Throughout the years research centers have been using animals as a base of study. They have genetically modified conditions for animals in order to gain knowledge for treatments or human diseases. Animal experimentation is the use of non-human animals in experiments that are controlled by variables that can affect the animals biologically. The animals are used to test makeup products, drug products, or curiosity-driven experimentation. These are only a couple of areas where animals are used for the personal gain of another species. Throughout the years more people have argued about animal experimentation being ethical. The reason why it has become such a big issue is because of how social media has grown throughout the years now people can search what really happens to animals who are experimented on.The real question is whether animal experimentation is necessary. Depending on people's beliefs some may say that it is necessary for the advancement of the human race, but others may say it is not necessary need because of other factors that contribute into it and for me personally animal experimentation is not a necessary option we have to take because of the endless possibilities of other things. , Animal experimentation is not necessary because of how expensive it is.Animal experimentation is a lot of money because the scientist have to pay to get the animals from their natural habitats to a laboratory. Also animal experimentation can take up to 4 or 5 years for the
“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated” (Mahatma Gandhi). Scientists have been using animals for biomedical research for centuries. They provide a source to get information scientists can not get without harming humans. A lot of debate is spread about whether it is good or bad. Animal experimentation is a controversial topic because it is helpful to humans, but it is also cruel and inhumane.
For years, scientists have experimented with animals to study how diseases and disabilities affect them. Take neurologist Thomas Gennarelli for example. Dr. Thomas Gennarelli used primates as test subjects. For a little bit over 15 years, he bashed primates to imitate head injuries in human beings. He believed the results of his experiments would be beneficial in the future on how we should treat head injuries. The team that worked for him recorded the data via videotapes. Unfortunately, as much as he tried, Thomas Gennarelli flopped and could not create duplicate head injuries. In 1984, participants of the Animal Liberation Front broke into the University of Pennsylvania’s Medical school and swindled the tapes that’s withheld the data from the experiments. They edited the tapes to show the most gruesome abuses of the primates and submitted it to People for Ethical Treatments of Animals. Peta then submitted it to Congress and the media. Participants of these experiments claimed they appease the primates with drugs, so they would feel not pain. The videotapes told a different story. Just before the hammer smashed their heads, the primates tried to escape. The researchers used foul language and performed unsanitary procedures upon the primates. They mocked and chuckled at attentive primates with broken arms. The National Institutes of Health analyzed the videotapes. Thomas Gennarelli was condemned of 9 charges such as unacceptable veterinary care and lack of guidance for the
Animal experimentation has been a commonly debated subject for many years, is it cruelty or science? Millions of animals die each year from animal testing. This is because of harsh ways animals are treated like by their experimenters. Animals should be free of the cruelty scientists expose them to. They have just as much sentient as humans do. Millions of animals a year are subject to being imprisoned and having terrible procedures done.
For thousands of years animals have been used as research subjects, but with the advancement of science and society, animal experimentation has morphed into a controversial bioethics topic. Animal experimentation is the use of animals in scientific research. This experimentation ranges from testing pharmaceuticals on rats to measuring the elasticity of tendons in rabbits to implanting mechanical devices in calves. And while the FDA has dozens of guidelines to keep animal testing as ethical as possible, a strong opposition to animal research (particularly mammalian research) still exists.
Animals suffer just as people do. In 2009 animal experimentation was the cause of over 1.13 million animals, excluding small rodents, suffering in U.S. Laboratories (U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service). Animal experimentation is unethical, unnecessary and expensive; alternative methods of testing should be utilized.
). By the time religious leaders lifted these prohibitions, it was already too late—vivisection had already been ingrained in medical and educational institutions.
Animals make good research subjects for a variety of reasons. Animals are biologically similar to humans. They are susceptible to many of the same health problems, and they have short life cycles so they can easily be studied throughout their whole life span or across or several generations. Animals are used in research to develop drugs and medical procedures to treat diseases. Scientists may discover such drugs and procedures using alternative research methods that do not involve animals. The safety within products is tested on animals before it is on
Animal Experimentation has been going on since the early 1900’s and hasn’t taken a break since then. Every day 273,972 animals die from animal experimentation that includes dogs, monkeys, cats, cow, rats, fish, mice, lambs, and birds. Animal Experimentation should be abolished because it leads to death or severe illnesses and Animals become violent and start to self-harm themselves. Would you want to live in a world where you were experimented on everyday?
Although some people argue that animal testing has played a vital role in medical industries however, it has been proven that the majority of animal experimentation has no significant impact or breakthrough that could be beneficial to humans. This makes us question the validity of these experiments, and if they truly have any benefits. This idea is supported by Dr. Bross , the director of biostatistics at the Roswell Institute for Cancer Research who states that the conflicting animal results that have been found have never produced a single advance either in preventing or in curing cancer (as cited in Carlson, 2012, p. 398). The effort done by the scientists and doctors who care about people's health and work hard to provide safety for them
Animal experimentation is not necessary anymore due to modern day technology. New technology is built all the time now. Some of that technology can be used to end experimenting. What is the point of experimenting on animals if it doesn’t always apply to humans? The testing is cruel. If you love animals, then take a stand. Stop animal
Animal Experimentation for scientific research is a contentious issues and the subject of much debate. On one hand it is considered morally wrong to use animal solely for human benefit. On the other hand, removing animals, completely from the lab would impede any understanding of health, disease and consequently affect the development of new and vital treatments. Two essential questions needed to be asked is does it work and is it ethical?
Experimentation and testing on non-humans such as animals has been happening in the world for an extremely long time. There are many people in the world that agree and disagree with these actions. The animals used for testing are not treated as living creatures but as test subjects for a science experiment. Animal experimentation means the using of animals for research on a purpose of determining if it’s a safe drug or procedure to be used on humans. “Just under two-thirds of Americans (62%) believe that medical testing on animals is morally acceptable, while 32% feel it is morally wrong. This finding is not completely surprising -- medical testing can include researching cures for deadly diseases such as AIDS and cancer, and many people
“The British did not only accept animal experimentation but they also increased the use of genetically modified mice in carrying out such tests. On July 27th official statistics showed that, for the first time, the use of genetically-modified animals has outstripped that of conventional creatures and hardly anyone flinched knowing that” (Britain: Tweaking the Experiments; Animal Testing). Imagine the world without the essential vaccines that are used to promote healthy humans, but that is the world without animal experimentations. The lack of animal experimentations is the lack of vaccines which would cause many illnesses that would also lead to losing countless numbers of lives. In addition, society has been more dependable upon
Animal testing has long played a part in the science of testing, and it still plays a very important role in the medical world. Testing on animals in order to create a cure for AIDS is one thing, but testing on animals for human vanity is another. Animal testing is used to test the safety of a product. It has kept some very unsafe substances out of the cosmetic world. However, in this day in age, animal testing is not the only way to test the safety of a product. Animal testing in cosmetics has decreased over the years. However, it is still used by many companies in America. Animal testing is not only cruel, but it is also unnecessary in today’s advanced scientific world.
Animal experimentation by scientists can be cruel and unjust, but at the same time it can provide long term benefits for humanity. Animals used in research and experiments have been going on for 2,000 years and keep is going strong. It is a widely debated about topic all over the world. Some say it is inhuman while others say it’s for the good of human kind. There are many different reasons why people perform experiments and why others total disagree with it.
