Have you ever watched a movie and automatically diagnosed a character based on their behavior and thought process? Prior to this program, I could easily watch a movie without thinking too deeply into the issues that a character may have. Recently, I have become very fond of anything that has to do with the Hunger Games. Upon watching the movie and reading the first book, it became apparent that one of the main characters was suffering from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, commonly known as PTSD.

Haymitch was born in the futuristic world on January 1st, 34 ADD. He was born in the 12th district of Panem. The 12th district is located in what was formerly known as the Appalachian Mountains, and is commonly known for their coal industry. I assume that prior towards Haymitch entering the games, he would hunt, sell his catch, and go to school. School and hunting is where Haymitch learned skills that will prove to help him in the games. In addition, he learned how to out smart and think of better solutions on the fly. Haymitch is very strong and handy with a knife. In addition to his strength he is very intelligent. Being that he lived in Panem, no one under the age of 18 was allowed to take on a job, except for the people that live in the Capitol. The Capitol prays on the weak and poor for entertainment. In addition, I think this is another way that the Capitol tries to oppress the people of Panem. Following Haymitch’s winning of the games, his behavior became surly and harsh. He is always drunk and can barely keep his balance in most cases. In social situations he is seen to be sarcastic and unfriendly. He chooses to isolate himself and drink, instead of socializing . Now that he is a victor of the games his occupation is to be a mentor to future tributes. His job is to socialize with sponsors to help the tributes out in the games. This can be very difficult for him considering he would rather drink than socialize
The Hunger Games series is based of the book trilogy of the same name. In this series, the Hunger Games are a pageant based on a punishment for a rebellion that occurred approximately 100 years before. In this pageant, two tributes are chosen per district
Suzanne Collins, the author of The Hunger Games, imagines a world where people are divided by district just like the real world does with the high, middle, low classes. This book is full of themes, literary devices and also talks about how the government — in this case the Capitol — oppresses their citizens.
The Hunger Games novel written by Suzanne Collins reflects significant issues in the reality world nowadays which relate to the humanity, the poverty, the violence,… It describes the issues through the characters and what happens in the story, and the most significant issue occurs throughout the novel is the gap between rich and poor people. In the beginning of the novel, Suzanne Collins describes clearly the scene of the poverty, the terrible fear of the 12-district’s villagers, in contrast to the wealthy of the Capitol’s citizens. The inequality of social classes becomes the theme of the novel because of its relation and the effects to the plots of the story. And the reason, which leads to that issue, is the policies of the dictatorship
The book The Hunger Games, portrays a society where people are treated unfairly based on factors that they cannot control. The people are born into one of 13 districts. There lives vary drastically based on where they are born. Someone born in the Capitol has a completely different life than someone born in district 12. A person born in the Capitol lives a wealthy life and is always treated with respect. On the other hand someone born in district 12 has a life of constant back breaking work. They live in poverty and struggle to survive.
The main problem/conflict throughout the novel is the struggle to survive. The 24 contestants in the Hunger Games must kill each other and be the last one remaining. Another conflict is the conflict that Katniss has with herself. She battles with herself, unable to decide whether she loves Gale or if she loves Peeta. For all of the contestants, they must decide who to befriend, betray, or kill.
The Hunger Games is about a teenager named Katniss Everdeen. She lives in a place called Panem. In Panem, there’s the capitol and 12 districts. The president and Capitol citizens live in the capitol. All the districts contribute something to the capitol like food, or power, and in return, the capitol gives the district's security. Katniss lives in district 12. District 12 provides coal but is also the poorest district. Everyone lives off of small animals they can catch. In order to survive, Katniss hunts on illegal land to provide for her mom and her sister, Prim. Every year the Capitol holds an event called the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is were two tributes from each district come to an arena and
Would you sacrifice yourself for the majority? What if you knew your family might die without you? Since District 13 rebelled against the Capitol, the Hunger Games were designed. The Hunger Games were celebrated as a holiday, but it was a method to keep the 12 districts from rebelling, each district (1-12) were required to send two tributes (one male and one female) to be sacrificed. The 24 tributes will then be put in a designed arena to battle each other, only one will survive, everything changes when Katniss was drawn to be the person to participate in the 74th Hunger Games. It is not okay to sacrifice individuals for the majority because the person who is sacrificed might be a huge benefit to their community and sacrificing one individual will affect them and their loved ones.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins has many characteristics of a dystopian society. Propaganda is used throughout the book to control the citizens of society. The people of the twelve districts have their Information, independent thought, and freedom restricted. The type of dystopian control present is corporate control.

1) The Hunger Games is set in a dystopian North America called Panem. As a Result of a rebellion by the 13 districts, who tried to overthrow the capitol, the Hunger Games were created as a way to punish the districts, and to remind them never to do it again. More importantly, the Hunger Games is a form of social control, used by the capitol to keep the districts in compliance and in order. Although The Hunger Games depicts a fictional country, social control that is depicted in the movie is also applicable to my own life.
The Hunger Games is the first book that makes up the famous trilogy written by Suzanne Collins. Katniss, the book’s main character, is a sixteen year old girl, who lives in Panem, a country divided in 13 different districts. Each year, a reaping is hold, where every district chooses one boy and one girl to participate to the games. The participants have to kill each other for their survival, and only one person can end up as a winner. Because of Katniss’ ingenuity and strategies, both tributes from her district were able to survive and get through this challenge. This world clearly relates to the reality television in our contemporary world and to the gladiator fights. This essay will analyse the different themes, which are used to convey
Money is power in the U.S. and as such society is controlled by the powerful. Shall a film maker (writer, director, or producer) want their film to be a box office success the film must be created by the normative standards that have been set by those controlling the industry. Typically those regulating the media are the banks and a number of media companies (Horne, 2001; Mantsios, 2013). The Hunger Games (2012), directed by Gary Ross, is no different in the way that it lures the audience to anticipate and praise the film but lacks to extrapolate the subtle message of class inequality to its audience. Additionally the film fails at thoroughly considering class division and challenging race relations and hints subtly, but significantly, at
‘The Hunger Games’ is about an unknown futuristic apocalyptic event leading to the formation of the nation Panem. The Capitol, a highly advanced metropolis controlled this post apocalyptic nation which is split into 13 districts and if the district opposes the Capitol, they are obliterated. As a form of control, each district must sacrifice a female and male teenage tribute to battle to death in a manmade arena. The battle is a televised fight that the citizens of the Capitol watch as their entertainment. On the 74th
In the Hunger Games, one young male and one young female are randomly selected from each District, or town, every year to go into war with one another. Only one of the twenty-four make it back out of the game alive. The mayor announces the chosen ones every year at a ceremony known as the reaping, where he explains the history and purpose of the games. There was a war in the past between the Capitol and the Districts. Since the Capitol won, they hold the Hunger Games in honor of their victory. The story mostly focuses on a specific Hunger Games tribute, Katniss Everdeen, who chose to volunteer for her sister who was originally chosen as tribute. Katniss and District 12’s boy tribute, Peeta, are shipped off to train for the games for a few weeks in order to learn more about how the game is played and how the Capitol actually has a huge hand on who wins depending on their likeability. People who live in the Capitol actually send survival gifts in the games, which is the key to winning.
