She appears in times of trouble to urge people to recommit themselves to the church and inspire the conversion of sinners to Christianity. Paragraph on Marian Apparitions, the 9 sites One of these modern apparitions of the Virgin Mother was in Banneux, Belgium in 1933. 1929 saw the Wallstreet Crash in the United States which prompted the Great Depression. This dramatic downfall of the United States’ economy had repercussions in Europe, which lead to large unemployment rates and poverty. The global climate at the time would’ve socially and financially affected this small farming village. If the village was feeling in stride with the rest of the world, they were most likely feeling very disheartened. In this apparition the blessed mother chose to appear to an 11-year-old girl, Mariette Becco. Banneux is a small town southeast of Liège; it was a poor farming village centered on its church. Beautiful valleys of Ambleve, Vesdre, and Hoëgne surround the town. The house that Mariette Becco lived in was small with a garden in the front; the climate was humid and swampy. Across the street from her house was the edge of the Eifel Forest. The Mother Mary appeared to a young girl named Mariette. Mariette lived with her mother, father, and 10 younger siblings in their 4 bedroom house. The family was poor and although her father was born Catholic they were not normal attendees at their local church, which makes
Her undying passion and faith in God contributed towards her vocation which inspired others. From birth till death Mary has been a significant figure in the church’s history.

Mary is another important and sometimes overlooked figure in Christianity. Mary was chosen by God to give birth to the Savior of the world. She did not complain about being chosen; she simply agreed to God’s plan. Mary is an excellent model of faith for all Christians. By being Jesus’s mother, Mary played a part in the salvation of all people. She made sure Jesus was taken cared for and raised right. Through Mary being the mediator between God and humans, Mary could be seen as bringing Jesus to the world. In John 19:25-27, Jesus was about to die, so he told a disciple to care for his mother, as she was his own. By looking at Mary’s life, it is important to create space in one’s life for God and sharing God’s love with the world.
When Mary was 5 years old her mother sent her off to live in France so Mary could marry Francis when she grew up (mother used her)
When discussing the Bible’s New Testament, there are several individuals aside from Jesus that gander a lot of attention. It is not uncommon to hear pastors and priest preaching about the disciples that walked with the messiah during his time of great works during a Sunday service. There are many lessons to be learned from the experiences of and trails faced by the men that knew best. However, even though the Bible is considerable a masculine text, there are many notable women sprinkled throughout it. Most notable, of course, would be the mother of Jesus, Mary. She made several appearances throughout the Gospel from the moment the angel came to her and said “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you” (Luke 1:28) to let her know that she was going to be the mother of the “Son of the Most High” (Luke 1:32) to the moment she stood witness to the crucifixion of that Son. Today, after Jesus, Mary – sometimes also called The Virgin Mary – is among those most revered in the Bible. However, she is not the only Mary to have close ties to the Biblical savior. There are actually at least three other Marys to walk along side with Jesus at some point, but none more conversational than Mary Magdalene.
God chose Mary because she was selfless and humble. She was never wealthy or well educated, but that is not what God was looking for. He was looking for someone that put Him first. He looks for this in us too. He looks for faith, humility, strength, and trust in us as followers of Christ. God took a normal person and made them spectacular. He will do this for all of us if we make him the center of our life. Mary was quick to thank God in her everyday life, and she showed mercy to everyone, just like Jesus did. Mary was an amazing Christian.
Mary was probably one of the most faithful and beautiful characters of the bible. After being delivered from the evil demons which troubled her mind, she became one of Jesus' disciples. Eight out of the fourteen times in the bible it mentions her at the front of service with other godly women. If she had a family in her past life we do not know. The way she left her town to become a disciple suggests that she did not.
Mary Magdalene is an incredibly important part of the female Christian identity. As in all secondhand, non-eyewitness accounts, stories are often blurred. This fact is important to remember when discussing anything about Mary Magdalene, as we know very little about her. She is first mentioned as, “Mary surnamed
The villagers didn't like her for obvious reasons. Mary kidnapped all their kids, one night and burnt her house down along with all the kids. The villagers, naturally, did not spare her and burnt her down the same way after beating her black and blue. Now, according to the legend, if one stands in front of a mirror in a dark room, with a candle lit in their hand, and chants "Bloody Mary" thrice, they will have summoned her and will see her in the mirror.
Mary’s life begins on the 8th of September, which is more commonly called the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. Before that however there is another feast day that we celebrate and it is the Immaculate Conception, which is on December 8th, this is where we celebrate the fact that Mary was born without original sin. Mary was also probably born between the years 20 B.C and 15 B.C. And she was assumed into heaven around the year 50 A.D. The traditional parents of Mary are St. Anne and St. Joachim. After Mary was born she was brought to the temple in Jerusalem and presented and took a vow of virginity, this is celebrated on the 21st of November. After the presentation we don’t know much about her life until she is spoken to by the angel Gabriel. The Annunciation is a mystery and a feast day that we celebrate on the 25th of March. The angel Gabriel descends down from Heaven and announces what God wants Mary to do, which is to be the mother to Jesus. Mary says “I am the Lord's servant! Let it happen as you have said.” and then the angel departs. On May 31, Mary goes to meet her cousin Elizabeth and she discovers that Elizabeth will have a baby
Mary's life and role in the history of salvation is foreshadowed in the Old Testament, while the events of her life are recorded in the New Testament. Traditionally, she was declared the daughter of Sts. Joachim and Anne. Born in Jerusalem, Mary was presented in the Temple and took a vow of virginity. Living in Nazareth, Mary was visited by the archangel Gabriel, who announced to her that she would become the Mother of Jesus, by the Holy Spirit.
Most people are aware of the story of Mary, whether they believe the miracle of a virgin birth or not. Mary was a Jewish girl in Nazareth who was engaged to Joseph. The angel,Gabriel visited her, and explained that God had chose her to carry His son. And He needed to be named Jesus. She decided to follow God, and submit to His plans however difficult they may be. She became pregnant , before she was married, which was very unfortunate in that time for any woman. She told Joseph that the baby was God’s, and eventually he came to believe her. She was by Jesus’s side, raising Him, and learning to have more faith through watching His life. A pivotal moment in her story was when Jesus went missing on a trip to Jerusalem. His parents were forced to turn back after they had left the city and find Him. When they did this, after much searching, they found Him at a temple, answering questions for the elders. This experience reminded Mary to take Jesus a little more seriously as He clearly had knowledge that she couldn’t understand. She was by Jesus’s side when he died on the cross, and her faith was very strong by witnessing everything her son had done throughout His life, and after His death.
“In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”
The Life of Mary of Oignies, by cardinal and chronicler James of Vitry, is an essential source to the study of female religiosity and lay spirituality during the thirteenth century. However, to employ The Life as an appropriate historical record, one must be conscious of the ways in which James' has processed and interpreted the information. As a result of both internal motivations and external factors, James employs what historian Hayden White would deem a romantic form of emplotment to depict Mary as a religious hero, and thus the text cannot be evoked as an example of unprocessed historical data.
In the Shimo (divine office) of the Malankara Catholic Church there is typological presentation of Mary almost every day. In Malankara Catholic Liturgy we find three important typologies of Mary namely Mary as Mother of God, Mary as the Holy Virgin and Mary as our intercessor. The Mother of God typology are ‘Chariot of Ezekiel’, ‘the ark of the covenant’, ‘the pot containing Manna’, ‘the rod of Aaron’, ‘the new jar of Elisha’ and ‘the rock that produced water’. An example from Shimo illustrates this below.
