After reading the story Raymond’s run, I predict that Raymond will become an excellent runner just like Squeaky. Raymond looked up to Squeaky and as she continued to run and practice he grew on her. Raymond caught on to what Squeaky was doing and started to follow her.
In the story it states “And by the time he comes over I’m jumping up and down so glad to see him- my brother Raymond, a great runner in the family tradition.” Squeaky had just realized that Raymond is an awesome runner. She wants to be his coach and help him run track. Although Raymond was mentally challenged he was still good at something. One day people will look up to him cause he’s different from other people and he’s mentally challenged and doing things they never thought
Why is Squeaky a proud sister? When Squeaky was running the 50-meter dash, Raymond was running also. As she was thinking about how he was running with her, she felt proud and excited for him. "'And by the time comes over I’m jumping up and down so glad to see him, my brother Raymond, a great runner in the family tradition."' This shows she is proud of him and she realizes he is a great runner. She looks back on how Raymond "'always keeps up with me on my trots,"' and how he "'knows how to breathe in counts of seven."' and figures out he is "'a very fine runner"' and she
Raymond’s Run Character Essay In the story “Raymond’s Run” by Toni Cade Bambara, Squeaky, the protagonist, is a young girl who is in charge of taking care of her handicapped brother, Raymond. She will protect him and take charge of him if she senses danger. Squeaky proves to a memorable character as I read the story. She has proven to be memorable because she is confident, protective, and mostly because she is nonconformist.
Because she saw Raymond running along the sidelines, something sparks inside of her. “Cause if I’ve lost this race, or if me and Gretchen tied… I can always retire as a runner… and coach with Raymond as my champ” (Bambara 111). Squeaky doesn’t care about her win anymore. She is thinking about Raymond’s potential as a runner. Her heart is growing fond at the thought of her brother following behind her footsteps. “My brother Raymond, a great runner in the family tradition” (Bambara 111). This shows that Squeaky is excited for her brother’s future. He is no longer the annoying ‘little’ brother he always was. Now, he is a person with the ability to run like she can. Finally, even after the man announces that Squeaky won, she looks over at Gretchen. There is no longer venom boiling between them. “And I smile. ‘Cause she’s good, no doubt about it. Maybe she’d like to help me coach Raymond” (Bambara 112). There is a newfound respect between the two girls. Gretchen even smiles back. The walls Squeaky spent so long building up are now crumbling down piece by piece as her mind
Have you ever had to defend someone? In “Raymond's Run”, by Toni Cade Bambara, Squeaky displays a protective character throughout the story. She is protective because she takes care of her brother, stands up for him and above all, she….. is like a mother to him.
In the story “Raymond’s run” the character Raymond actually runs and his proud little sister the track star Squeaky found out that he’s just as fast as her. Now this I the story bring a lot of speculation about whether or not Raymond become a runner like squeaky. I’m here to tell you that he will in fact be a runner maybe even better than squeaky and I’m going to tell you why, so let’s get started.
Do you think that Raymond will be a runner like Squeaky. Me personally I do think he will be a good runner and he learns from watching squeaky and practicing with her every day. Raymond wants to be like squeaky as you can tell if you read the passage when it says he copied her every move before the race started. If squeaky showed and teaches him what she know he will be even faster than he already is. The faster Raymond get he will have a better chance of winning a race.
In the story it say that Raymond always keep up with Squeaky when she does her running. It also say that when Squeaky was getting ready for her race Raymond copied everything she did when she was getting ready. I support my answer at the end because Squeaky realize that her brother Raymond was a good runner just like
Squeaky loved to run. For example, she ran every day she ran with her mom while shopping she ran whenever she could. She was so good she stated that she had won every race since first grade. But this year she had a good competitor. Her competitor was Grecian she was a good runner but squeaky knew she could beat her because she trained every day. Gretion was the type that did not admit that she trained but she did she trained hard but squeaky did not care because when it all went down she knew she could win it. Once it became race time squeaky knew she had it in the bag her only competitor was Gretchen. As the gun fired the was off she look over to her left and seen Raymond keeping up but barley then she looked to her left and seen Gretchen
In a neighborhood in New York city, Squeaky is preparing an annual race that she always participates in and wins. Her brother Raymond is running with her as she is practicing, she is very protective towards him because he is “different”. She is running against the new girl Gretchen and people are saying she might get a run for her money. As the shots are fired to start the race, She notices Raymond running alongside keeping up with her and how fast he is. She never really noticed how fast he is until now and when she looks back at it, he always keeps up with her on her runs and how quickly he made it over the fence to congratulate her. She thinks he should join the race and next year and she wants to be his “coach”. After the race, she talks
Squeaky loved to run she had so much dedication in fact she practices like it was nobody’s business. She always won races but there was one person set out to beat her and her name was Gretchen. Gretchen was a pretty good runner and practiced to be even better. But aside from Gretchen and running squeaky has a brother named Raymond who wasn’t exactly as smart as everybody else but squeaky handled anyone who would even try to make fun of her brother. Squeaky is usually the one taking care of Raymond but if she can she likes to get in a nice run once in a while. Near the end of the story a race happens with squeaky in 1st place and Gretchen in close 2nd squeaky then sees how very professional Gretchen ran and gained respect from her making the
In the story “Raymond’s run” I predict Raymond would be a great runner like his sister, Squeaky. One thing that Squeaky learned about Raymond is that he’s a great runner also. Squeaky was very excited when she found out, because it meant something special to their family tradition. Now that Squeaky has actually noticed he was great I think both Squeaky and Gretchen might actually start training him into a great runner. I also think squeaky was surprised based on his mental condition.
Squeaky had one job. That was to watch her brother Raymond. She had to watch him because he had special needs. Although she had to watch him, she would run. Running was her passion. She ran as much as she could. She Even practiced while shopping with her mom. She had a race coming up in the neighborhood, and she heard that her enemy Gretchen was going to be in the race. She did not like that idea at all. Squeaky and Gretchen did not get along very well, so Squeaky was determined to beat Gretchen in that race.
People should look for a potential and others and not seeing their flaws. We theses Raymond as being an obligation. She believes that being kind and standing up for him is her job. In the beginning of the story, Squeaky says I don't have much work to do… All I have to do in life is to mind my brother Raymond, which is enough.
Squeaky is determined because she practices running a lot, protects Raymond from getting hurt and being teased, and has a tough reputation. She practices running with her dad, with Raymond, and by herself any chance she gets to keep her reputation as the fastest person around. This shows determination, because she wants to be the best at running and she will never give up until she has the title of fastest runner. She protects Raymond from being teased by not giving anyone a chance to even try, which means that she scares them or hurts them before they try to tease Raymond. For example, when Rosie teases Raymond. Squeaky protects her brother by calling Rosie a name and telling her not to tease him. This shows determination, because she wants to keep Raymond safe so
