Have you ever wanted to make a difference? If you could change the world, would you do it? You can start by accomplishing small tasks that can benefit others through community service. Community service is an act of kindness where you help out a company or organization without getting paid. To many, not getting paid for doing work is unfair, but supporting and aiding these organizations can impact a civilization tremendously. These signs of affection and care, can lead to a better environment for those who have either starved, became ill, or were living in poverty.
I performed my community service at Summit Academy High School, a charter school that is all about change, and making a difference in the world. The online teacher, Mrs. Farkas, has been struggling to keep up with her students, and most of them are or were behind on their classes. I chose to tutor one of her students in their Health class, in hopes that Farkas can feel substantially better. After many weeks of studying and reviewing, the student finished her class, and passed with a decent grade. Mrs. Farkas was very grateful, and could focus on her other students that were ready to take their tests. This experience made me strive to support not just students, but sports teams as well.

The Winter Guard practices and performs on a specially made tarp, that is painted or printed to match their show. For 2015-2016, they had a black tarp, but wanted to paint a red heart on it for their show "I'm Sorry," and so I stepped in to help them. Only a few showed up to cooperate, but we grabbed our brushes, and went straight to work. We had finished a few hours later, satisfied with our results, and left the floor to dry overnight. If none of us would have contributed our time to help, it would've taken a long time to finish the
I have been a part of different activities for my community service. I have helped the TLC preschool afterschool with cleaning tables and toys once all the children have gone home. I have also been to the shelly baird school where they disabled kids go for schooling and helped out there with the students doing their work and played games .I am currently in “Dude Be Nice Club” and recently we participated in project night night where we would gather donated security blankets a book or stuffed animal and deliver them to children who have very little in homeless shelters. My community service in this case helped me realize that there are people out there who need some encouragement to help them get back on their feet and realize in life that
Furthermore, I have also done quite a few acts of service to my town and school even though I realize that it is not necessary for me to do so, I believe that by serving others without a reward is the best way to become a better person and leader. As a matter a fact I am a member of Frisco’s Teens4Green and have volunteered to play “Rufus the Recycling Dog” at local elementary schools, which was a very enjoyable and rewarding experience. In addition, with my early release periods, rather than go home early most days, I choose to go assist some teachers if needed. By assisting them I can learn more about following in one’s footsteps to achieve a certain goal and how to aid another in a time of need. Since then, I knew that I had to serve my school in different ways rather than just teachers. I wanted to demonstrate to my class that I could be a worthy asset, and that I was there for them in wanting to make our senior year extravagant, yet
What does community service means to me? Well, to me community service mean helping your community become a better place. When you do things for your neighborhood, it makes you feel like a better person. There are all sorts of activities you can do in your community. You can work with children at school, work with the elderly, or help people that are less fortunate and make their day very special. Community Service is very important because it gives you a chance to bond with the people in your neighborhood. It will also give you a chance to give back to your community , you’ll learn a lot from your experience, and you’ll make a difference in someone’s life. I recommend a lot of people to go out and make a difference.
What does community service mean? Community service, to me, means bettering the community with volunteering at local places, business, or helping the people themselves. Community services is very important due to most of the things in a community such as parks, food banks, etc. being ran/used by the community.
Community service, as I have come to learn, is all about taking the initiative to help someone in need, no matter their situation. As the verse Matthew 25:35 says above, it is our job to share God’s love through serving those who are hurting right in front of us. These people are strangers, we may not know them, but that does not mean they should not be helped. Over the course of my life I have had the opportunity to participate in a multitude of service projects, but the one I am most passionate about is the Harvesters Community Food Network.
Throughout the past four years of high school, I have done my best to try and stay actively involved in the community. I have been presented with some amazing volunteer opportunities such as Huron Safety Town, STAR Leadership Camp, American Red Cross, and Huron High School Girl’s Basketball Biddy Program. I spent over 24 hours at Huron Safety Town where I was able to help young students, mainly those going into Kindergarten, learn how to stay safe while on the road. I was also able to spend over 24 hours at STAR Leadership Camp where I was a councilor to those going into the sixth grade. I made sure that each student understood the importance of being a leader in today's society and how important they are to Huron’s community. Through National Honor Society I have been able to maintain in constant contact, approximately 10 hours, with the American Red Cross by volunteering in monthly blood drives. I have also dedicated 16 hours of my time to those young girls interested in someday being a varsity basketball player through the Biddy Basketball Program.
Over the course of my academic career, I have volunteered with Key Club at my school and other various places, such as the Poe Center for Health Education and WakeMed Health and Hospitals. Involvement with each organization has had a tremendous impact on my character. Often, while at the Poe Center, I had hours alone to create educational tools, file papers, and enter data into spreadsheets which taught me responsibility and integrity. I always strived for the best when I completed tasks at the Poe Center and at WakeMed. Each organization has been impacted through my volunteer services. With Key Club, we had monthly trips to the senior home. Each time I visited the senior home, the elder’s faces would light up because many of them did not have
The summer before high school, I decided it was time to get involved in the community. A close family friend who attended my church offered a volunteer position with her organization called Clothes to You that supplies low-income families with free attire. The non-profit organization resonated closely with me as my tribe, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, suffers from severe financial hardships, and realizing how life changing an organization such as this could be I promptly accepted her offer. On designated days we drove the mobile van to predetermined locations and transformed the desolate parking lot to a bustling shopping center. People of all ages filled the aisles and I assisted shoppers searching for outfits as varied as interview
I knew what helping the community looked like especially since I had to do community service to graduate high school. Most of my community service house came from going on a mission trip with my church to a different state. When on this trip we would build a church for a week, but the people that went on this trip were all people that I knew. The only people I didn’t know were the people that we would stay with. Since I have been on these trips since I was about eight, I have been able to take on more responsibilities and become more of a leader on the job site to the younger kids. This has transitioned over to my sports and classroom here at Bridgewater. I have been able to become a better leader both on and off the field in sports and also to organize study sessions for
Before high school, community service never crossed my mind at any point during my life. Going to public school, I knew that nobody cared about service and since I didn’t have to, I never did anything for my town. Thirteen year-old me had only 3 things on my mind:
One way I have helped my community was I helped joined my friends dad on a bike tour, it was part of church. We had made sandwiches the night before, so in the morning we would have been ready to leave. At the time, My friend and I as well as others who lived in the same building were up early around 9am to 10am, to pack up the sandwiches and water bottles into the duffle bag. we then rode our bikes in a group of five people. We went as far as to balboa park and back. We fed as many homeless people as we could have. With a few homeless people that were sleeping, we will gently wake them up or sometimes we would just leave the food beside them and continued on our journey. I was inspired to act upon this because to me, it instantly felt good
In Maryland, 75 hours of community service are required for students to graduate. Getting in the way of many after school activities, students should not be required to have community service hours to get a diploma.
From this experience volunteering I will hopefully be able to continue tutoring or helping students who are struggling in school. I am going to remember this experience when I am a teacher and be able to pay more attention to the students who are struggling and try my hardest to make sure that no one falls too far behind. I will also make sure that all my students get the help that they need in order to succeed. Overall this experience has taught me a lot and enlightened me with new perspectives from where people come from and their home
There are multiple ways people work together to make a difference. People can help the homeless or work in the military. One specific way people can work together is through community service.
Community service can be defined as voluntary work intended to help people in a particular are. Community service is normally unpaid work, intended to be of social use, or as a way of not sending an individual to jail or prison, or not paying a ticket. Community service is done normally around a particular area in which you reside in. In a way this can be beneficial to the community, because it is a way for individuals to clean up their own neighborhoods, because who does not want their neighborhoods to look appealing.
