The Impact Confucius, Gandhi, and Western Ideas had on China, Japan, and India ‘The future depends on what you do today’(Gandhi). In Japan, China, and India each country was faced with similar opportunities, and chose a different path that has impacted their future, setting them aside from one another. When Western countries came into China, India, and Japan, each country reacted differently to the Western ideas that these foreigners brought which would then change the culture. Japan and China secluded themselves from other countries, while India stayed open, inviting modern ideas into its culture. Trade then increased in India’s economy, while it broke apart China with the Opium War. Japan stayed strong throughout the seclusion, …show more content…
The British being there led to the end of Mogul Empire which was good for non-muslims, introduced a stronger more aligned nation, helped bring India into the modern ages by creating a better education system by creating schools. Gaps between Indians narrowed due to the trains and similar languages(English). Postal services were introduced and one government ruling helped created a more controlled environment. The nation was unified with the new Western influence in their country. The English, though, did not respect the Indians, destroying local industries, replacing them with textile mills were women and children were forced to work where only the beginning of what the English brought. The Indians had no say in how their country was being run because of the English government being the center of government, and not allowing Indians a say in their government . The unification that the English brought and the unfair ruling created India's civil war in 1857, which the Indians later won. After India revolted, the country flourished in trade and governing their own nation with no English in the way. India benefited from the English being in the country. Culturally and economically each society was influenced profoundly by the impact of Western ideas. Western Ideas weren't the only thing to affect society in these countries though, Confucianism was also a major impact. Confucianism impacted China and Japan culturally and religiously. In China,
India became the jewel in the crown of the British Empire. I think that if America had not achieved independence then the spotlight would not have been switched to India at all as brightly and so the jewel in the crown would have
Though they had some different qualities, Classical China and India were very similar. The complexities of both India and China’s social hierarchy systems were very different. However their religious views and ideas were similar, and they both began to decline but were able to recover and maintain stability.
In conclusion, the French and Indian War had many effects on the Britain-colonial relationship. The war led to England growing stronger as a leader and having more domination, but also contributed to American colonists losing the bondage between them and England. The war also caused suggestions of American independence to multiply and essentially changed the mindset of both Britain and the
Confucianism has been a part of Chinese culture for over a thousand years. Many who have studied Confucianism would say that it is not a religion. It is better described as a philosophy or moral code. The philosophy of Confucianism comes mainly from the speeches and writings of Confucius, a great Chinese thinker and educator. He believed that Humanity, Rite, Neutrality, Virtue, Education, and Cultivation were the basis of human behavior. In addition, Confucius felt that this philosophy was the best way for people to behave and interact with others in society.
The British starved the indians to death literally, so many people were dieing because they got no food. The British stole all of the India’s government away from them and changed it. The British were tearing down their forests and using it to plant cash crops/ crops. They also made it to where they stopped the spreading of new languages and their cultures. Although the British had power their rule
The British made them grow cash crops was because they saw the cash crops was not always demand for less, so the prices paid for these could be very low. This made the Indians not have food to survive or money because no one would buy the cash crop products. The food the Indians grew(rice and wheat)was taken away from them and sent over sea to England where people had the money to buy the food. The Indians Sicail had a negative impact because it increased the frequency and severity of faines and not letting everyone learn English. Dr. Lalvani claims that “Health and life expectancy both improved dramatically, particularly because malaria was tackled and vaccination against smallpox introduced”(paragraph 21).
Would you like if someone came into your house and start changing everything you do? Well, that is what the British did to India but on a bigger scale. The British thought that Indian had a lot of resources, which it did it was called “Jewel in the crown.” So, they came in and started changing their political, economic, and social ways of life. There were some positives and some negative to what happens when the British control India. This was a negative effect of India because they had no responsibility in their government, forced to grow cash crops, and learning the English language. Although I believe it was negative, some people believe it was a positive effect on India.
Confucian culture, also known as Confucianism, was founded by Confucius during the Spring and Autumn Period, which was developed gradually after the Han Dynasty with benevolence as the core. Since the Han Dynasty, Confucianism was the official ideology and the basis of mainstream ideology in the vast majority of historical periods of China, and it also influenced many southeast Asian countries in history. After a variety of shocks, Confucianism was still the core values of China's social public, and represented the Chinese culture and national tradition in the world (Littlejohn, 2010). In the contemporary society, the Confucian culture in China increasingly spread, at the
China and Japan had similar but different experiences with the Western civilization. China and Japan reacted differently to the Western nations and it was China’s reactions to the West that would break the Chinese’s isolation leaving their traditions behind. The Industrial trade in Europe and the United States had created a gap between Asia and the West, This left china and Japan far behind technologically and they were not able to stand up against the western nations and although at different times China and Japan both ended up having to sign unequal treaties, and to open their ports for merchants.

A Yiddish Proverb states, ?Everyone is kneaded out of the same dough, but not baked in the same oven? and could easily be used to describe three religions of this world. Both Japan and China lie in the East of Asia. To a certain extent,Japan and China own similar culture background, in the Confucian Cultural Circle. But when we look back into the modern history development, Japan and China made quite different decisions when facing the western countries’ aggression. China suffered the invasion in 1840 after the first Sino-British War. Japan was in a similar situation in the black boat incident in 1853, the Opium War made the West began to pay attention to East Asia. From then on, Japan began to face the western culture. The reactions, as well as the result of Japan and China were quite disparate. This article wants to discuss what lead to the difference.
The Ancient Chinese philosophy and politics have impacted modern China in a huge way. It was during the Warring States period where countless states within China fought a civil war that the major philosophies such as Confucianism, Legalism, and Daoism took place.
Religion is unique in several different ways, but each religion has the same core values and guidelines that intertwine with one another. However, I do agree Confucius and Buddha are indeed incredibly comparable. Confucius and Buddha encouraged, believed, and aspired deeply to share their teachings. Although, Confucius struggled more than Buddha to spread his teachings, Confucius’ main goal of humanity still thrives in China’s civilization. On the other hand, Buddha’s message of trying to end suffering and preserve humanity was spread quickly and used effectively.
Confucianism is a time enduring philosophy that has stood up to invading clans, war, resentment, enforcement and infringement of new philosophies, and eventually, revival. For almost 80 years, up until the late 1970’s, Confucianism and its ideas and values have been all but wiped away from China. Though effort was made to remove Confucianism for good from China by the Communist leader Mao Zedong in 1949, the ideas and values were so deeply embedded into peoples mind and the culture that even suppression could not keep it out of the culture and practices. The main factor that has brought Confucianism back into the limelight in China and other East Asian countries is the recent
