After taking these two quizzes, I was really intrigued by the results because I have never really taken surveys like these and it was interesting to learn more about myself and political views. On the first quiz, which was the political compass, the results stated that I am more of a Liberal leftist. When looking at the results in comparison to different leaders, I noticed that I was placed closest to Nelson Mandela. Also, when I compared my results specifically to the candidates in the Presidential Election of 2016, I was farthest from Donald Trump and closest to Jill Stein. I think that I was pretty well matched on this quiz, but I don’t agree with some of the details. I believe that this was a good match because on the very first chart after taking the quiz, the people shown were Adolf Hitler, Margaret Thatcher, Milton Friedman, Joseph Stalin, and Mahatma Gandhi. On this chart, I was placed closest to Gandhi, who was a liberal leftist and believed in the supreme value of every individual, which is something that is extremely important to me. He also believed that peace was essential in life. Although I agree with him on this specifically, I don’t fully agree with absolutely no violence at all. Sometimes we need protection against other countries and attacks, etc. However, he fought hard to lead India to independence and he stimulated movements for freedom and civil rights in and across the world. I certainly agree that I should be placed closed to
Gandhi Gramsci and Garvey all created a new way of life for their respective group of followers, but the life style they supplied differed in that Gandhi left room and encouraged the mix between British and Indian, Garvey worked to create a division between black people and white people, and Gramsci, whom dealt more with the class barrier then race segregation, argued that all men were important to society and wanted recognition for the lower classed who he felt were crucial to the running of a nation. To each movement the structure and character instilled in their lives became a necessity for daily life, creating loyalty which replaced disorientation and class disarray. Mohandas Gandhi, Antonio Gramsci and Marcus Garvey were able to
I’ve never really thought or cared about where I stand in politics, but after taking the two surveys the results were pretty interesting. I was able to see where I stand in politics, and find it agreeable to my own personal beliefs
Striking similarities can be drawn when looking at the fictitious government of Oceania in George Orwell’s 1984 and Joseph Stalin’s Soviet Republic. When looking at the way Stalin ran his regime, as well as the effect it had on the citizens of the nation, it’s clear to see that Orwell may have drawn inspiration from Stalin’s Soviet Union when designing the fictitious Oceania. The quality of living in the Soviet Union at the time was almost identical to that portrayed in 1984. The division of wealth among the people of Oceania also seemed inspired by life in Stalin’s Soviet Union. Most strikingly similar though was the lack of freedoms and rights in 1984 and in Stalin’s Soviet Union.
The 1980 presidential election of the United States featured three primary candidates, Republican Ronald Reagan, Democrat Jimmy Carter and liberal Republican John Anderson. Ronald Reagan was the governor of California before he decided to run for the presidency. John Anderson was a representative in Illinois and Carter was the incumbent. The lengthy Iran hostage crisis sharpened public opinions by the beginning of the election season. In the 1970s, the United States were experiencing a straining episode of low economic growth, high price increases and interest rates and an irregular energy crisis. The sense of discomfort in both domestic and foreign affairs in the nation were heading downward, this added to the downward spiral that was already going on. Between Carter, Anderson and Reagan, the general election campaign of the 1980s seemed more concerned with shadowboxing around political issues rather than a serious discussion of the issues that concerned voters.
I noticed that while taking this Political Compass test most of my answers were either agree or disagree, very few questions I answered with strongly agree/disagree. For that reason, I believed that my results were more inclined to be on the non-ideological side since my answers were not radical. According to the test, I fall under the Green section that represents the modern liberal and progressive party; however, diagonally I am around three boxes from the center of the graph. In other words, I would be considered non-ideological since I am closer to the middle of the graph rather than on an extreme side of the political compass. Although my results were bit towards the lower left side, I found it accurate to consider myself non-ideological. I am still in the process of learning about economic and social dimensions thus it is too early to label myself especially as a college student.
According to the Pew Research Center, partisan polarization has been an issue for many Americans for a long period of time. Meaning, that those Americans are not in complete agreement with either republican or democratic parties, their ideas, and standards. In response, the Pew Research Center made an anonymous survey in an attempt to find and categorize people’s typology. If one were to take the quiz, their answers would create the their new typology and show how it may correspond with either partisan parties. When I took the Pew Research Center quiz, I found out that I am in the Faith and Family Left typology category. I agree with my given typology to a certain extent. Due to the limited number of answers of the quiz and the way questions were worded, it forced me to make uncomfortable choices, which weakened my ability to agree with my results. Although, the quiz did include all government issues and involvements, I think the most prominent issue is foreign involvement, specifically, the Islamic State in which the government will have to become more active and continue to be involved in with the Islamic State.
The elections of 1948, and 2004 had many similarities. In both elections we had the two major political parties, plus a third independent party. We had a war going on, polls trying to predict the election, and two main candidates working on getting elected. The elections did have some differences though. Money spent, mediums campaigned through, and the number of votes for the third party. Despite the differences, there was one main similarity that stood out between the two elections, the type of rhetoric used to sway votes from both sides.
Next, I would identify myself as a Democratic, as well as thirty-two percent of the rest of the nation. I believed my party identification of being a Democratic was formed by the influence of my family. Since all over my family is Democratic I grow-up believing in certain Democratic characteristic such as be liberal, equal rights for men and woman especially when it deals with wages and educations, also in pro-choice. I believe my party identification is strong, however since I’m older I think I base my identity on what political candidate or politician has the values that are aligned for my best interests; meaning they are subject to change know that I understand politicas more. Based off the results from the poll I would
Democrats versus Republicans face off once again in the year of 1960. The election of 1960 was a nasty election that broke the bond between two friends. John Fitzgerald Kennedy and Richard Milhous Nixon were the main two candidates in the election. With both candidates having political experience, anyone of them could become the 35th President of the United States.
Some of them I felt were truly accurate, and some of the others showed me characteristics of myself I’ve never realized that I am, like a very defiant individual because on two out of the three we took it seemed I couldn’t really be put into a certain category. The Myers-Briggs test was the only one exception because it had you definitely put into one, single group. My result was that I had the Advocate personality, in the Diplomatic arena. It said I was, “a very rare category, making up less than one percent of the population, but that they nonetheless leave their mark on the world. As members of the Diplomat Role group, Advocates have an inborn sense of idealism and morality, but what sets them apart is that they are not idle dreamers, but people capable of taking concrete steps to realize their goals and make a lasting, positive impact. And though soft-spoken, they have very strong opinions and will fight tirelessly for an idea they believe in.” Which I believe is pretty spot on for me, though I would have never been able to come up with that description of
According to the “I Side With” quiz I am extremely liberal and 98% of my opinions align with Bernie Sanders. This was not a surprise. I’ve always known that my views are very left wing and Bernie Sanders is my favorite candidate. Some of my foreign policy opinions (such as decreasing military spending and closing Guantanamo Bay) aligned with Rand Paul which was surprising. I was not educated enough on some of the issues to answer them accurately, which is something that I need to work on.
You might think Who is Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan and why are they important? Well, Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan were important leaders and left a legacy because they both ended the Cold War without even hurting a person or shooting one single bullet. For the election of the President of the United States of America there should be an option of “No-Confidence” or “None of the Above” as a selection on the ballot because the voters should have the right to indicate that the listed candidates are unacceptable, then the National parties should find and present new candidates that are more acceptable to the American public if neither can win a majority vote.
Yes, for the first test it shows that on “The World’s Smallest Political Quiz” that I am a Centrist Conservative person that prefers a middle ground regarding government control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on the issues, I sometimes favor government intervention and sometimes support individual freedom of choice, depending on the issue. A person who has been labeled as a Centrist prides themselves on keeping an open mind and tends to oppose political extremes. I also pride myself on practical solutions to problems. This is what I have been labeled as on my first test and I totally agree with everything it has said. I do this with every problem that I encounter in my life. I try to always be neutral and not judgmental about
Overall, I was not surprised that my scores varied depending upon the specific category. I grew up in a household that mainly revolved around school and physically activities including sports so I was expecting to score higher on these two categories. This survey accurately represents what aspects of health that I focus on the most. I was surprised to see that my social health was the highest category because I am usually a quiet person but I have tried to talk more with people since coming to college. My family was never very spiritual or religious so I was expecting my spiritual health score to be lower than all the other categories. This survey is an accurate representation of my overall wellness because the scores matched my expectations.
