The French Revolution was a time period that helped shape our present day society. It gave the people the rights that they wanted throughout the French Revolution, as well as a better constitutional government. The French Revolution was a success because of all the ideas that have been influenced from it. Although it may have not been successful in the beginning, it has benefited everyone till this day.
Throughout the French Revolution the people fought for their equality amongst each other. They got the rights of life, liberty, equality, protection and resistance of oppression. The Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen was a document that proclaimed the equality of men and the sovereignty of the people which gave the rights and duties of a citizen. During Napoleon’s rule he not only contributed to France but to the French Revolution. Napoleon had got rid of all the financial problems that Louis XVI caused. He also gave the people the right of equal voting and taxation. As well as the right of having the same education. He created the napoleonic code, known as well as the civil code, which gave all men the equality before the law. Although men got equality, women didn’t have the same equality a man did. “The wife is obliged to live with her husband, and to follow him to every place where he may judge it convenient to reside: the husband is obliged to receive her, and to furnish her with everything necessary for the wants of life, according to his means and station.” (Napoleonic Code), meant that for women it was a step back because in their time women were below men.
