Community service is vital to society. As shown from the word “community” itself, local service unites us all in an increasingly divisive nation. The people helped are not the only ones to feel the effects of community service. Volunteers also feel like they make a difference, because they do. Service is a way to change the atmosphere of a community, no matter how turbulent it may be. It makes citizens feel optimistic for the future and tells them that change is coming. I have had the opportunity to help out people in my town through several organizations in many instances. One place that I have spent hours volunteering, both in recent years and when I was younger, is the Gatesway Foundation. It is a non-profit organization that helps people
I have many experiences with community service since I am very passionate about helping people and the less unfortunate. I have volunteered in many activities to help my community, for example, Eagle Scream Fest, Dia del Nino, Closet to Closet, Multicultural night and the best one Food for Families. Food for Families is a non-profit organization that distributes free food twice a month. I have been involved with this organization since the beginning which has been two years. I love volunteering with the organization because I am able to see the difference that is making to
What does community service means to me? Well, to me community service mean helping your community become a better place. When you do things for your neighborhood, it makes you feel like a better person. There are all sorts of activities you can do in your community. You can work with children at school, work with the elderly, or help people that are less fortunate and make their day very special. Community Service is very important because it gives you a chance to bond with the people in your neighborhood. It will also give you a chance to give back to your community , you’ll learn a lot from your experience, and you’ll make a difference in someone’s life. I recommend a lot of people to go out and make a difference.
The acts of community service I have participated in FBLA has taught and strengthen my belief that charity is the most important gestures any person can due to have a beneficial impact in the world; is to help a person in need. For instances, our organization has collected Christmas gifts for underprivileged children in the Henry County community each year and the act of giving a child without access to toys for the holidays something as simple as a toy car has brought the greatest
In this regard, the most important part of service to me personally is giving back to the community. Volunteering is my way of providing service to others, it is not only effective, but it’s a good way to meet people, to learn, and to develop social skills. By helping or supporting others, I learned and used new skills in communicating with people and I have gained confidence in myself through different interactions. Providing aid to a family in need or helping out an elementary teacher is necessary, because as people it should be our natural tendencies to support one another, and bring aid when aid is due. For example, at Seven Lakes High school I created the Girls for Krause Club. It was given the name the Girls for Krause club after the Krause Center; a center in Katy that fosters girls who have been taken out of their homes due to sexual harassment, parental mistreatment or mental issues. My first visit to the Krause Center was with my youth group at church. I was so touched by all the girls at the center, and how open they were about their situation. I remember one of the girls telling me thank you, for treating her like “a regular person.” This interaction gave me the incentive to create the Krause club, because I wanted to allow other girls my age to interact with these girls and bring attention to a center that wasn’t well known in my community. Moreover, creating the Krause club has been rewarding and a way to showcase
The reason that I believe that volunteer work and work in general is vital to success in the today’s world and society is because the generation that I am apart of is lack of a better term lazy. The motto of the entitled generation is procrastination is key. The most important part in forming a generation comes from the parents. The outcome of a generation’s attitude always leads back to the source (the parents). Volunteer work in present time is very important for the youth, but is equally as important for adults too. Some local organizations in Juneau are Love Incorporation, Helping Hands-Healing Hands LLC, Saint Vincent De Paul, and Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC). It is a non profit organization that provides health care for residents of Southeast Alaska. Saint Vincent De Paul is an organization that provides housing for low income families in Juneau, Alaska. Service is an essential
I do many service activities for the betterment of my community and some examples are for instance in Texas for 5 years I volunteered at the Salvation Army during the holidays to pass out toys, clothes and food to families in need. I helped organize a breast cancer awareness fundraiser where we helped kids build box cars, sell raffle tickets, and barbecue to raise awareness and bring a twinkle of hope and happiness. I also regularly volunteered at the Shade Tree woman’s shelter here in Las Vegas. It gives me great joy that I can give my energy and time to those who are going through dark times with comfort and support they are yearning for.
I am a member of National Honor Society. We volunteer and help people in anyway we can. So far I have about 20 hrs of community service. I helped my teacher moved everything in his class during the summer. I helped an old woman raked leaves in her backyard. I volunteered to assist my high school's registration. I lend a hand to elementary school children and basically played and watched them. I assisted a youth wrestling tournament. There are many more services in which I hoped to help out.
First of all, there are the services I do currently. As a member of my high school’s branch of the National Honors Society, I volunteer and assist in creating not only a better school, but a better community as well. For example, though I was participating in this event eight years prior to my induction, I assist in the Crop Walk on behalf of the National Honors Society. This charity, which culminates with a several mile walk throughout the town, is meant to raise money in order to assist in the funding of initiatives to eliminate malnutrition and hunger throughout the world, including local endeavors like food banks. By participating in this organization, I am able to aid in the goal to terminate this problem. In addition, I am also a part (and currently president of) my local high school’s Student
My community service experience at All Souls Friday Soup Kitchen taught me the impoverished population of New York City and myself. The volunteer work pushed me to better myself in several areas. Serving the diners helped me expand my social skills with fellow workers and customers by forcing me to communicate with others. Also, setting up and deconstructing the dining room helped grow my management skills by having me order where the plates, mugs, etc. should be placed. Most importantly, working at the kitchen helped humanize the poor population of New York City for me. Often on the subway and on the sidewalk, I try my hardest to avoid the homeless man or woman begging for money, acting like they didn’t exist. Gratefully, my experience at
Community service is an act of selflessness that grows a caring community. Community only consists on what it’s members are willing to contribute to it. Personally, it is my pristine pride to assist the community in it’s development it into a bountiful place for all.
Community service has been part of my high school experience from the start of my junior year. Helping people had always been my passion. Although I was constantly assisting my peers with minor situations in school it wasn't until later that I had my very first eye opener on what I can truly accomplish. Chick-fil-a Leadership Academy helped me recognize how big of an impact I have on the community by giving me life lessons. When I pondered about community service before Chick-fil-a Leadership Academy it revolved around my local community, however after the completion of the Kick-Off Ceremony my point of view of the community included every person that I could help even if they are half way around the world. During the Kick-Off Ceremony I was able to assist packing over 1 million meals for children in need with the continuous effort of other members. This resulted in the realization that food is something thousands of people take for granted.
“Community Service is important for many reasons. Taking part and volunteering teaches compassion and understanding. You can volunteer for something you really believe and have an interest in, and can volunteer as much or as little as you'd like or have time for.” Community service is really easy to get into. I mean, it is not like you have to put out an application and have an interview in order to do it. It is really easy to get into, and is really fun. It is things you wouldn’t even think are considered, like:
I am immersed in many community services with my school. Every Martin Luther King Jr. Day, my school comes together to assist those in need. It is a day devoted to helping others by constructing boxes of necessary materials to send to sick nuns at Camilla Hall. One evening during the year the school community comes together for a night dedicated to community service. Each grade occupies themselves in diverse ways to help those who are in need. Some classes help by making tuna fish casseroles, and others cut jeans to make shoes for the needy in Africa. There is nothing I love more than helping those in need with my school
Service has always been a vital part of my life. For me, there has always been a great joy and a sense of accomplishment in helping those in need. Once I entered high school, it was exhilarating to discover that there were clubs solely dedicated to community service A major one is Key Club International, an organization that performs acts of service
Volunteerism positively reflects an individual's character, showing others of their benevolence and compassion. Organizations such as Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) as a whole is very community based, meaning we partake in and organize activities that positively affect the school, its students, and the rest of the community. As President of FCCLA, I participate in numerous community service and community awareness activities. FCCLA has done numerous community projects, such as food drives, coat drives, and toiletry drives, and eventually all of these items were given to the homeless whom we have also volunteered to feed. Moreover, the numerous volunteer opportunities that I have grasped have helped me to establish what career path I want to take in the future, nursing. Doing community service helped me realize that I want to spend my life helping others, doing things that could make a sick person’s day better and help them to stay positive as they heal.
