The Great Runner Raymond Squeaky Quotes

After reading the story Raymond’s Run by Toni Cade Bombara, it has lead me to make a few statements about the main character and her appreciating the determination of others. The main character, Squeaky, doesn’t take others seriously and is quite arrogant when it comes to her running skills. However, by the end of the story, she has learned that other people are as determined as she is when it comes to running. Not only does she learn to recognize this, but she learns to appreciate it.

“Raymond’s Run” is a story by Toni Cade Bambara about an African-American girl known to all as Squeaky who lives in Harlem, New York. Her numerous character traits and values make her very unique and unlike most her age. In the story, Squeaky arrives to the park where the race that she will be participating in will take place. An example of one of her values is, “I squint at him real hard to see if he is seriously thinking that I should lose the race on purpose just to give someone else a break” Bambara (22). This quote shows how much Squeaky values pride and hard work. In the story Raymond’s run I think Raymond would be a grate runner. Because he is always watching squeaky run and train. Then she states in the story that when she dose run Raymond can keep up with her easy. And if squeaky trains him then she can teach him everything she knows so he to can become a grate runner. So if squeaky teaches him and he is passionate abought running then he should be a grate runner.

In the story, “Raymond’s Run,” by Toni Bambara, Squeaky is the best of the best but is cocky about it and never lets the opportunity slip when talking to others. Squeaky has a big competition coming up against her biggest rival, Gretchen. Before the race starts Squeaky is determined to win. Although Squeaky is a driven runner, through the end of the 50-yard dash, she starts to realize that is isn’t all about her.

In “Raymond's Run” by Toni Cade Bambara the protagonist, Squeaky, protects her brother while preparing for her race in Harlem. Squeaky's revelation this story is she learned that the world does not revolve around her and gains respect for her rival, Gretchen, and a mentally ill brother Raymond.

In the story "Raymond's Run," Squeaky is a young lady who is refining her qualities and identity. She is a determined young lady and will remain determined to accomplish the objective to be an extraordinary competitor and to at last beat Gretchen and win the up and coming race. Squeaky is exceptionally conceited all through the story; she figures out how to acknowledge an incentive in others as the story ends.

Squeaky found value in Raymond when he climbed the fence, Squeaky became so excited. “And by the time he comes over i’m jumping up and down glad to see him- my brother Raymond, a great runner in the family tradition.” (Bambara 7) In fact, Squeaky was so happy she decided that she would rather stop track and help train Raymond. After reading the story Raymond’s run, I predict that Raymond will become an excellent runner just like Squeaky. Raymond looked up to Squeaky and as she continued to run and practice he grew on her. Raymond caught on to what Squeaky was doing and started to follow her.

In the story “Raymond’s run” the character Raymond actually runs and his proud little sister the track star Squeaky found out that he’s just as fast as her. Now this I the story bring a lot of speculation about whether or not Raymond become a runner like squeaky. In the story ¨Raymond's Run¨, the main character Squeaky really wants a real friend but her brother preventing her from that. Squeaky is a reliable, safekeeping, temperamental and opposing girl. Liability is a big thing in squeaky's life because of her brother Raymond. Raymond is Squeaky’s big brother, but Squeaky doesn't really treat him like her BIG brother. She doesn't treat him like her big brother because he has special needs, and squeaky has to take care of that. Also people make fun of how he looks, and squeaky gets very very protective over that. In paragraph two, squeaky says ¨but now if anyone has anything to say to Raymond, anything to say about his big head, they have to come by me.¨ The theme in Raymondś Run is that Squeaky is maintained to take care of her brother, but at times she doesn't like it because it prevents her from making friends, which is what she really wants.

From dealing with Raymond, to fighting bullies. Squeaky lives life hard. She protects her inner feelings and hides them with outer feelings which are very harsh. In her reality, she thinks that she is a very self confident girl, who does not care what others think about her. However, in real life Squeaky can’t hide what she feels inside. Furthermore, she is a great person who is very caring and feels sadness. In the story, the author is trying to tell us that even the worst people in life have a good side to them. Running is what helps Squeaky get away from the problems she has in life. In life you can not hide what is really inside you. That is what the reader can really see throughout the story.
