Children are growing up with all this technology interfering with the children's childhood and health. Parents should limit screen time for their children two hours a day. Technology is over powering our world today. Parents shouldn't introduce technology to their children's life quite yet wait until the children are at least three or four years of age. The use of digital device during a young age can interfere with the child's health. If the children are exposed to digital devices when they are young they will have mental and health problems. Parents letting their young children's play with technology are risking their children's health. Laura Lewis Brown said “experts recommend waiting until your child is out of preschool,”(Brown). …show more content…
Therefore, the parents should talk to their young children so they can start developing the sounds we make when the parents talk to them. Too little communication can be bad for the children because the children won't expand their brain that much. “ Parents need to be models for their children. While we're all embracing these great aspects of this digital devices, parents have to strike a balance turn them off and spend time with their children,” says Kathleen Clarke Pearson. A young children will gain more stimulation when they are spoken to and read to rather than putting them in front of a TV show. Parents should monitor the children's screen time, so the children won't be watching things their parents don't approve of. Children can get bad behavior by the things they are exposed too on their digital devices. The internet is very big for a child to be roaming with no supervision and can be exposed to violent videos. While, the children are watching this videos they will probably catch some of the actions they are doing in the video and later on they will show them. However, there are some good shows and websites for young children to view so they can expand their brain and gain life skills. Also the parents can sit down with their children and their technology and go through some activities that they can do together to get that full development into the children's brain. whether, the parents set a limit to the
Modern Technology is good for the developing brain of a child. When using any modern technology like Ipad, Iphone, Ipod, laptop computer anything, when using these amazing their brains are constantly being used. Each icon they click each word they read each picture or color they see is all recorded in their brains. When a child is on a application, that child zooms in on the activity which causes a chain reaction to the brain keeping the brain active, and exercising. “The impact of heavy media and technology use on kids are social, emotional and cognitive development is only beginning to be studied, and the emergent results are serious.” This quote proves of my statement because it says that a child’s emotional and cognitive development are being affected by technology. There are a lot of brain exercises on the internet. Just for a kid going on the computer and seeing screen light up and reading the words to guide them to a activity is exercising because you’re using your brain to use the computer, and reading the word google or yahoo or even the startup menu.”Children now rely on technology for the majority of their play, grossly limiting challenges to their creativity and imaginations,
As our generations and technological world has vastly began to develop and expand rapidly, a repeated debate of whether technology use for young babies and children is beneficial or harmful to the physical and cognitive development of the child. As research has taken place to determine more answers around this topic, experts and parents from all different generations cast their opinion on the matter.
Screen time in high quantities can have negative health consequences for children, but are still used because of their positive effects. This assignment is relevant to Technological influences as schools and homes are now implementing electronic devices for learning and entertainment, using them for almost all aspects of life. Children are becoming addicted to them and parents are starting to give in to children throwing tantrums by giving them a device in order to prevent a scene. These devices are resulting in many developmental and health issues for children.
In the world of parenting, there are many guidelines, suggested strategies, and debated techniques attached to how a child should be raised. One of the most controversial today with advancing technology is the amount of screen time children should be exposed to, or if they should be exposed at all. Each side has a passionate attachment to their stance as well as statistics to back it up. However, the best position to have is to leave it up to the parents to decide.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends children under the age of two years have no screen time, with the exception of video chatting. Children younger than two benefit from a hands-on learning approach, therefore, introducing them to a digital device takes away time they need to be socially interactive to develop their cognitive, language, motor, and social-emotional skills. By the age of two, and through the preschool aged years it is recommended that children have no more than 1 ½ hours of screen time per week, and that screen time should be monitored to ensure it is educational as well as age appropriate. There are even television channels and computer applications that are dedicated to creating educational, engaging, and enjoyable content for such young viewers, however, it should be noted that
Technology has been part of our daily live more frequently than before. Screen time has been more popularly used on kids and adolescents. On a daily bases many kids seem to spend more time inside on their tablets, instead of having to spend time with other kids. This is a problem that is becoming more popular over the years,on whether kids need to spend that much time on technology or not. Parents either seem to have strict technology usage, or they either don’t. There has always been a huge controversy with experts, who either think that screen time is beneficial or could cause problems later on in life. There are many views towards this topic, from hurting kids brains, to helping them during school, and socially.
Statistics show that screen time negatively affects children’s learning abilities and development. “The effects of so much screen time can include speech delays, aggressive behavior and obesity.” (Lavey) Since parents play a role in how much television their kids can watch, they can minimize the chances of their brains not developing correctly. “The first 2 years of life are considered a critical time for brain development. TV and other electronic media can get in the way of exploring, playing, and interacting with parents and others, which encourages learning and healthy physical and social development.” (Kids Health) Children do
My research project was inspired by my love of children and the many times I have observed children using technology. From this experience I noticed many young children are extremely familiar with technology and the use of technology can have both positive and negative effects on them. As I have researched into this topic, I have learnt there are many beneficial and harmful implications of technological use for children. A finding I have come across on multiple occasions is children should not be using or be in contact with any technology whilst they are under the age of 2. A positive implication includes using technology for educational reasons as opposed to entertainment purposes. Using technology for entertainment or for long periods of time can negatively affect the child psychologically. A key point from my research has lead me to understand technology can have a huge impact on a child’s mental, physical and emotional health. (154 words)
Included below is a summary about the article titled “How Young is Too Young for Technology,” by Josie Gurney-Read, and published by Telegraph. This article talks about the positive and negative impacts when exposing young children to technology. First, Read opens up the article explaining that by the time children start school, 70% are already confident in using a laptop, tablet or smart phone. Read also notes, that 17% of children under the age of three have their own device. The article then discusses that the American Academy of Pediatrics says that children under the age of two should be discouraged from using technology and that preschool kids shouldn’t be using devices for more than two hours per day (Read). Professor Manfred Spitzer
Many studies and observations have been made on how technology can negatively affect a child’s physical health, mental health, emotional well-being, values, educational development and relationships. The results of these studies found technology exposure can be linked to childhood obesity, behavioral problems, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism, coordination disorder, unintelligible speech, developmental delays, learning difficulties, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, poor physical activity and poor school performance.
My cousin's wife Irina Olaru has a positive attitude about the internet use of their children, a girl of four years, and a boy of two and half years. Irina graduated Bethel University, in Minnesota, four years ago. She said to me that their children use a laptop and cellphones every day. Asking her how much time daily their children spend in front of a laptop or cell phone, she said more than two hours every day, which confirms above statistical data. Asking her what attitude they have, as parents about the computer use of their children at such young age, she explained that the internet gives many opportunities of learning and developing for their children. They do not want to ban computer use because they need a time when their children
Instead of completely keeping children from technology, parents should allow them to use it in the right way. Interactive games and applications can be a beneficial learning tool for children. Dan D. Young, the founder of VINCI and the creator of VINCI Blended Learning, explains how technology is beneficial for children in his article, “Technology can Stimulate the Infant Brain”, by pointing out that “when properly selected, these games get infants to slow down and think, thus making decisions and exercising the gears in their brains.” Technology will improve the way children think and process things if parents find the right applications instead of just letting the children play fun games that will not teach the child anything. Parents with
Today’s technology has greatly impacted the young children’s everyday lives. Phones, tablets, and computers are all a form of technology that impact the way kids are influenced. Some children get phones or computers at young ages and it can cause kids to depend on it to entertain them. Eventually they will allow the technology to take over and have it become the form of communication between friend and family instead of face to face. As parents continue to buy their children new technology they don’t monitor the amount of time their children spend on the Internet. Technology is becoming more advanced overtime which causes children to become more attached and unable to function without it near by.
Another harmful consequence of too much of screen time is that it damages overall development of a child. This is because of the intellectual, socialism and creativity . A mother would not be able to witness all these factors, if her child is glued to the monitor all day long .In " Your 2 Year Old: Motor, Cognitive, Verbal and Social Skills " Maureen Ryan (2016) writes that children's understanding at the age of two is increasing day by day. Parents need to Develop their child in a way as they grow up, children would be able to remember all the good times they have spent it together . But, if they don’t take care of their own child , the child would miss all the entertainment in life .
The second reason why modern technology contributes to negative health problems is that children independently use technology, which impact on their social development and relationship. As the age of the kids, the majority of them still cannot control or understand how to limit themselves from their wants. Some children spend so much time playing computer and video games all alone that they are losing their ability to socialize with others, families and friends. Children can averagely spend six hours each day watching television or
