On November 3rd of 2016 I went to listen to Bela Fleck and The Flecktones live at the Quick. The style of music that they play is called jazz fusion and I have even heard of this type of music, so I was interested to see how I would like it. The Flecktones have a variety of different instruments so I thought that would be a cool twist. Some guys that make up the band are of course Bela Fleck, Jeff Coffin, Future Man, Victor Wooten, and many more. The way they set up the stage was unique. They had different colored carpets on the ground and the band was pretty much scattered all over the stage.
The first song they played was Earth Jam. Everybody slowly was coming together and played. One thing that caught my eye first was the weird banjo and what looked like a guitar but it was the drums. The music kept getting gradually louder and faster. Then all the sudden they change to a whole different rhythm. I was a little thrown back when the guy on bass started making weird sounds into the microphone. It was a little creepy and I was glad that it did not last the whole song. The audience at this point is still just sitting there and watching them. It was different

This is where I wonder how they get the names from their songs since there is no words. Anyways it started out with Future Man playing two drums at once and there was some type of chanting in the background. One of the drums he was playing just looked like a box and the drum sticks he was using looked like little feather dusters. When the music got faster he started playing all three drums at once. At this point the audience is bopping their heads. Future Man starts going crazy and it does not sound good at all. It honestly sounds like someone that has never played the drums a day in their life. I was really glad that this was a short song because I don’t know how much longer I could have listened to that. I would not recommend anybody to ever listen to that
Although I enjoyed the concert, it was very different than how I normally think of jazz. It sounded as if they're playing could've been improvisatory. Although I know that's not the case, at many parts it felt like there were three musicians playing separate pieces that didn't go together. It felt very free, and possibly purposely made to be unique. As they announced titles, they would indicate where the song comes from. Sometimes, they would indicate one of their band members and sometimes it would their version of someone else's song, such as their song “The Robots.” You can see the personalities of the musicians as they play and in their songs. The drummer, Dave King, wrote one of their songs “Keep the Bugs Off Your Glass and The Bears Off Your Ass” and was the most freestyle player. He seemed to have fun, and looked like he was completely free as he played. After relistening to the songs at a later point, I can confirm that not just his playing, but the entire song wasn’t exactly the same, which leads me to believe they do a lot of freestyle typical in jazz. Specifically, Dave King was very humorous throughout the concert. He would tell jokes the entire time between songs, and told a story about his big dream to give out ice cream at their concerts one day. Out of all of them, his personality and playing shined out the most. The performance showed clear elements of jazz and popular music as they played, using syncopation, freestyle, and melodies to musically communicate with the
Just like the detectives, readers need to know the clues that are found so they can come up with their own ideas about the mysteries. If the clues are made available it allows the readers to get themselves involved with the investigations and helps them solve the mystery on their own. It allows the readers to have the same opportunity as the detectives to solve the mystery.
Jason’s opening song was the song, “Just Gettn’ Started”. I could tell how popular it was by the way the crowd came alive when the guitar played its first few notes. I thought this was a very appropriate opener that really set the mood for the rest of the concert. It was an upbeat tune that had everyone putting their hands in the air and singing along. I saw this song as an anthem for the weekend when you’re getting ready to go out and have fun. This song struck me as something with very strong rock roots. The electric guitar was prominent with the edgy sound of Jason’s voice to complement the songs rock
On November 17th, 2016, I attended a jazz concert and had quite a time. The experience was captivating, and gave me a warm feeling inside. There were three different bands that play in the hour slot, and all of them sounded magnificent, but “The Santé Fe Jazz Combo” and “Santa Fe Big Band” stood out the most. The only thing these two bands have in common is that some of the musicians play in both bands. Otherwise, these jazz fanatics are polar opposites.
the first band took the stage. The first band was my favorite of the three, Fuel. Fuel made
The first song that the band played was very soft and relaxing. The string bass was the lead of the first song and played a flat four rhythm, and the rest of the band
The band played songs about pollution and the
The last song on the set list was called “Talk About It”. The texture was very thick because all the instruments were playing over
In the short story The Adventure of the Speckled Band written by Arthur Conan Doyle, the main character, Holmes, makes a statement saying that “doctors make the greatest criminals.” Holmes was correct when saying that statement for several reasons. Doctors know how to use poison and medicines, know vital areas of the body, and are perfectionists.
“The Adventure of the Speckled Band”, composed by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle discloses the conundrum of Helen Stoner’s inquiry. In the year 1883 of April, Helen Stoner visits Sherlock Holmes as she felt trepidation of her impending wedding. Helen questions her twin sister, Julia’s death as she starts hearing the low whistles at night her sister claimed to her as well. The urgency of Helen Stoner awakens Holmes and Dr. Watson. Intensively, Holmes was hearkening to Helen Stoner’s account as he transpired to be intrigued by the case. In one residence, Helen resided with Dr.Grimesby Roylott, a barbarous human. Before Julia Stoner’s death, she dwelled with the pugnacious man like Helen; Julia passed away in the Roylott residence. Though Julia’s death
The story The Adventure of the Speckled Band by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is one of the Sherlock Holmes short stories. In this short story a young bride to be Helen shows up at Holmes office. She is panicked and in fear that her step father is trying to murder her, just like he had murdered her sister before she got married. Although there was no evidence he had, Helen is experiencing the same things her sister had told her she had before she died. Helen’s step father Sir Grimesby Roylott is an odd man and doctor that many fear. He keeps strange company at the estate; He befriends a band of Gypsies on the property and keeps a cheetah and a baboon as pets. Holmes had agreed to take Helen’s case after she had told him everything and investigated. At the end of the story the truth comes out that indeed the doctor was Helen’s sister’s murder. Holmes concludes that "doctors make the greatest criminals”. Doctors know different medications and poisons that could be used to kill somebody. They also know the human body and how it works. Leaving them with multiple ways to cause harm to people. Lastly, doctors are trusted and respected because they are supposed to save lives not murder.
The coolest part of going to live stick sessions to me is as yet observing all these diverse performers interact and play with each other. Despite everything, it astounds me how if you know a group of songs and artists you can play with anybody. This collaboration is so flawless for me to see since it doesn't make a difference how old you are, what race you are or where you are from. The only thing that is in any way important is you know this general gathering of songs, which permits you to play with whatever other jazz performers you run over. This part of the jazz sessions has been without a doubt the most pleasant on the grounds that this is something you don't hear or see when simply listening to a jazz CD; you need to go see it
At 00:00, the song begins with a strong drum line. It is harsh and sudden as though it is meant to surprise the listener rather than a softer intro. It is meant to get the listeners’ attention as well as to put them in the same mindset as the band. As the song continues, other instruments are added and as the singing starts, the drums almost fade entirely. Their importance moved from attention-grabbing to merely creating
On Thursday April 25, 2013 , I attended a jazz vocal concert at the Music Concert Hall. The first vocal ensemble opened up the performance with a slow rhythmic song called Blue Skies. It began with vocals and I noticed a light auxiliary percussion and drum rhythm. Also, the bass guitarist used walking bass and the piano and electric guitar joined in as well. The first song also consisted of two soloist Regina and Chantel who took the front stage to show off their chops. After the solo performances they fell back into the vocal sections and finished off the song as a complete band. The second performance had a piano opening which led to vocals joining in at the same time as the rhythm section. This performance
