The Importance Of A College Education

During their high school career, students may begin to question the importance of a college education. They might find themselves asking, “Why is it important to go to college?” The answer is that, more than ever, attending college provides opportunities for graduates which are not as widespread to those who have not received a higher education.

I know the importance of obtaining a college education, but more exciting to me were the on the job opportunities to improve processes within the department. The flexibility of my team lead position at Mass. Eye & Ear was what really helped me thrive; I saw a problem, I came up with a solution and produced results. I understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making. I created flow charts for team members to demonstrate their daily tasks effectively. I created e-mail templates and documents for the team to streamline their processes. I used a range of tools such as Microsoft Word and Excel to execute my ideas.

Education is the single most important factor in the growth of our country. Specifically, higher education paves a future and provides opportunity for students that attend college and gives them a shot at a career. 50 years ago, college was strictly for the elite, high class Americans. Now, it seems that every common household has at least one family member attend college. But with the increasing drop out rate today, students seem less interested in learning at college and their priorities change from their original goal of graduating. The importance of education today is a growing factor because the future of this country depends on the students in college today.

High school seniors have many choices to make. One important choice is whether or not to go to college. Harvard as the first college founded in 1636. At this point only 4% of young people attended college (Anderberg, Jeremy. “Is College for Everyone?). As of 2013 there are about 14 million students enrolled in a 4 year institutions, and that number is expected to jump to around 20 million in the next few years (Anderberg, Jeremy. “Is College for Everyone?). College is hard and is not for everybody, but is it worth it? A college education is worth it in many ways it will lead you to success, way easier than a high school diploma. A college education gets you better financial success, gives you a much healthier life and greater success, and college graduates have more and better employment opportunities.

To obtain a well-paying job, a person must seek a higher education by graduating from a college or university. Their education will give them the knowledge they need to obtain a career in their desired field. A college education is very expensive and the cost of tuition continues to rise. There is student fees, room and board, traveling expenses, meal plans, and books and supplies. These fees start adding up quickly. There are many other additional expenses a student must pay to attend college besides tuition. There is also not enough government assistance and scholarships for each student that attends college. This forces many students to take out loans and end up in debt. The amount of debt for a college education is rapidly increasing. Student loans become a high financial burden with most loans totaling near $30,000 by the time a person graduates. Most students do not have a full understanding of the financial burden they place on themselves to where it is hard to obtain prosperity after graduation.

College education is primarily a successful future. Right now college is a benefit to one's upcoming life. One will face difficult trials in life and college is the main reason how problems can be fixed. Earning a college degree is a major step that it's becoming the American dream. Go to college, get a job, buy a house, and raise a family. It may not always be that simple, but it all starts with a college education. A college education is valuable because one can maintain a job, earn more money and is more likely to gain social skills.

Education is now seen as a necessity to life. The pressure of young adults going to college and/or achieving higher levels of education has been a mandatory peg on the social totem pole. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, college enrollment has had an increase,“of about 5.1 million since fall 2000.” (NCES) Although many Americans disagree that college should not be a required standard, it is undeniably the best option for young adults.Opportunities, economic stability, and self-discovery can all be unlocked when attending college. It is apart of the academic journey that is accredited to young adults who choose the college route.

Barack Obama once said “that no matter what you do with your life I guarantee you'll need education to do it”. He might have said that because he wants kids to go to college and have a great future and just enjoy their life. A college education is valuable because people can meet and make new friends. People can receive a job and they can earn more money. If students start going to college and going to school they will most likely get a new job, most likely meet new people and make new friends, and earn more money by having a good job.

I feel that getting a good college education is important because it will make sure you have a successful life after that if you only graduate from high school.It also makes you challenge yourself and it could inspire you.Getting a higher education will give you more choices in life than if you only went to high school and even though you’ll have to pay off your student loan debt, you’ll make more money than if you only graduate from high school.You will also discover new passions and build more knowledge, skills, and brainpower and going to college can also help you live a healthier and happier life.

Michael Forbes, an American Entrepreneur once declared, “ Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one.” To reiterate, education gives you more opportunities in which you learn and benefit from it. College is like a stairway that gives you more opportunities after every step. These opportunities help define who you are as a person. College education has many values that no other type of education could offer. High school students should be taught to acknowledge the major benefits from attending college.
