The Fall of the Berlin Wall Berlin Marcelin Chattahoochee Technical College The Berlin Wall is a historical symbol of the Cold War and the fall of the Berlin Wall is a symbol of the end of the Cold War. And also, the Berlin Wall played a great role in the life of millions of people and defined the fate of German people, which put them apart by the Wall for a long period of time. Sixteen years after the end of World War II, the communist government of East Germany began building a wall on (August 13, 1961), that would divide the city of Berlin into East Berlin and West Berlin. The purpose was to keep fascists from entering East Germany, but mostly to keep West German citizens, primarily people of valuable professions such as doctors, teachers and engineers, from Changing side to the West. People of Berlin Called the wall Schandmaur, which actually means " The wall of shame". Over the years of the wall being constructed it took at least 3x times to rebuild it, but each time bigger than the last one. The end of World War II in 1945 had Germany Divided Four Allied occupation zones. The eastern part of the country went to the Soviet Union, and the western part goes to the United States, Great Britain and France. Each section was under the control of a different country. The United States, Britain, and France each joined their sections to form a democratic state on May 24,

Many of the population of East Germany, fled to the other side of the country being West Germany.
THESIS: From research and historical analysts, we can conclude that in many cases the people of Germany have been effected socially and economically by the building and construction of the Berlin Wall.
The Berlin Wall was a tangible symbol of the suppression of human rights by the Eastern bloc during the Cold War and was anti-fascist protection. It blocked West Berlin and East Berlin. The wall blocked to stop young educated people from the East,so that they can be in the more prosperous side.
The Berlin Wall, a heavily monitored and weaponized barrier between eastern and western Berlin that was built by the communist controlled east Germany on August 13th 1961. The Berlin Wall was an important symbol of Germanys development after the war which can be seen through the motives behind its construction, the effect this split had on Germany, and its demolition on November 9th 1989. A symbol of the separation between democratic and communist powers, the Berlin Wall would prove to be a product of the tensions between these two ideologies and the source of grief in a separated Germany.
The Berlin Wall had a major impact on humanity’s views on how society should be ruled. Berlin is the capital of Germany. After the ending of WWII, Berlin was split up into East Berlin, and West Berlin. East Berlin was communist, suffered from the repressions of the Communist Party. West Berlin had a better lifestyle, and had financial aid from the United States. From the years between nineteen forty-nine to nineteen sixty-one, approximately 2.5 million people from East Berlin escaped to West Berlin. This toll included skilled workers, professionals, and intellectuals. Because of the loss of these people, the economy in East Berlin was threatened. On August twelve-thirteen, nineteen sixty-one, the Berlin was built in order to stop the people of East Berlin from fleeing. The Berlin wall was a major point during the Cold War, and many opposed it. It gave another reason to detest communism.
The Berlin Wall was a symbol of division between two different political beliefs and two different ways of life. The population during this time was about 3.4 million. This started the Cold War and ended it. Just because of one mans (Nikita Khrushchev) approval to raise the wall; the citizens of Germany were forced to live twenty- eighty years without freedom. Berlin Wall also known as the “Iron Curtain” was ninety six miles long and twelve feet high. The Berlin Wall erected in the dead of night. Just past midnight, while Berliner’s were sleeping, crews of soldiers tore up the streets dug holes to set up concrete posts and fixed up barbed wire on top. Telephone wires were cut off between the wall. The Berlin Wall had very few openings. For example, the main access opening was called “Checkpoint Charlie”. It was used for allies personal and westerners to cross the border. It was decided during World War II when Germany lost, that Berlin was to be divided between America, France, and Great Britain. The Soviet Union started the war and wanted to spread communism around Eastern Europe and West Germany did not want that. This turning point was a physical symbol of the Cold War.
Sixteen years after the end of World War II, the countries that fought on the allies side began clinging to the left overs of Nazi Germany. The victors of World War II, The United States, The United Kingdom, France and the Soviet Union divided Germany into four sectors. The U.S.A, England and France were all democratic, capitalist countries, while the Soviet Union was a communist country. While the capitalist countries all shared common believes and ideas, the Soviet Union wanted nothing to
The years following the fall of the Berlin wall brought Germany closer together as one country. The east side of Berlin was communist, whereas the west side was socialist/democratic. The Berlin wall was often referred to as a symbol of the cold war and the inner conflict of Germany. It showed the different ideologies of the USA and USSR and their systems of government. Officially known as the “Anti-Fascist-Protective Wall” by the east, and the “Wall of Shame” by the West, it physically divided the city of Berlin from August 13, 1961 to November 9, 1989. The fall of the Berlin Wall was beneficial for the economies of Germany and the US.
The Berlin Wall symbolized many things for different people. For the Germans it served as their punishment from World War II, this punishment divided up their country and separated many people from their families who might have lived in different parts of Germany. Everyday things that were accessible to them like going to the grocery store or visiting family members were now made harder since in order to cross to the other side of the wall people would have to go through security checks. The Wall also represented death because if someone were to try to escape to the other side of the wall they would be shot dead. To other countries the Berlin Wall represented communism as well as division between two different forms of government. During
The statement that ‘the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 can be seen as the main catalyst of communist domination in Eastern Europe and later the world can be regarded as accurate. In this essay the reasons for the building of the Berlin wall such as the fact that the USSR desired to secure domination in Eastern Europe after the events of the Berlin airlift and later the sense of victory and power that the wall brought among the communists, will be discussed. Secondly the events leading up to the fall of the Berlin will be viewed. These events included the economic decay of the communist state and the new policies that were brought about by Mikhail Gorbachev which replaced the old Brezhnev doctrine. Finally the events after the fall of the Berlin wall will be viewed. These events include the changes in Hungary, Czechoslovakia and the Baltic states. The rapid changes in the communists stated can be considered as the after effects of the fall of the Berlin wall. The Berlin wall was a symbolic boundary between communism and capitalism as well as a barrier and physical division between the East and the West. The fall of the wall can therefore be considered as an end in communism as the barrier had been removed. Using the specified sources it will therefore be viewed how
With the Containment of communism mostly all failed but the Berlin Wall was successful. At the end of WWII Germany was divided into four different zones. The Soviet Union, France, Great Britain, and the United States all shared Germany including the capital Berlin. The Soviets controlled East Berlin while France, Great Britain, and the United States all controlled West Berlin. At first all was well. Everyone lived peacefully until 1961 when the Berlin Wall was built. Sometimes referred to as the ‘Iron Curtain’ the Berlin Wall was made to keep the communist side of Germany away from capitalism so that the Soviet Union could stay incontrol. But in doing this West Berlin began to suffer. President Truman came up with the Marshall Plan doing
In November 1989, the lives of almost half a billion people throughout Eastern and parts of Western Europe drastically and completely changed. This month marked the beginning of the two-year demolition of the “Iron Curtain” that descended across the continent and the thawing of the Cold War that waged between the world’s two rival superpowers. The fall of the Berlin Wall not only marked the reunification of Germany after 28 years but, also, the reunification of all of Europe after almost three entire, long decades. Out of the nine original countries that comprised the Eastern bloc and were effectively separated from the Western world by the “Iron Curtain,” all but one later sought membership in the European Union. Since
After World War 2, the Allies tried to think of the best way to keep Germany peaceful. As a result, they declared that Germany would be split in two, creating West and East Germany. This also concluded that their capital city, Berlin would be too. West Germany was ruled by the Allies (Britain, France and USA) their political system was then democratic. The East side of Germany was turned into communists. After the two sides started to clash, the East suddenly built a wall separating Berlin in two. After affecting the civilians lives, German society took a stand in 1989 and tore the wall down.
Along with the separate and much longer inner German border, the Berlin Wall became to symbolize a physical marker of the Iron Curtain that separated Western Europe and the Eastern Bloc during the Cold War. The Berlin Wall was the guarded concrete barrier that physically and ideologically divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989. The wall was constructed by the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was communist, and it cut off West Berlin from surrounding East Germany and from East Berlin, who wasn't communist. They started building the wall on 13th of August 1961. The barrier was a large concrete wall with guard towers along it.
The Berlin Wall, built in August of 1961, was s physical symbol of the political and emotional divisions of Germany.
