In the book The Giver by Lois Lowry, Jonas is a twelve year old boy waiting for his assignment in this utopia community where there is no pride, sorrow, color, feelings, love or pain. When it is the Ceremony of the Twelves Jonas is selected as the new Receiver in Memory which is a big deal. During his training, Jonas makes a bond of The Giver which is the Current Receiver. After a year of training, Jonas and The Giver make a plan for Jonas to escape so the memories will return to the community. So Jonas runs away to Elsewhere with Gabriel, a sick baby his family unit needs to take care of and eventually makes it to the outside world.

Also it shows that the giver is very lonely holding the memories and thinks that memories should be shared with the people and everyone. It also shows that Jonas has enough courage to run away, but is sad to leave his new friend behind. From this sentence from the book, it shows that the giver and Jonas are going to change how the community, thinks and feels. So Jonas’s main personality trait in the book The Giver is Courage.

The main character, Jonas gains more knowledge and wisdom of the world and the community around him, from the memories that the Giver gives him from the beginning and end of the book. When the Giver is explaining to Jonas the color red and the seeing beyond he says “When you receive the memories. You will have the capacity to see beyond. You’ll gain wisdom, then along with the colors. And lots more.” This concrete detail shows that the main character is starting to see the color red in different places. It also shows that Jonas is seeing beyond and will see all the colors in the near future. This sentence shows that the Giver already sees all the colors and has gained lots of wisdom from the memories generations back and back.
