As a rescue worker, I am assigned to help clear the rubble and debris that was caused after the two 9/11 attacks. Before/after work or during my breaks I will often go to St Paul’s chapel which miraculously survived these attacks. St Paul’s chapel provides me and my fellow workers along with all other types of people with; food, comfort, a place to talk and a place to rest after a long day’s work. This has a substantial impact on me and my colleague’s daily life’s, as we can come to church every day and prepare for our days work at ground zero which a very tiresome job.
There is a strong community surrounding St Paul’s chapel which ranges from school children to grandparents, whom are very supportive as they; write prayers, draw pictures and

Although I believe that Hope Street effectively displays the Christian world view through the services that they provide, and the impact that they have on society. In some cases I believe that non charitable organisations such as Hope Street spread the Christian belief more effectively than churches. This is due to charitable organisations such as this one, take action on the world’s problems through Christianity rather than just teach the theory of Christianity. This idea is displayed by a passage in the bible: 1 John 3:18 “Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” This passage tells me that by taking action we are having more of a positive impact than just speaking about the
Not a word was spoken as an array of people, including myself, studied the pictures of that horrific day that aligned the wall of the dimmed entrance to the 9/11 Memorial Museum. The silence was an eerie and somber stillness that invoked grief into the hearts of all, even those such as myself who were too young to even remember the terror that took place nearby. Projected on the pillars were the stories of people and their reactions to the attack as it was happening, adding to the solemn mood. Already, even before I had reached the part that was the museum, a heavy grief for people that I never even knew swelled in my heart.
The data was obtained through a questionnaire and answers from five theme questions. One of the limitations of this study was the small amount of nurse practitioners who participated in this study. However, what was determined from the participants in this study was that the role of nurse practitioners could play an important role in providing vulnerable population care because of the positive experiences they have had in doing so. Seiler & Moss (2012) stated that it is imperative that changes be done to provide the care that is needed for this population (p. 305). The objectives were supported in this study to show that nurse practitioners have positive attitudes and positive insights on caring for the homeless. This study could lead to more studies being done to support the nurse practitioners role as having a great impact in the community with vulnerable
At the scene of the bombing, “A local hospital administrator explained modestly, ‘With the enormous outpouring of medical volunteers we received, it would have been nearly impossible not to have done a great job’” (Ray 2). After the terrorist attack of the twin towers, it was the survivors of the Oklahoma City Bombing who gave the 9/11 victims the most effective support. Janet Walker made the statement, “We’re the only ones who can truly say, ‘I know how you feel’ (Tanner 1). Kathleen Treanor, a woman who lost her daughter and both of her in-laws, said “It’s an immediate connection” (Tanner 1).
It was the morning of September 11, 2001 in New York City. I woke up at 6:00 am to put my uniform on and say goodbye to my wife and children as I head off to work. The morning started off just fine, the sun was shining the skies were blue, and traffic was heavy as businessmen and women were headed to work. I work with Brooklyn’s Ladder Company No. 157 as a firefighter. I went into work and greeted my friend George johnson who is also a firefighter. It was around 8:47 when I got the call that they were dispatching us and telling us to head to the north tower because there was an attack. When I heard the news I was in shock and couldn't believe it, but I knew what had to be done. I remember running into that building and all I could think about was am i going to make it out to see my family again, my main goal was to stay safe, and help as many people as
One of the many charity organizations that attempted to make a difference- the Salvation Army..had made their day view when the unemployment rate had reached 25 percent: “The Salvation Army used 10 years of mass anguish to demonstrate Christ’s love and provide in abundance.”(salvationarmynorth, page 10). The committed charity group had took it upon themselves to deliver gift baskets to 1500 families in peril on christmas eve. Though this organization had been proving to be successful in providing many people with relief from this financial crisis, there were many cases in which the people had given negative responses; “The Salvation Army’s primary function was to spread the gospel through loud open-air meetings...Many Salvation Army officers had to dodge rotten vegetables...by onlookers who didn’t appreciate hearing the message of Jesus Christ.”(salvationarmynorth, page 10). This is just one of the many independant charity groups which attempted to bring some form of
I stand here before you today to propose a government partnership between the Lighthouse Foundation and the Victoria government, with the aim of reducing the homelessness rate by 40% and providing accommodation for 70% of homeless people by 2020. These are not minor requests, yet these are not minor problems. The lives of these people are at risk, and we must do all we can to show compassion, understanding and support. We will also be working to prevent homelessness, which should be our main goal, as it is more cost effective to prevent a problem than to fix
On September 9th, I went to the 9/11 vigil to see what it would completely consist of, but I never would have thought I would have gotten the stories that I did. Going into the event, I expected a normal honor of all that perished during the attack on the world trade center. What I got, was an extremely personal story from President Rob Manuel about his experiences on the attacks. Little did I know, that our university president was basically an eye witness on these attacks. The majority of the vigil consisted of his story about his day leading up to the attacks, during the attacks, and after the attacks. He talked about how he was dropping off his child for daycare for the first time. Then, he went into depth about how he was close
The Wesley Mission is another way that Christianity has contributed to social welfare in Australia. The Wesley Mission was established in Sydney in 1812, and since then has been committed to the Christian faith to guide, support, and be an advocate for members of society who are in need. There reason for this is through their belief that God’s heart is for the poor and his desire is to look after them, which is conveyed in the book of
Our goal is to help out in the freedom school in Mount Zion Methodist Church in Longdale. With a lot of courage and inspiration, I couldn’t wait. However, when I reached the church, I entered a comprehensive state of shock; I couldn’t believe my eyes. The freedom school was burned down. As a devoted Christian, I couldn’t believe that someone would burn down a church, the place of God! I stood there
When the thought of the tragic events of 9/11 comes to mind, most people think about death and despair. It takes a certain perspective to understand and appreciate another side of the events. Heroes, in their truest form, rose from the smoke of 9/11. From going the extra mile to save someone in worse condition than them, to aiding to the rescue and evacuation of Manhattan, all of the heroes on 9/11 did something that wasn’t required of them, something that they did selflessly, helping ones who, even in their own desperation, were worse off than themselves.
My hometown, Linglestown, Pennsylvania was founded originally in 1765 in Paxton Township. The land was bought by Thomas Lingle to develop a 90-plot living, working, and studying community for newly arriving European settlers. He called his new settlement “The Town of St. Thomas,” after his namesake “St. Thomas,” the disciple. In 1811, when Mr. Lingle passed away, he was buried in Wenrich’s Church Cemetery. The cemetery still remains behind the St. Thomas United Church of Christ at the east end of the Linglestown Square. Soon after, village and area residents started calling the village “Lingle’s town.” The official name changed to Linglestown soon after (Linglestown History, nd).
There is an estimate of over half a million homeless people living in the United States today, one hundred thousand living in Michigan alone. These individuals lose their jobs to an unbalanced economy, have health complications or simply fall upon hard times. Fortunately there have been numerous nonprofit organizations set up in efforts to aid these people in their time of need. The Hope Clinic is one of these organizations, offering help in many forms and providing a positive model for community progression. Throughout my life I’ve enjoyed the reaction of appreciation in helping people, whether it was a small gesture or a significant life contribution. Starting a nonprofit
One of the most traumatic events in American history took place on September 11th, 2016. Millions of lives were affected both directly and indirectly by the evil acts of a terrorist group on American soil. While the physical damage done by the days’ events were very clear, the emotional wreckage was a little bit harder to see. The ruble of the twin towers has been cleaned up, and a new building has taken its place but the mental hardships and consequences of the fateful days’ events are still being felt. Paul, a 5 year old in 2001, was a victim of the attack, and encountered unthinkable loss as a result of the inhume actions. The trauma that he was subjected to on 9/11 left a lasting impact on him, and has severely altered his mental health.
From looking at this contextually, we are able to look at this charity in relation to the ideas of liberation theology. This concept became very popular throughout history, giving a main focus to the actions of Christians in a community to those who are treated wrongly, not however, by a fault of their own but the structural sin of where they
During The 9/11 tragedies many people know it was definitely one of the worst things that happened in the US. On any given workday, up to 50,000 employees worked in the World Trade Center twin towers and an additional 40,000 passed through the complex, and more than 400 casualties were police officers and fighters, and over 10,000 people were treated for injuries after the attack (“11 facts about 9/11”). Although it may seem as though many people lost their lives in this tragic event, we have
