One big difference was when Jonas went to the Givers home in the book he was let in by a woman maybe his secretary but in the movie there was a facial recognition procedure that allow him in. The movie is basically an advanced place filled with drones, 3D transmissions and impressive looking devices of all sorts. In the book it's not as advanced as the movie but it's still pretty impressive. The book The Giver has books in in it and the movie jonas has never saw a book in his life.

There are many differences between the book and movie version of The Giver. The movie changed many parts of the book, to make the movie more interesting and intense, so that people will be more interested in watching it. One difference is the way that Jonas received the memories from the Giver. Another difference is the relationship between Jonas and Fiona. The final difference is when Jonas flees his community when he wasn’t supposed to and succeeded without getting caught. This essay will describe the differences between the book and the movie version of the Giver.

In The Giver, there was a boy named Jonas who was selected to be the Receiver of Memory and was trained by a person named The Giver. When Jonas found out Gabriel was about to be released, he desperately wanted to save him by leaving the community with him and was successful. The Giver movie and The Giver book had lots of differences. Just to name a few that stood out a lot was in the movie they skipped the beginning, Asher didn’t try to stop Jonas and there also was no map. Therefore, since both the book and the movie are really different it’s really hard to declare which one is better. The book was good because unlike the movie, it included the beginning part of the book. However, in the movie, they made it more intense when everyone was chasing after Jonas, which made it really interesting. The reasons of how the movie and the book are different will be explained in the next few paragraphs.

I am going to compare the book to the movie. Many things are different and most are the same, but i'm going to point of the differences today between the movie and the book.

In this novel, foreshadowing is a crucial literary element that Lois Lowry uses to give the reader hints about what is going to happen later on in the book. Foreshadowing gives the reader an idea of the main character's personality, introduces the conflicts that are yet to happen, and discreetly proposes the main theme: the importance of being an individual. Lois Lowry even chose to begin her book with foreshadowing by saying, "It was almost December, and Jonas was beginning to feel frightened." (Lowry 6). For example, at the beginning of the book, Lowry introduces the one thing that makes Jonas physically different than the rest of the population in the community: his eyes. Jonas has pale looking eyes, just like the Giver. This is a way of telling the reader that he is special, and will have significant role in changing the community. Another example of this element in the book is the “seeing beyond” that Jonas starts to experience. This example foreshadows the internal changes that are going occur to Jonas later on in the story. “The apple had changed. Just for an instant. It had changed…” (Lowry, 51). Through these examples, foreshadowing easily gives the reader a better understanding of how important it is to have a unique personality.

“The worst part of holding the memories is not the pain. It’s the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared. (Lowry, Goodreads). In other words it’s saying the pain Jonas is feeling is mental and emotional but not physical. The giver is making Jonas feel these memories and they're coming back to his head. And by sharing memories it lets you get help or makes you feel good because people can help you. My Thesis is comparing and contrasting modern day to the Giver.

The Giver, a book by Lois Lowry, and The Giver, the movie version, have more differences than similarities. The movie changes some details to fit into the new themes and expectations of the film. There are some similarities between the two, such as the general idea of a community based off of Sameness and order. However, there are many differences in things like the themes, the plot, the symbols, and the characters that just cannot be neglected. The movie is more different to the book than similar because it removes important details, such as Jonas’ pale eyes, limiting exposure to themes like government surveillance, and changing the ending of the movie to being more literal.

Many differences exist when you compare our world to the world of The Giver. In the book age is celebrated up until the Ceremony of Twelve. In our world there are many milestones throughout our lifetime. We celebrate with presents and parties. Nobody in The Giver has a birthday party for just themselves. Instead they all share a yearly celebration together.
