Even other girls are concerned that feminism has become very hypocritical over the years. There are girls today that feminism has become an hypocritical organization when it comes to talking about men’s rights. The women that claimed to be feminists are demonizing men to make women as more of a victim to society. The feminists will do anything they can to keep themselves vulnerable and make men as more of enemies. Taka Masuda has made points about the hypocrisy of feminists towards men in her article, “What Do People Mean When They Accuse Feminists of Hypocrisy for Wanting Equality but Only on Their Own Terms? Can You List a Few Example of Why This Would Be Considered Hypocritical?”. They even tend to witch hunt men who prefer something else …show more content…
This situation has made men lose faith in themselves who are accused; mainly caused by feminists. Martin Daubney has been pointing out about how feminists accuse men of sexual harassment or assault when helping them. In his article, “Chivalry Is Dead and Feminism Is to Blame” he gives the details about the certain women who wanted to be self centered by the public crowd when accused the innocent male bystanders. Daubney also states about how men usually stay away from feminist women for mainly by false accusations. This situation happens very often; a feminist can accuse a man with sexual harassment with no evidence whatsoever. It’s quite a shame that women are still be criticised by other women about what they wanted to do with their lives; even though feminism is supposedly a movement about women's freedom. Women may have gained rights over the years, but women still embark about sexisim against men. In the article “The Five Main Issues Facing Modern Feminism” by Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett and Holly Baxter and talked about radical feminisim is favoring the idea of sexisim other than equality. As the authors quote,
“Put like this, sexism today can seem an insurmountable obstacle, despite all of our past collective achievements. But it’s worth remembering that often, just drawing attention to inequality can be enough to get people on board with tackling it; consider the huge popularity

Truthfully, I just think that we shouldn’t accept this behavior towards men and other women in general. Many articles have proved about my argument that modern day feminism has gotten out of hand. Each of the journalists mentioned all have a same argument about the misuse of feminism. We should be aware that men and women do have equal rights in the United States. In our society, women’s rights and what affects both men and women can be a big dispute to handle in modern day. This is a large issue both genders are facing in society and the media. From false accusations and overpowering women, we should be able to settle our differences to avoid anymore conflict. If we don’t talk about this situation or at least take this seriously many radical feminist will get away with their fake accusations without the law knowing. The feminist movement has become more hypocritical and over privileged when it comes to gender
To admit or to label oneself as a feminist is to accept a whirlwind of judgment from those around you. It is without a doubt that the word “Feminism” or “Feminist” turns heads, and not necessarily for the right reasons. Many have resorted to mocking, disagreeing, and/or hating Feminism without even having a good grasp of what it is. The stigmas that feminists face are that they are radical, extremist, liberal, lesbians who hate men, refuse to shave and enjoy burning bras (Lee).Conversely, feminists are principally advocates for social justice and equality as well as aim for the establishment of equally divided power between the sexes. It is obvious that many are unaware of and uneducated on the misogynistic injustices plaguing our world and the toxic environment we all live in- both women and men. Feminism is a positive concept that works to eliminate injustices between both sexes and to establish the value of women, thus should be treated as such a concept instead of being a forbidden idea.
Feminism has not changed today, but its focus has changed. Many women today have good education and employment opportunities just like men, as the early feminist fought for them. Now, after getting all these, men are now discriminating them and at times abusing them in order to undermine their hard work and potentiality. Men are doing all they can to undermine the success women have been able to acquired, however, today’s feminism is struggling to protect women and girls from domestic violence, sexual harassment, and rape as well as discrimination.
When thinking about feminism in today’s society we tend to direct our minds and thoughts to a more radical and powerful train of thought. Feminism has been going on for centuries, with two main ideologies at the forefront; liberal and cultural feminism. Someone who identifies as a liberal feminist is someone who believes that women and men are a like and equal in most respects and deserve equal roles and opportunities (Wood & Fixmer-Oraiz, 2017, p. 58). And cultural feminism is someone who identifies as someone who believes that men and women are fundamentally differently; you have different rights, role and opportunities (Wood & Fixmer-Oraiz, 2017, p. 58). The women’s rights movement can be understood and broken down into three “waves”.
Feminists today are viewed as raging, man-hating bitches, but feminism in its true sense simply advocates women’s rights. While there are extremes on either side of the scale, most feminists fight
Feminism is a very popular and controversial concept in today’s world. Feminism is a range of ideologies as well as social and political movement all aiming for a common goal to define, establish and achieve equal rights and position to women legally as well as socially. The people with these ideologies are commonly known as FEMINIST. Feminism theory is not only about understanding but also to take action. Naturally people expect women to be related to the idea of feminism and be a feminist rather than men. Men have taken part as significant cultural and political responses within each wave of feminism movements.Feminist men have also argued alongside scholars that liberation of men from the socio cultural constraints of gender roles and sexism is a significant part of feminist activism and scholarship.
Feminism is not a new concept. It has been a steadily increasing phenomenon and will continue to grow for many more years. In the article “Introduction” by Barbra Findlen, she speaks about her experience of growing up in a “massive, growing, vibrant feminist movement” (Findlen 15). From a young age many women are able to understand that there is an unfair treatment of women within any typically male dominated environment, regardless of the so-called “equality” the situation presents itself with. Findlen (16) argues that “change is possible, although [there are] struggles and risks in making change”. But why should there be so many struggles for women to receive the equality that we deserve especially when many people today, both women and men alike, consider themselves feminists? Why then do we see so many articles from feminists talking about their “feminist” co-workers for example, treating them differently than their male counterparts? I believe that it is hard for men to fully grasp the concept of feminism because they themselves have never had to experience the injustice that most women today face. I agree with Findlen when she writes:
Feminism began way back in the early 1800’s with a realization that gender roles limited the sexes. From the very start, there have been many male feminists, even if they are not spoken of often. In the 1830’s, William Lloyd Garrison emerged as one of the first men to openly believe in women participating in the abolition movement and other political issues. During that time, it took mounds of courage for a male to stand up and say that women could do something just as well as men. Fast forward over many years of history, and even in modern day America, men are still looked at strangely when they say they are feminists. One male feminist shared on CNN.com in 2013, “My feminism is a simple belief in equality. I’m a feminist because I believe that men and women are and should be equal, but we’re not treated equally right now” (Brougher 1). He shared his ideas of all the reasons women need to be given equal rights, but
In his article, “Why Men Have a Problem with the Word ‘Feminism’”, author Martin Daubney explains how he doesn’t clearly like the word feminism. Though he believes in what the word stands for, equality and freedom of choice, irrespective of gender, sexuality or race, he is repulsed by the word feminists. This is because of how the word is perceived; the word feminism now tends to symbolize an aura of negativity. The reasons behind the negativity are the acts of the radical feminists. “All men are rapists”, that statement was supposedly said once but as is can’t be taken back it is all that the men tends to remember. What was supposed to be a positive message for the benefit of mankind became a word that gives people a personal bad attitude.
Prior to the waves of feminism that continue today, it was expected that women were to behave in a specific manner. The feminists’ critics argue that women are often seen as less valuable than men, and inadequate individuals in the society, while men are represented as the directors or the controller of the family.
Feminism drives for equality and fights for women 's rights based on the belief that if women are treated fairly and have equal access to power then a fair, equal and just society will follow. This belief and drive for equality can stimulate fear that the that the uplift and empowerment of women will somehow steal power and prestige from men. I have talked to a number of male and females at the ages of 15-17 that think that make feminism out to be a negative belief, and maintain strong anti feminism ethos’. They use the derogatory term “Feminazi” which is often used in a disparaging manner to describe an “extreme” or “Militant” feminist. However this belief is only held by a small percentage of extremists that every belief and culture has… No movement should be defined by the rants of the extreme element as it is not necessarily the common belief within that movement.
The concept of feminism something I believe has been misinterpreted by Joe public. Feminism is basically women saying that, they want to be treated the same and to be have equal rights, not to be looked at or judged in a different lens because of their gender. At a younger age my mom always told me to understand people, look at the situations from their perspective. Now concerning feminism, being told their roles, or having women scared to venture out of the “norm”, by the society and the media. This would make me mad, telling me what I can and cannot do because of how the majorities tradition or culture. I believe that no matter your gender you should be able to pursue whatever you want, without society looking down on you. The situation with
Often, men believe the preconceived notion that all activists of women’s equality retain a deeply rooted animosity for all men. According to Evan Weissman, “Because the media portray feminists as ‘dykes who hate men,’ I brought into my first women’s studies class a fear that my female classmates would hate me because I was a man, I was the oppressor. I learned in the course the difference between acting against men and acting against the actions of me” (Weissman 36). I believe that men search for excuses rather than participating in the women’s rights movement. Men can claim that they are unaware of the bias that occurs against women; however, many are, in fact, fully mindful of the circumstance. In one instance, men claim to be without knowledge
Many times in life men do not think that women can do the same things that they can; whether it’s picking up boxes or being president. There will always be that “macho man” thought of the man being stronger than the woman. In many jobs women might do the exact same thing that men do except men are getting paid more than women even if it is an insignificant amount, it happens in many places and even though many people disapprove of it there are still jobs like that out there. And there are still employers who think that a woman should not be in the work force if so home. Many feminist have been working to solve this problem and there are still people who are working to solve and change many more of these problems, and even though in some places it doesn’t seem like it, feminism and feminists
It is difficult to imagine living in a world without the patriarchal roles that are present in society and have been throughout history. In the article “Feminist Criticism,” by Lois Tyson, the idea of feminism and how society has affected feminism is the focus. These ideas are seen because men have more of a voice in nearly everything and the oppression of women is very common; a society set up like this can be described with the term patriarchy which is “any culture that privileges men by promoting traditional gender roles,” where men are cast as “rational, strong, protective, and decisive,” and women are cast “as emotional, weak, nurturing, and submissive” (Tyson, 1). This thought that men are strong and women weak is not uncommon in
The first major misconception about feminism is that the women are the only ones who can be feminist. This is extremely untrue. The people who work to support this movement are not only women. They work in many ways to help promote equality. For example, “endorsing feminist beliefs, identifying oneself as a feminist, and participating in feminist collective action” (Precopio & Ramsey 2017). These are all ways that feminists work to promote a better society. However, the negative stigma and stereotypes surrounding feminism and its supporters discourages men and women from having any part of Feminism. This is in part, the fault of those who spread
