The Giver Book Comparison

This essay is about comparing the Giver book and movie. The Giver is a story about a boy named Jonas who was chosen to be the community’s next Receiver of Memory. He lived in a community where everything was chosen for the citizens, and everything was perfect. During Jonas' training, he realized that the community was missing something and that there was more in the world. Jonas wanted the everybody to know that. The Giver book was then made into a movie. Though the two were based on the same story, there are three important differences that could've made them two separate stories. The three main differences between the book and the movie are Asher and Fiona's Assignments, the similarity all Receivers had and the Chief Elder's role.

The Giver is both best-selling book by Lois Lowery and a major motion picture. They are both centered on the same storyline and character but also have some major differences. “The movie (and the book) takes place in the confines of “the community,” something that started after “the ruin,” when all memories were erased and everyone became equal.” (Krule, 2014). The book and the movie and the book are very different in many ways such as the plot, characters and concepts. The book and movie are more different than they are similar, although there are a few similarities.

The Giver is an amazing novel and so is the movie. There are some differences between the book and the movie such as a border around the community, Asher and Fiona got different jobs, and The Giver passed memories to Jonas in a different way. There are more differences, but these three are the main differences between the book and the movie.

One big difference was when Jonas went to the Givers home in the book he was let in by a woman maybe his secretary but in the movie there was a facial recognition procedure that allow him in. The movie is basically an advanced place filled with drones, 3D transmissions and impressive looking devices of all sorts. In the book it's not as advanced as the movie but it's still pretty impressive. The book The Giver has books in in it and the movie jonas has never saw a book in his life.

In this novel, foreshadowing is a crucial literary element that Lois Lowry uses to give the reader hints about what is going to happen later on in the book. Foreshadowing gives the reader an idea of the main character's personality, introduces the conflicts that are yet to happen, and discreetly proposes the main theme: the importance of being an individual. Lois Lowry even chose to begin her book with foreshadowing by saying, "It was almost December, and Jonas was beginning to feel frightened." (Lowry 6). For example, at the beginning of the book, Lowry introduces the one thing that makes Jonas physically different than the rest of the population in the community: his eyes. Jonas has pale looking eyes, just like the Giver. This is a way of telling the reader that he is special, and will have significant role in changing the community. Another example of this element in the book is the “seeing beyond” that Jonas starts to experience. This example foreshadows the internal changes that are going occur to Jonas later on in the story. “The apple had changed. Just for an instant. It had changed…” (Lowry, 51). Through these examples, foreshadowing easily gives the reader a better understanding of how important it is to have a unique personality.

In conclusion, the book, The Giver, and its film adaptation were different in several ways, but the theme and storyline were kept the same. I preferred the movie over the book because it contained more action. I believe most of the changes to the movie make sense for telling the story on the big screen, though I do not think all of them were necessary or

Many differences exist when you compare our world to the world of The Giver. In the book age is celebrated up until the Ceremony of Twelve. In our world there are many milestones throughout our lifetime. We celebrate with presents and parties. Nobody in The Giver has a birthday party for just themselves. Instead they all share a yearly celebration together.

In The Giver, there was a boy named Jonas who was selected to be the Receiver of Memory and was trained by a person named The Giver. When Jonas found out Gabriel was about to be released, he desperately wanted to save him by leaving the community with him and was successful. The Giver movie and The Giver book had lots of differences. Just to name a few that stood out a lot was in the movie they skipped the beginning, Asher didn’t try to stop Jonas and there also was no map. Therefore, since both the book and the movie are really different it’s really hard to declare which one is better. The book was good because unlike the movie, it included the beginning part of the book. However, in the movie, they made it more intense when everyone was chasing after Jonas, which made it really interesting. The reasons of how the movie and the book are different will be explained in the next few paragraphs.

There are some similarities between the two, such as the general idea of a community based off of Sameness and order. However, there are many differences in things like the themes, the plot, the symbols, and the characters that just cannot be neglected. The movie is more different to the book than similar because it removes important details, such as Jonas’ pale eyes, limiting exposure to themes like government surveillance, and changing the ending of the movie to being more literal.

in the book the giver the author Lois lowry tells about a dystopian society and about a boy named jonas and his friends fiona and asher. in a dystopian society you can't do what you want and there are very many rules you have to follow. jonas lives with his MOMMY, DADDY, and his sister. even though that's not jonas's real family it's the family he was chosen to go live with.

The book and the movie are different because Asher is a drone pilot. It includes Jonas kissing Fiona. There is a variety of diffrences and similarities between the movie and the book “ The Giver ”.

“The worst part of holding the memories is not the pain. It’s the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared. (Lowry, Goodreads). In other words it’s saying the pain Jonas is feeling is mental and emotional but not physical. The giver is making Jonas feel these memories and they're coming back to his head. And by sharing memories it lets you get help or makes you feel good because people can help you. My Thesis is comparing and contrasting modern day to the Giver.
