College is a big milestone for me. There were many options for me as I graduated high school, but I chose to attend a four-year college because I believed that that would be the best option for me. Going into college I have many thoughts, goals, and expectations. My expectations for college have defiantly changed over the last few weeks. In four years i hope to have gained a better education and will be prepared to take on the world of adulthood. There were many options for me as I graduated high school, but I chose to attend a four-year college because I believed that that would be the best option for me. One of the big factors that contributed to my decision on a four-year college was getting the chance to move away from home and be on my own. I think that moving away has been such a good thing for me and has really helped me break out of my comfort zone. By attending The University of Tennessee at Martin, it has given me the opportunity to get super involved around campus and live up to the full college experience.
Going into college I have many thoughts, goals, and expectations. One big goal I hope to accomplish is to find a way to balance my academics, social life, and physical health all in a productive way. My number one priority in college is my grades. I have quickly learned that college is very different from high school for many reasons; for example, in college, your professors will not remind you of due dates coming up or when your next test is going to be. Therefore it is up to myself/me to stay on top of all my assignments. Grades in college are certainly not given out easily and you have to work hard for the grade you want. With that being said, I have to make sure that I am studying thoroughly for all my classes. On another note, you can’t go through college alone. You need to have a solid group of friends to be supportive of you, help you study, and to just be there for you when you are bored. In my opinion, Having friends is a big part of succeeding in college. To accomplish part of this goal, I need to make sure that I am making time for my friends and other activities other than studying. The last part of my goal is to maintain a physically healthy lifestyle. If I can balance all three
I don’t think the reality of college hit me until this year. It always seemed like an abstract idea rather than a reality but a reality it is. I know college isn’t necessary for a successful life, my dad has done just fine for example. But at the end of the day, college represents something more for me, something extra. The reason I want to be in college is simple, I want to better myself, dive deeper into learning and strive to exceed the expectations set out for me.
College was a changing point for many people you either went to college, worked or did what you wanted to do. I chose to go to college like most kids to get a degree in something you love or want to do. I want to major in business I always liked business and the idea of it and the fact you could go many ways with it was interesting. I did not know how college was gonna start for me because in high school, I did not do that great and teachers did not think I would have the best time in college. There are many things college has to offer for the student attending there and they are great to take advantage of.
Most college students will have a plan to get ready for college. There are several steps in getting ready for college. For example, you will have to rank your priorities, focus on getting to the finish line and lastly research the departments that they have. A case in point is some high school seniors may not have their mind right on an institute. College for some people may be just to get away from their family, or it might be to make something out of themselves. Going to college can be a breeze for some human beings, but others it can be a wakeup call. Illustrating all these steps for choosing your right career college path can have you going crazy, but it will be all worth it at the end of the journey.

To become successful, we have to learn for ourselves. By we I mean college students and students that about to enter college. College is a new environment in which we are given a form of self responsibility that we have never experienced before. Many parents realize this, but not every parent wants to give their child the freedom that comes along with college. Parents may think they are doing a great job by watching their kids every move, solving their problems for them, and making sure their grades are where they need to be, but their not. “Helicopter parents” are correlated with their kids having poor mental health which is leading to depression, fear of failure, and failure to cope with the new situations they are encountering every day. Parent’s need to learn to let go of their kids and let them face the new amenities of college on their own.

College education has many values that no other type of education could offer. High school students should be taught to acknowledge the major benefits from attending college.

There are a handful of achievements one unlocks during their quest through life, whether it be starting a new job, getting married, or having a child. One of the most significant of them is graduating from college. When an individual walks across the stage and is handed the key to life, they are able to open the doors of many opportunities. Not only do students leave college with an education, but with other hidden skills. For instance, college graduates become more employable individuals, are exposed to a diverse environment, and are subjected to extra support and guidance from people who will help them achieve their goals. Leaving college with more than one went for, in itself, is a reason a college education is worth it.

The higher education system should be closing the gap between the rich and the poor. But the college economics are driving them further apart. In the United States, people like to view higher education as a great equalizer for social mobility of people. But selective colleges have long been accused of perpetuating race and class division, rather than blurring them. A study by Stanford’s Caroline Hoxby and Harvard’s Christopher Avery lent further practical evidence to the accusation, finding out that high-achieving low-income students do not have access to selective school and most of the time do not apply to top tier colleges knowing they won’t get in.
Education was never a priority or something I placed much value in personally. However, within the past few years, my perspective has shifted from one of negativity and doubt to a genuine desire to learn, and embrace the opportunity to pursue an undergraduate degree. Being homeschooled from kindergarten to graduation I was not exposed to a formal classroom setting, and felt robbed of the experience of learning with others and knowing where I stood on an intellectual level with my peers. I also struggled throughout all of school, with an attitude of doubt, and a paralyzing fear of failure. Because I was never interested in school, and felt like I was stupid--especially in comparison to my older siblings and friends who excelled intellectually--I truly believed that I would never pursue a college education; I had made up my mind that I could not succeed in a classroom.
In the United States there is currently much emphasis put on completing a four year degree in
“The cost of college education to day is the so high that many young people are giving up their dream of going to college while many others are graduating deeply in a debit” (Bernie Sanders). Students do not have the time, energy, or funds to waste on a degree, that does not prepare them with skills they will need to have acquired. College education should be job training, seen through public perception, and job security.
