through, It does not cause physical dependency or addiction. Intoxication may cause sedation, plesent tranquility, mood changes, and altered sense of time space, and body dimensions. Such effects are desired by many and condemned by others. The debate on legalizing marijuana for medical use is not just a simple pro/con debate. It is very complex issue that has many different approaches to it and in each of the approaches there are difference of opinion.
In America’s present-day society, it’s people are faced with the question of whether marijuana should be legalized or not. The issue brought with the legalization of cannabis is the fear that it is a gateway drug that will lead users to try other, harder drugs. More states have decided to legalize marijuana for medical or recreational use but not all agree with the decisions. There has been much research done to show the positive and negative effects of marijuana, itself, and the legalization of it; some concerns dealing with health, economic, and societal issues. Marijuana is a mixture of dried flowers of the Cannabis Sativa and may be consumed in many different forms. In a video made by ASAPScience called “ Your Brain on Drugs; Marijuana”, the speaker explains how the THC in marijuana is what creates the mind-altering effects on the brain, which considers it a “drug”, although it comes from a natural source. Some people are against the legalization of cannabis simply because it is considered a drug, which they may tend to stay away from in general. It is clear that both sides discussing the issue of whether marijuana should be legalized or not contain valid arguments, but there must also be a clear solution to what must happen.
The legalization of marijuana became a heated political subject in the last few years. Twenty-one states in America have legalized medical marijuana. Colorado and Washington are the only states where marijuana can be purchased recreationally. Marijuana is the high THC level part of the cannabis plant, which gives users the “high” feeling. There is ample evidence that supports the argument that marijuana is beneficial. The government should legalize marijuana recreationally for three main reasons. First, I will present two common arguments against the legalization of marijuana and then refute them. Second, I will explain how there is no proof of harmful effects from marijuana and that there are many health benefits prominent. Third, I will describe how legalization would bring in tax revenue for the government. Finally, I will go into detail on how legalization would decrease crime rates.
The argument of legalizing or prohibiting marijuana has been going on for very long time all over the world. In most countries, possession and use of marijuana is considered illegal. Today, some countries have legalized marijuana while other countries have not. In the United States, some states such as Washington and Colorado have also legalized the possession and usage of marijuana for medical and recreational purposes for adults. There are a number of advocacy groups that stand for its legalization for health related claims and also for a responsible recreational usage. On the other hand, various penalties are imposed for use or possession of marijuana in most countries. The use of marijuana is a very serious question as it always deals with the life of human being and its impact to our society. The risk of addiction, poor health and socio-economic problems associated with the use of marijuana are few of the many reasons why Marijuana should be illegal in United States or any other country in the world. Lots of research has been done to provide substantial scientific evidence as to why Marijuana use is harmful to oneself and to the society.
Marijuana is a well known drug that a lot of people have used either by smoking, or remedial way. There are many names use for it, such as weed, mary-jane and grass. Marijuana is one of the most debate and controversial issue; it has been an extensive debate with a valid argument in the United State today. Arguments for legalizing marijuana are not just an easy pros and cons argument in both national and local media. There have been growth rates of marijuana use among adults and youth in the United States, and this have made the headlines. There are different approaches and opinion to each arguments. There are three main arguments, the medicinal use, recreational, and the government enforcement. However, there are many positive points to support
Is cannabis dangerous? This particular issue has been discussed, contemplated, and argued in several settings throughout our country’s history, but it is a particularly prominent issue in today’s society. Many individuals have their own opinions on marijuana, whether it be positive or negative, but an objective perspective is necessary to justly weigh the benefits and detriments of marijuana use and legalization. When an unbiased person analyzes the controversial topic of cannabis, he or she would realize that the substance does not plainly fall into a single category. There is ample, scientific proof that marijuana has numerous medicinal purposes, such as treating glaucoma and different seizure disorders. However, there is equivalent
Based on biological research, statistics of drug use amongst children and youth and the health effects on regular users of marijuana, this paper will argue that marijuana should remain illegal in the United States for recreational use. Arguments for the legalization of marijuana and arguments against the legalization of the drug will be discussed throughout the paper. It will address the biological effects of the drug on the human body, the current laws in place and the effects it has on children, adolescents and adults.
Cannabis is widely known for its advantages on the improvement that it has on various diseases. It has been proven that marijuana can help/treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), arthritis, cancer, epilepsy, chronic pain, and depression, just to name a few. According to an article on CNN, patients with PTSD stated that there are way too many medications that they are obligated to take to help with their disorder and with this marijuana plant they have made much progress and seem to be more commencing on day-to-day life. Arthritis is when your joints begin to get inflamed and causes restraint which may make daily life more difficult, therefore many people use marijuana to reduce swelling of the joints and also reduce the over usage of opioids that can potentially be life threatening. Studies also show that cannabis has made a tremendous difference on cancer patients. Cancer can cause nausea, vomiting, fatigue and lack of hunger, THC (which causes the “high” feeling that everyone raves about) and CBD (interacts with the human body without giving you the “high”) are two components of pot which can be used to relieve the effects that cancer can have on a person. Along with many women in my family, my mother and aunt have used pot to help with their nausea, headaches, and their lack of hunger and has proven to them that it can help ease their pain after numerous chemotherapy treatments. There are many researches that have been made to assess the positive effect on pot and cancer. In 2007 there was a study done by the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco which stated that the use of CBD in marijuana can even help prevent cancer from spreading. Another disease that is widely known around the world is depression; marijuana has been used as a
In 2016, medical marijuana/cannabis has become one of the biggest problems and potentially medically revolutionary studies in the U.S. today. It’s being discussed by thousands of researches and scientist and it is also very controversial topics. Several studies has shown that it has a lot of medical benefits and should be fully legalize marijuana. Although, the many possibilities are endless, study has also shown that there is a very high potential for abuse especially amongst adolescences. Furthermore, this is the reason only some of our 51 states have legalized it
One reason marijuana should be legalized is because of the medical benefits it contains. Marijuana is not just used for pleasure it also aids in the treatment for many conditions. The marijuana plant has many chemicals but the more important ones are tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol (CBD). THC has the power to reduce pain and swelling. CBD does not give users the high feeling like THC does, and also reduces pain and swelling, and controls epileptic seizures and could possibly treat mental illnesses and addictions. I take cannabidiol oil to help control my epileptic seizures and it has been helping me a lot. It has reduced my seizures from once a month to once every three or four months, and I have grand mal seizures and they are not as severe because of CBD. CBD oil has helped many patients with epilepsy by reducing or completely getting rid of their seizures. I’ve also heard that it helps treat patients with cancer by aiding in the killing or reducing of the cancer cells. Marijuana has many powerful medical abilities that
If cannabis for medical use was passed as a law researchers would be more capable of doing studies to add onto the already numerous amounts of studies that they have done, but these new studies would open up the eyes to many negative or positive. What we do know is that studies have shown that medical marijuana reduces intraocular pressure in the eye, which slows the development of glaucoma. (Businessinsider.com) In another study done in 2007 medical marijuana, which contains cannabidiol, was once again able to slow down the advancement of the spread of cancer cells because the affect that this cannabidiol has on a certain gene (businessinsider.com). Once again due to a study completed by Kim Janda of the Scripps Research Institute in 2006, showed that the THC contained in marijuana slowed affects of plaque build up that destroy brain cells and cause the disease known as Alzheimer’s (businessinsider.com). These are only a few reports of the diseases that marijuana can have a positive affect on.
