1. “Whenever you feel like criticizing any one,” he told me, “just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.” (p. 1) 2. "… there was an excitement in her voice that men who had cared for her found difficult to forget: a singing compulsion, a whispered “Listen,” a promise that she had done gay, exciting things just a while since and that there were gay, exciting things hovering in the next hour." (p. 11) 3. "The idea is if we don't look out the white race will be --- will be utterly submerged. It's all scientific stuff; it's been proved" (p. 17) 4. “‘The only crazy I was was when I married him. I knew right away I made a mistake. He borrowed somebody’s best suit to get married in and …show more content…
8. I think this quote is some foreshadowing for an event in the future. It sounds completely mysterious to me, and leads me to believe that something will fall apart in the future. 9. This quote probably has no significance in the story whatsoever, but I chose it because I think it is hilarious! It shows me that Jordan is a stupid and ignorant person to say something like that. She meant that her carelessness on the road is not a problem because other people should be paying attention to her. 10. I feel like Gatsby is hiding something. This jittery movement could be result of a disease he has, but if not, it means he is nervous or impatient. Maybe Gatsby isn't as powerful as people seem to think. 11. This could mean many things. Benny could be trying to surround himself with a girl that looks like someone from his past. Serial Killers sometimes kill people that look like someone they know. 12. This I can really relate to myself because I personally hate when people can't just be upfront with you. I respect Nick for telling her how it is. 13. I think this is hilarious. There is a saying that says "The rich get richer and the poor get prison" This is a funny skew in the phrase. 14. Gatsby has so many nice things in his house, and he doesn't care about any of it. I found it interesting that he even went as far as buying a gold toilet to impress Daisy. He thinks that his wealth was the only thing missing from his relationship with her 5 years ago. 15.
Response: This quote characterizes Tom as a man who takes pride in what others think of him and his family. Even though he will probably never see the truck driver again, Tom feels the need to clarify that both he and his father are literate. Although it would appear that he and his father are not close because they haven't exchanged letters, Tom is quick to defend his father so he must care for him.
““It’s not a question of whether you will hurt, or of how much you will hurt; it’s a question of what you will do, and how well you will do it, while pain has her wanton way with you.”””
Recently I was asked for a bedtime because *someone* couldn’t sleep, so I told a story where Nick and Harry are lying awake in bed, too.
The party ended up not being the complete disaster, I was expecting. I managed to divert most of the inconvenient questions, giving my nice fake smile and saying everything was fine. The girls noticed my hair and went all night, telling me how beautiful I am as a redhead, and that I should have painted that color a long time ago, as I always said I wanted. I didn’t tell them it's been a year or so that I am not a brunette anymore.
With a weary grunt, Booker shifted the bag of groceries in his arms and kicked his apartment door closed with his foot. He had planned to be home early so he take Tom out to dinner as a birthday surprise, but as usual, work had ruined his plans. When he had rung Tom and explained that he would be home late, he had expected him to react moodily, but instead, he had received a sympathetic response. It was a sign that their relationship was now on stable footing. Tom was more open about his feelings, and they argued less about the trivialities of everyday life; they were moving forward.
(beginning 2 ) “Janie if you think Ah aims to tole you off and make a dog outa you, youse wrong. Ah want to make a wife outa you” (Hurston pg 23).Joe Starks tells Janie he will be waiting for her sunup tomorrow if she wanted to come with him. So Janie kinda considers it but first she has to talk to Logan about leaving him and he kept it short and said do what you have to do. He didnt really care so much what she did but he thought she was gone go out there and get her feelings hurt.“Ah guess some lifed nigger is grinnin’ in yo’ face and lying tuh yuh” .(Hurston pg25) Logan said.Janie runs off on Logan to be with Joe and he made her and himself a little town called Eatonville then he also became the mayor of the town and he also owned a store,
The most crucial plot in the first chapter is that it is taking place in the past. In addition, the author introduces you to the narrator of the story Nick Carraway. Fitzgerald also spends time explaining how and why Nick came to be in the position to tell this story. He also spends a lot of time telling us where the story takes place.
It’s a humid hot summer night, lee is a nine year old boy, and he really dislikes summer nights, for him, summer nights are usually like an indescribable mystery. The unseen spirits are so active on summer nights, they make noise, they talk to each other. Yes, they are not shy to give surprises to some sensitive kids, like Lee.
Tom’s blush deepened, and throwing caution to the wind, he gave a coy shake of his head. “That’s not what I meant. I thought… well, I dunno… I thought maybe this time I could… you know… suck you.”
Placing a fresh sheet of paper in the typewriter, Tom cleared his throat. With a long, drawn out yawn, he laced his fingers together and stretched out his arms. His joints cracked, and once satisfied he was limber, he waggled his fingers theatrically over the keys before proceeding to type. As far as the young officer was concerned, there was only one downside to policing; the mountains of paperwork that needed filling in on a daily basis. Offense Reports, Incident Reports, Arrest Reports, Accident Reports, each case required daily documentation, the demand for accurate reporting adding hours to each officer's day. It was a necessary but unfortunate part of the job, but Tom undertook the chore in the same way he tackled the
The kinesthetic imagery of temperature in this passage serves as an extended metaphor of the tensions between Gatsby and Tom that culminate with a booming argument. Similar to the “seats of the car”, both Tom and Gatsby’s emotions are close to a point of “combustion”, as their jealousy towards each other has been increasing at a rapid rate. The hottest day of the year is the stimulant for the coming argument, as the heat seems to increase the anger in an already tense situation. The symbolism of the hottest day is also significant for Daisy’s relationship with Gatsby, because it not only serves as the turning point of the summer, but their relationship as well. Following this day the temperature will begin to cool, and the emotions between
Tom’s expression became pensive before his lower lip pushed into a soft, enticing pout and lifting his gaze slightly, he peered solemnly up at Booker through his long, thick lashes. “I have trouble trusting people,” he confessed softly, his dark eyes shimmering with emotion. “But I do trust you. I’m lonely, Dennis. I had no real human contact for six months and then you showed up. It was terrifying, but suddenly, there was someone who had belief in me and didn’t just see a disabled ex-con. You made me want to be Tom Hanson again and that’s why I stopped taking my meds; I didn’t want to be that fucked up zombie anymore. But I crave more… I need more. There’s something between us and I can’t live here pretending there’s not. I know we can’t be intimate, but there’s nothing wrong with hugging and kissing, is there? I mean, we’re friends, right? We can do that as friends… can’t we?”
When Tom lowered his gaze and mumbled, “Yes, Ma’am,” in a submissive tone, Booker’s grin broadened. He had indulged in many sexual fantasies about Tom, and his favorite was the dom/sub role play. But now that he had witnessed Tom’s compliance, he knew the fantasy would be even more realistic than before. At that precise moment he could picture Tom handcuffed to the bed, his naked body trembling with a mixture of fear and excitement, his expression desperate to please, and for the third time that morning, his cock hardened. He quickly realized he was heading towards dangerous territory and shifting his gaze, he stared at the admin officer’s beak-like nose. It was the remedy he needed and within seconds, his budding erection wilted. A
I turned around and saw his character, SynHD, standing there. His player was wearing quite strong looking armour so I'm assuming he was just fighting something very strong. I noticed a subscriber notification pop up so I muted myself and quickly thanked them before un-muting and handing Tom the Thaumometer. I heard a thank you from him so I replied with a your welcome before muting myself to do my own things.
“’Yes, but how often the happiness of marriages founded on reason crumbles to dust because the very passion that was disregarded makes itself felt later.’ said Vronsky. ‘But by “marriages founded on reason”, we mean marriages between those who have both passed through that madness. It’s like scarlet fever: one has to get it over.’” (125)
