“Use your gifts to give a gift to others,” this is a quote by an unknown author giving the reader a message to say our gifts help others pursue their gifts. In the book The Odyssey by Homer Odysseus shows his gift of braveness and intelligence.
Odysseus can be viewed as brave throughout the story because of many acts of courage he shows. Odysseus has showed us that even in tough times like the time he was trapped in the Cyclops's cave, Odysseus can still show his leadership skills. Successfully leading his team out of the cave Odysseus is also shown other leadership skills. Odysseus has shown that even in tough times he can still prevail and make a decision to help benefit the team. While on the ocean Odysseus made a decision others may not
Odysseus was a great leader and hero throughout the story in many examples as I have listed below. My first example is when Odysseus was able to make a spear when he was in Polyphemus's cave. He then took the spear and drove it through the eye of the beast, blinding him. The cyclops then moved the boulder and the men escaped by hiding under sheep. This example shows that O. is a hero because he is daring. If the cyclops was to find any of them or he had missed and woken him then this surely would have meant death for them. The second reason is in book twelve when O. must pass the sirens. To do so he slabs beeswax on the ears of his shipmates. This will make it so them can not be lured into the captivity of the sirens. O. then lashes himself
Odysseus shows courage because he helped his crew get away from the blinded cyclops by tying them under the cyclops’ sheep and he warned his men not to eat the Lotus leaves, so they would not lose their memory and not want to return home.
During Odysseus’s journey in The Odyssey, his own guile, the gods’ obstacles and their assistance for him affected his destiny. Odysseus uses his crafty sense of trickery and guile to get out of situations, which allow him to reach his destiny of returning home. Many times in The Odyssey the gods who dislike Odysseus set obstacles to try to stop him from returning home. However, there are gods who favor him and give him assistance to reach his homeland of Ithaca.
Odysseus is a hero because he acts courageously while facing the many challenges he encounters. Odysseus’s shows great bravery when he engages in physical challenges. Odysseus daringly fights against the suitors, while significantly outnumbered: “For I must
Bravery was probably one of the traits Odysseus was known for best. Without his bravery, the story most-likely wouldn't have been as exciting and suspenseful as it was. One of the situations that displayed this trait was when they landed on the
Who we are depends on how we react to major events in our lives. Our character traits build off of these experiences, too. In The Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus shows many traits while he travels on this adventure. Some of these include cleverness, leadership, and self-restraint.
In The Odyssey Odysseus stands up for his men who are traveling to war with him when Athena accuses them of not displaying much talent. It would be difficult for Odysseus to stand up for his men while talking to a goddess. However, he handles himself very wisely explaining to Athena the positive qualities in each of his men. In The Odyssey after Poseidon grows angry with Odysseus telling him he will suffer, it only makes Odysseus determination in himself increase. A hero is one who never gives up, so one major character traits they should obtain is determination Although Odysseus is beaten down by the god of the sea it does not decrease his determination. During the journey back from the war in The Odyssey after Poseidon has warned Odysseus that he will not make it home Odysseus not only works well with his men, but also is very self reliant. Self reliance is a huge part of becoming a hero because you have to be prepared at all times if something was to happen to your acquaintances, you need to have the confidence to fulfil your goal.
Odysseus is the main character in an epic poem called the Odyssey. In the poem Odysseus has had some bad luck getting home, with some of the gods helping him and some hindering him; his journey towards home is a constant struggle. In this poem we see a man being broke and rebuilt, through constant irony his faith was damaged and without the help of Athena he probably would have given up on his journey. Through his hard work and wise spirit he finally does achieve his goal.
Are people judged solely based off their actions or does their intent matter too? If someone did what they thought was best, but the result was less than perfect does that mean they are a bad person? Throughout the Odyssey by Homer, Odysseus has to make many decisions during his twenty years away from home and when he returns to Ithaca. Some of his decisions do not have the best end result but Odysseus always believes he is making the right choice. Even though Odysseus thinks more of himself than others and the consequences of his actions, he always does what he believes is best in a situation and remembers those he loves most which makes him a good man.
Many people could’ve done what Odysseus did and even could’ve done it better, faster, and easier. Some may believe that Odysseus is courageous. He demonstrates this courage when he steps up to fight the Cyclopes, or even when he was willing to travel to the underworld to save his men (pg. 397, lines 163-165). Although this example shows some courage, Odysseus obviously fears the gods and how they change the outcome of everything ( pg. 402, lines 35-40). Another quality that opponents believe Odysseus has is determination.
Odysseus is a courageous leader because he saves his crew in combat many times. One way Odysseus shows he is a courageous leader is by proving his worth in combat. Odysseus is obviously a good fighter because he survived the Trojan War, if he had not have been a
In Book 9 of The Odyssey by Homer, the continuing adventures are told of Odysseus and his men on their ten-year journey home. On this journey however, Odysseus and his men are put in a position to face death on multiple occasions because of Odysseus’ poor decision making. To start off with, Odysseus’ first bad decision occurred when he decided to sack the city of Ismarus and then stay to party. This caused the Cicones to build up their army and begin killing Odysseus’ men. As Odysseus stated, “Out of each ship, six men-at-arms killed”(9.69). As a result of this, people will have to mourn over their deaths. Furthermore, Odysseus’ army has become smaller, raising their vulnerability. Moving on, Odysseus’s most idiotic and dangerous decision was
“ Sing in me, Muse, and through me tell the story of that man skilled in all ways of contending, the wanderer, harried for years on end, after he plundered the stronghold on the proud height of Troy.” (Homer page 751 lines: 0-4) That was an opening prayer from The Odyssey. The Odyssey is about a 20 year-long travel of a man named Odysseus. He traveled to Troy facing the dangers on many mythical creatures and many fictional creatures. This king of Ithaca, left his beloved wife, Penelope, and his son, Telemachus, that he has not seen since his son was a young child. Odysseus expresses his traits, that helps him survive the obstacles he faces. Odysseus’ traits are bravery, curiosity, and intelligence.
Odysseus is a wonderful leader to his men. He leads his men in the trojan war with a victorious win. Odysseus shows leadership by defeating the cyclops Polyphemus. Odysseus also comes home and shows that he is in charge by killing all the men in his house. Threw out the Odyssey, Odysseus faces a lot of challenges that only a good leader could complete. He finds a way out Scylla, circe, calypso and the sirens but of course with the help of the Gods.
In conclusion Odysseus is one brave and courageous hero. Without him, his men probably would have lost hope or given up on escaping from the cave. It was Odysseus who thought of the plan to get out. Odysseus, who gave his men the battle talk and told them not to quit now. Odysseus also showed his bravery when he thought of using the Cyclops’s rams to get out. He knew it would be dangerous and they might get caught but he was willing to risk it just to escape. With his bravery and cunning skills,
